Patrick Swayze has died after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze's publicist Annett Wolf says the 57-year-old "Dirty Dancing" actor died Monday with family at his side. He came forward about his illness last spring, but continued working as he underwent treatments. It was 1987 when Swayze became a star with his performance in "Dirty Dancing," a coming-of-age story set in a Catskills resort. The 1990 film "Ghost" cemented his status as a screen favorite.

Swayze played a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee through a spirit played by Whoopi Goldberg.

I think so. A friend died after a few months. Guess it really depends on how fast it advances.

“To Wong Foo”

This movie was out for a long time, but I ignored it because I thought it would be stupid. I finally watched it and LOVED it. I forgot Patrick was a dude, he was so good. God bless his family, he will be missed.

How very sad. He seemed like such a good guy. Loved ‘Dirty Dancing’, cheesy though it may have been.

Loved him in North and South (my favorite mini-series). I also loved him in Red Dawn, a great 1980s piece of Americana. So sad. RIP.

Red Dawn (Powers Boothe was also great in it) was one of my favorite all-time movies. Patrick Swayze could fight, he could dance, he was acrobatic, he stuck with the same lady, he outlasted pancreatic cancer longer than most do, and he seemed to love life. Unlike most of Hollywood (and I don’t wish them ill) he will be missed in my house.

Well we knew it was coming but still a sad day.

Guess I’ll have to have a Patrick Swayze action movie marathon this weekend.
