The stunning, total defeat of ACORN
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/17/09 | Byron York

Posted on 09/17/2009 7:05:45 PM PDT by thought

The ACORN vote in the House is stunning news. Just 48 hours after Republican Leader John Boehner introduced the "Defund ACORN Act," the bill -- which most Republicans thought Democrats would do anything to block -- passed by a resounding 345-75 vote. It would never have made it to a vote had not the Democratic leadership decided to allow it, and the winning total included 172 Democrats. Yes, 172 House Democrats voted to totally cut off funding for an organization that has worked for years on behalf of Democrats nationwide.

Couple that with the 83-7 Senate vote to cut off housing funds to ACORN -- a number that included 50 Democrats -- and the votes signal the complete collapse of Democratic support for ACORN. The job is not anywhere near finished -- the Senate still has to consider a total-cutoff bill, introduced just today by Sen. Mike Johanns, and a conference committee has to come up with a final bill that President Obama signs. At any step of the way, Democrats might decide to resume defending ACORN or give it federal support by other means. But as of today there are on-the-record votes of large majorities of House and Senate Democrats in favor of cutting off funds for ACORN.

Although Republicans had long fought against ACORN, it is not an exaggeration to say that none of this would have happened now without the BigGovernment undercover videos. Democrats who in the past had reflexively supported ACORN ran for cover after seeing ACORN employees encouraging tax evasion and prostitution. The BigGovernment videos mark an important moment in the development of alternative media sources, and official Washington responded before most of the establishment press did. This is truly an extraordinary series of events.

ACORN is being defeated by the people of this nation, who have had enough. It was not the main stream media, because they have not said boo about ACORN.

Unordered “Patriots Hall of Fame”. Please ping me for worthy additions who risk life, limb, and privacy to expose the left, and it’s evil “By any means necessary” push for it’s agenda:

1) Sarah Palin - endures round the clock ridicule
2) Joe the Plumber - dared to ask Obama, an Ivy League graduate, a hard question
3) Katy Abram - told Arlen Specter she doesn’t want her country destroyed and turned into the USSR
4) Kenneth Gladney - got beat up by a SEIU thug at a “Town Hall” meeting
5) James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles - uncovered ACORN corruption

Maybe Giles/O’Keefe will be Times Persons of the Year? Well, we can dream ;)

Right after Detroit wins the Super Bowl. ;~)

BINGO!! I haven’t looked at other states, but I bet it’s the same deal. I’ve contacted every politician that represents me, from US rep, senator, state governor on down the line. We should be all over this like a seagull on a shrimp!!
It’s time to stand up and fight these weasels!!!

I don’t see a line of ACORN thugs getting duck walked to the slammer.

IMO, thus far this is nothing but DIM smoke and mirrors. When there is no ACORN at all, then I will believe it.

if the dems caved this quick, I believe there is much more about acorn that we dont know and they hope it will go away and we will never know...

Exactly. Prepare for Eric Holder (Janet Reno's puppeteer) saying no comment on an ongoing investigation for years to come.

“Good ol’ A-PORN”

Oh, is that their new name now?

Are their new shirts still going to be commie red, or are they going with a whole new color palette to keep under the radar this time?

Acorn has a system. Should we?

Of course we'd have a system if we could get the government to take someone else's money to fund it.

The scandal is that the rats fund acorn with our money!

Not only do they get us to pay for it, they don't have to raise money themselves to pay for it.

I really think you should add Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to your list. I seriously worry about Beck’s safety, especially after he broke this ACORN story! :-(

Sadly, it will rise phoenix-like under a different name and still get our dough- some how, some way

I agree. ACORN and D.C. Will play *Hide The ACORN Wienie.*
Personally, I won't believe any announcement from communist congress to De fund ACORN until I personally witness over 1000K arrested and convicted of TREASON!

Re: Patriot No. 5 - I am still chuckling that this organization was brought down by some kid wearing a ridiculous fur coat and wrap-around shades. The cane was a nice touch. Does Joe Wilson make this list?

They will just reorganize with a new acronym. Communities Responding to America's Problems (CRAP), People United to Save Socialism (PUSS), Americans Working For Unity & Liberty (AWFUL). The possibilities are endless.

It’s only a partial victory but I’ll take it. At one point this organization stood to receive more money in federal largesse than some third-world countries’ GDP’s. Mind-boggling.
