The suspected burglar, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, had prior convictions for breaking and entering and had just been released Saturday from a Baltimore County facility, Guglielmi said.

Released on Saturday, committing crimes again by Tuesday. Who says the criminal class has no work ethic?

That reminds me of the scene in Pulp Fiction where Bruce Willis has the choice of a variety of weapons hanging on the wall...

....or at least the target of a wrongful death civil lawsuit in front of a jury from the hood...when I lived in Maryland, the Johns Hopkins area was getting more dangerous all the time....a parent would be crazy to pay that kind of tuition to send their kid to school in an urban war zone like that.

Interestingly enough, Maryland has statues related to ‘Star Knife’ and “Nunchaku” but not Swords.

Our legal system is so compromised by democrats who LIVE to defend criminals - that we cheer this death. None of us care about the criminal, but the young student will have to deal with this emotionally - being in a liberal environment where his teachers will side with the criminal.

I wonder if it was a real WW-II souvenier samurai sword or a copy? Almost all the samurai swords in Japan were confiscated from officers at the end of the war and became souveniers for American officers.

AFAIK the shorter one was used in closer quarters, including indoors. Seppuku involved a dagger, for the doer, and the long sword for his assistant, for the decapitation.

Actually, Maryland has rather loose laws concerning protection of property and self-defense. If the samuri worded his police statement carefully enough, the cops might not do more than a cursory investigation. A guy in an apartment complex down the road from where we lived saw two guys stealing parts from his car, went down to confront them, and shot one of them after they refused to stop stealing his stuff. Nothing happened.

I remember a case years ago where some guys whose business was burglarized 2 nights in a row (with the Balto. Co. police doing nothing, as is their custom), slept in their facility the 3rd night because the entrance had been so damaged that it could not be closed and locked. One of them (a Marine vet), was awakened by the 3rd breakin (same culprits as in the other 2) and killed one of the burglars with a shotgun. The authorities actually convened a grand jury to consider prosecution of the shooter, but fortunately he was exonerated.

One day, the rear window of my car was smashed out (vandalism, not theft), and the B.C. Co. cop said he would write it up as malicious destruction, but said the sun could have done it! I asked the glass repair tech if that was possible, and he laughed, saying "that's a cop for you," and told how a bullet went in one side of his car and out the other as he was driving it (hardly an unlikely event in Bloodymore), and the cops accused him of trying to commit insurance fraud.

Baltimore is not surpassed for violence and corruption, not even by Chicago.

I have an aunt and uncle who lived in Baltimordo until the end of 2006. While living there, their lawnmower was stolen...twice! In one of the incidents, the police agent taking the report said the lawnmower probably went up somebody’s nose. The uncle was also mugged at one point. They finally decided to leave when a gang sign was tagged onto their storage pod.
