This Will Never Be A Euro-Socialist Country
The American Thinker ^ | August 29, 2009 | Steve McCann

Posted on 08/29/2009 3:00:31 AM PDT by Scanian

The Obama Administration, the Democrats in Congress and the media are shocked and surprised by the depth of reaction to the proposed overhaul of the health care system and the tax and spend policies of this government. They had assumed that since the President had garnered over 69 million votes in the past election (53% of the votes cast), the American people had given him and his party a free hand to transform the country. Never mind that the votes Mr. Obama received only accounted for 30% of the voting age population in the country and that many voted for him thinking he was the moderate he proclaimed to be during his campaign for President.

It is apparent that Mr. Obama, his advisors, the leaders of the Democratic Party and the so-called intellectuals on the left appear to have little or no understanding of why the Euro-socialist utopia they envision will never be accepted by the American people. Had these elites gotten beyond their own sense of superiority they would have understood that the basic nature of the American society is unlike that of any nation in the world.

Throughout the history of mankind strong centralized governments have dominated those societies whose make up was primarily of a single ethnic group and who had little or no history of popular uprisings (e.g. Russia, China, various Arab countries). So too for modern day Marxism or socialism, those nations in today's world that live under various manifestations of socialism are similarly formulated. A docile and willing public is essential for the acceptance of an authoritarian government.

In 1782 a French immigrant to the United States, Michel Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur in his notable essays: "Letters from an American Farmer" wrote of his newly adopted country:

What then is the American, this new man? He is either a European or the descendant of a European, hence that strange mixture of blood, which you will find in no other country...Here individuals of all nations are melted into a new race of men, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world.

The population of the country has increased nearly a hundred fold (3.9 million to 307 million) since those words were first written 227 years ago. The "new race of men" now includes those from all corners of the world and their labor and posterity has in fact caused great changes, for the better, in the world. It has become a source of pride in American families to trace their ancestry and celebrate the courage and determination of their forefathers; whether they came on the Mayflower, by steerage to Ellis Island or suffered and persevered through forced servitude.

These pioneers injected into a uniquely American character a fierce desire to be independent, free and the final arbiter of one's success or failure. There resides deep within the soul of this country a deep mistrust of a powerful central government which stems from the firsthand experience of these immigrants from whom virtually all Americans today descend.

Over the past sixty years as the United States became the wealthiest and most powerful country on the face of the earth another trait unique to the American people came to the fore: a genuine sense of generosity and fair play. All were willing to accept the notion that the individual (and the government to a much less degree) should help those in need and give the downtrodden a leg up. Unfortunately this characteristic has been exploited by the left who desire to transform the country into a socialist utopia (governed by them, of course). The stratagem used was to foster guilt for one's success, substitute government for individual charity and declare as rights those things that only government could insure. As long as the future of the nation did not appear to be in real jeopardy and it could, on the surface, afford this spending, many simply chose to drop out of active participation in governance while others, in smaller numbers, chose to accept the largess.

Great thoughts if we can hold off the socialists before much more real damage is inflicted.

“This Will Never Be A Euro-Socialist Country”

I don’t understand this bizarre ‘confidence’.

The founders were not nearly as confident as many are today.

I don’t know how you can look over the past ten years and make this statement.

This kind of pride leads to denial and passivity—we’re too ‘big’, too ‘smart’, etc. Bunk!

We can become a leftist country. We are presently in the struggle of our lives to maintain freedom in this country.

This is a dangerous premise and ultimately serves those working to enslave us all.

“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.” - Johann Wolfgang Goethe

“A new race of man”

Romantic nonsense. The ideas that form the laws that govern us is the ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US AND ANY OPRESSED HUMAN ON PLANET EARTH.

Reckless pride—stop it! We have enough to contend with already.

We can fall. In fact, we’re falling right now!

“A Republic, if you can keep it.” - Benjamin Franklin

They had assumed that since the President had garnered over 69 million votes in the past election (53% of the votes cast), the American people had given him and his party a free hand to transform the country.

Indeed, the voters did give Obama a free hand in the Stimulus Bill! It was passed quickly, without even reading the large print. But given it was the failure predicted by people with ordered minds, many folks still are holding their hands out for the dollars they may not get. Some are wondering whatever happened to all the money that was paid out. Some are thinking that the financial crisis was maybe staged to embarrass the Bush Administration, and ensure a win for the Marxist Democrats (Fascist Dems?).

Some are reading the fine print and getting concerned. Some are actually thinking about how are "they" going to pay for this; you know, the rich. The Democrat base will not have to pay of course, just those people with too much money.

These, and other related questions have even alerted the apathetic to the dangers to all of us posed by the health bill. People know that 25% of all medical expenditures take place in the last year of life; they know that is a big target for cost reduction, no matter what the lawmakers say or do not say about end of life counseling. Of course, the lawmakers themselves would be exempt from such foolishness, like Ted Kennedy, for a recent example. Your grandmother or grandfather would not be exempt, of course.

Actually, Obama wants more than a Euro-Socialist America. With Saul Alinsky’s playbook in his back pocket, he’s a communist with a good helping of fascism. What he dreams of is akin to Hitler or Stalin’s fantasies, without the wars if possible. He’ll simply control Americans and turn them into sheep who follow his every dictate without question. Complete control of the media and govt.. Civilian security force, and guess who they’ll go after. Mom and Pop and Grannie, too. What’s not to like.

“...communist with a good helping of fascism.”

Much of what communists do is fascist-like. Rush Limbaugh has bitten-down on this one. These are communists who have risen to power. It’s clear as day for any American not in denial—anyone who doesn’t foolishly imagine communists faded away with the Evil Empire.

They lack saturation, for now, but they are more powerful than any time in our history.

We are in big trouble.

I know this communist thing makes a lot of people uncomfortable, so be it. Those who cannot stomach the truth about some humans share a common destiny—enslavement by other humans. We’d be wise to leave them to their sippy cups and blankies.

“This Will Never Be A Euro-Socialist Country”

You are absolutely right!

We will bypass socialism and go straight to communism.

Just as there are those who speak just to hear the sound of their voice, which they believe to be a beautiful thing, there are those who write for the same reason.

They are carried away with what they believe to be the music of their words.

McCann seems to have fallen into that trap.

Thank you, Boucheau, for pointing out so clearly that in spite of all of the lofty words, McCann really has nothing to say of value.

As you point out, our founding fathers were very concerned that the generations that would follow them would lose their freedom. Those concerns were/are documented.

The danger of the public trough was one of their greatest worries, and that certainly is the weapon of choice for Obummer, the Fascist.

It is a tribute to their wisdom that liberty has lasted as long as it has.

McCann says never.

I believe we have no longer than the elections of 2010. That is our last chance and if we don't get it right in that election, this country will be another Venezuela.

I hate to disagree with the author, but the Left has been struggling to change the nature of the American character since the early 60s. And, little by little, they have succeeded. They have grabbed hold of the Unions, MSM, Education and (increasingly) corporate and religious apparatus to re-educate the American people. They have also been trying to import people more receptive to their goals. In this respect, Teddy his a home run with his immigration law in 1965. If they pass Immigration Reform, that will be another 40M+ voters overnight—it will be game over.

I have grown up believing that we are a nation of immigrants and their descendants who came here to get away from kind of governments liberals are trying to change and remake our country's into becoming.

The liberal government run school systems have done their best to indoctrinate the desire for such a system into the last few decades' of our children while attempting to eliminate the individual.

And, it has been very successful for them. One need only look at our current entertainment, the msm now state run media and popular social causes to measure that success, all leading to obama and his rapid push to drive a stake into the heart of what we used to be. They must be stopped.

Hard-working Americans expect their government to run quietly, in the background, with little or no participation required except from those egotistical/narcissistic/greedy bums who actually WANT to hold public office. Who on Earth would want to undergo that kind of public scrutiny? Not me!

Instead, we just want to go to work and mow our lawns and send our kids to school and gripe about taxes and take a week off in the summer and complain about Christmas decorations going up before Halloween. Politics? Who needs that crap? We have politicians to handle politics.

The garbage truck comes by every Monday morning, there aren’t too many potholes, the library is open, the cops come when I call 911 and I can get my dog licensed at town hall. That is all I ever see of government and that’s all I need to see. Any other government involvement is above my pay grade and beneath my level of interest. I’ve got to go to work in the morning. I’m too busy for that crap.

That has changed now. For the first time in generations, we are actually looking at our government and seeing just how badly our own government is treating us. We look at our pay stubs and — HOLY CRAP!! — look at all those taxes they’re taking out! Tack on gasoline taxes and alcohol taxes and sales taxes and all those permit and license fees and they’re taking HALF OF WHAT I EARN!!! HEY!!

And now they want to take over my health insurance? And they want to slap a tax on the power plant that makes my electricity, with me getting the bill? And they’re giving my tax money (no wait, borrowing against my good name because they’ve already spent all my tax money) and giving the money to rich, fat-cat bankers? And Palestinians? And God knows who else? And taking control of GENERAL MOTORS??? WHAT?!!?!!

And all this is being done by Congressional “representatives” who get paid one hell of lot more than I do, with a sweet retirement plan and a doctor just down the hall, and now they’re no longer listening to what I tell them? Oh really?

What the hell is going on here?

We ignore government because we don’t need or want to get involved. Just like the Army, we let the “professionals” handle it. And look what they’ve done with the government that our Constitution gave us!

Just WHAT THE HELL is going on??

Now, for the first time in living memory, Americans are paying attention to what their “professional politicians” have been doing. And they don’t like what they see, not one damned bit. The more they look, the more corruption and mismanagement and anti-American programs and activities they see. Their curiosity has led them to fury, and beyond.

The sleeping giant has awoken. The wrath of the American voter will be terrible to behold but it is coming, as surely as the tide. The revolution has already begun even if the actual shooting hasn’t. (But it might.) Americans are now looking hard at their government, up and down the line.

All incumbent politicians of all parties are strongly urged to sit out this next term of office. And don’t even think about election fraud or cheating of any kind. The revenge of the American voter is coming. Like a tsunami. Run!

No more than three of four years ago I was called everything from stupid to a liberal Democrat or even a traitor for saying on Free Republic that this is NOT a free country. I don’t see that kind of sentiment displayed now. It seems such a short time ago that I used to hear on a very regular basis the old comment,”Well, it’s a free country ain’t it” but when I stop and think I realize I haven’t heard that even once in many years now. Only a fool could still believe that this is a free country now. I am not even sure that a free country exists on the planet. If it is ever to be one something major has to change and change soon!

>>I don’t understand this bizarre ‘confidence’.

I don’t either.... The next shoe to drop will be greehouse gases and carbon taxes - and it’s a shoe twice as big as health. Then growth will be subdued and I have no clue as to how they pay for the current deficits.

That’s when things get scary.

The Dems don’t have any programs envisioned without an element of force in it. That force is aimed at us.
