CBSs Schieffer: Ted Kennedy Was The Classic American Hero
Newsbusters ^ | 8/31/09 | Kyle Dennan

Posted on 09/01/2009 2:29:02 PM PDT by pissant

At the end of Sunday’s Face the Nation on CBS, host Bob Schieffer fondly remembered Ted Kennedy, exclaiming: "In a sense he was the classic American hero, the imperfect man who was sorely tested and yet in that testing found a way to overcome personal flaws and go on to accomplish great things."

Schieffer began his commentary by noting how Kennedy: "...crashed and crashed again during the early turns of his life, but somehow he kept on going through the sorrows and tragedies over which he had no control and the self-destructiveness over which he did. And in the final laps he won. His children loved him. His contemporaries, even those who often opposed him, admired him. And those whose causes he championed thanked him. To what else can a man aspire?"

His “great things” consisted of confiscating more and more money from productive citizens, in order to buy the votes of the unproductive — and more power for himself. All the while, he lived a rich, pampered life of power and privilege.

His “commitment to the poor” would have been “great” only if he had donated his own millions to the poor and lived the life of an average, unprivileged person. Of course, he never did that.

And that’s not even mentioning the “greatness” of opening our borders to a flood of immigrants who will take generations to assimilate and become self-sufficient in this culture — if they ever do. Or the “greatness” of his treasonous dealings with the Soviets, in an effort to take down Reagan.

Sorry Bob, Ted Kennedy killed a girl and refused to admit that he did. That’s why your American hero was never elected President of the United States. Retire Bob, your mind has quit working........

I wonder if the young Mary Jo Kopechne would agree with the state-run media’s (in this case, the bootlicker Bob Shieffer’s) characterization of Ted Kennedy as “a classic American hero”? I doubt it.

Actually His Royal Highness, Sir Rhosis of Liver, had quite an impressive naval record. Recall that he distinguished himself under enemy fire from hostile Republican forces, when as commander of the S.S. Oldsmobile, while in a dazed and semi-conscious state, he swam thousands of yards through dangerous shark-infested, riptide currents in search of lifesaving medical assistance for a drowning aide -- a feat of incredible courage, strength and endurance that nobody has managed before or since.

Teddy had "no control" over the Chappaquiddick "tragedy"? He had enough control over leaving the party with Mary Jo Kopeckne, to drive off into the water, to save himself, and leave her to drown.

He had enough control over all of that to be prosecuted for and convicted of manslaughter. But he was never charged, because he was, of course, a Kennedy. I call BS on Schieffer and his network.

Bush, Dole, McCain... As much as despise the guy, even Kerry took a splinter to his a$$ while allegedly under fire in a war zone, which is more than we can say about TK.

To me, a hero is a person who risks his own life in order to aid another person or in some cases, property. TK was anything but a hero.

Sorry, Teddy was no hero. A good lefist politician yes, hero and god, no. He was a weak and flawed man—lets hope he made peace with God before he was called home. I hope he had a good speech to give to Mary Jo. But, I believe they didn’t end up in the same place. The good thing, when he went I think he can have all the Cigars he wants.

Steyn made a fine observation the other day by comparing Profumo to Kennedy, and informing us that Profumo never acted again as a public official after his much less disgraceful turn in scandal. Kennedy, on the other hand, cravenly abandoned a woman to die, and then spent the next four decades, according to Ed Klein, collecting jokes about it.

Kennedy lived a life of luxurious wealth and privilege, never atoning in the slightest for Kopechne's demise, a William Zanzinger to the end. Even as an old man he was known to parade drunk in his boxers in front of young women his nephews dragged back to the Palm Beach mansion for sex.

Profumo spent his trailing years in soup kitchens serving the poor with his own sweat and keeping his nose clean.

Who was the greater man? The answer is obvious.

Kennedy (all of them) is/was a pompous, pampered, pickle-livered punk with a camelot fantasy and a deranged sense of self based on his willingness to give other peoples’ money to still other people (after he takes his cut) and feel himself a fine fellow for his generosity.

I wonder how many times that a real hero like Audy Murphy drove off a bridge in a drunken stupor and abandoned his helpless passenger. Kennedy was a drunk Scotch swilling piece of garbage and his time should have ended at Chappaquidick also. What a shame all these years our country had to endure this pile of goat smegma.
