Ecoute-moi, Flavius!

Le Géneral a raison. Iran is huge. Larger than Europe. It has a huge army. Let's say we take out every military installation we know of on day one with conventional smart weapons.

What goes on with their installations we don't know about? They don't have nukes? OK. But they have "Dirty Bombs" and enough missiles to hit Israel at least a few times.

We continue smart-bombing, they keep shooting one-two missiles a day at Israel. We (and the French, of course) invade. OK, we quickly have an area larger than Europe, and the mother of all insurgencies, staffed by Armageddon-Seeking Shiites for whom death is a blessing. 10 years later we would still be "mopping up." Meanwhile, back home dans la belle France, the resident worthy oriental gentlemen will dismantle and burn down everything from Toulon to the Bois de Boulogne... oo lala, quelle tragedie!

My plan, you say? A Nuke, Ground Zeroed on the Well of the 12th Imam, with a mushroom cloud that lasts for days. They want Armageddon? Give it to them with nukes, lots of them until there literally isn't a stone left upon a stone. Let Allah sort it out afterwards. Perhaps it can be the New Palestine.

There is a dirty little secret about Shiite theology every Westerner should take to heart. That is that the Shiites want the end of the world by fire. Sure, every Shiite will die. But, that way only they, the Shiites, The Good Muslims, will go straight to Paradise, "Firdous," where us infidels and bad bad Muslims (i.e., non-Shiites) will be their slaves for all eternity.

In the meantime, Allah The All Wise, has a clean (if slightly radioactive) blank slate with which he can re-build the more perfect Shiite paradise-on-Earth, Islam's answer to Disney World. Armageddon is a Shiite Win-Win!

Sounds weird to a Westerner. But it's no bullshiite.

From a military standpoint, I can’t see agreement with what you suggests.
Iran is a large country and has a much greater population than Iraq.

“The French know a thing or two about military interventions... I guess.”

As well as the US, specially about military interventions in Africa or Middle East....

“I think he’s thinking of the Maginot Line”

Well, if only the US thought about a kind of Maginot Line in the Pacific in 1941....maybe we would have shot at least a couple of Japanese Zeros....

National survival is everything. To other nations, it’s a potential issue to lodge a weak protest in the United Nations.

Rome and Vatican City are closer and will be in the targeting mechanism of Iranian missiles sooner.

Iran has been continuously working on advanced missile technology and North Korea has been also providing assistance. They are now getting very close to hitting most of Western Europe just as their development on nukes is hitting a critical stage.

Iran is already chomping at the bit to puff up and make threats. This will only make them more aggressive not less.

This being the longer range of their continental missile technology.
Their already funding Hezzbully in a big way in Lebanon with upgraded longer range missiles there.

Are they going to be less aggressive with more advanced missiles?
