Praise the lord and pass the ammunition.
During his years as a pastor my father had a gun pulled on him twice: once by an angry husband who didn’t want to see his wife baptized and once by a group of four men who came into the church during the service, grabbed a little girl as hostage and robbed the congregation of cash, credit cards and jewelery. A boy in the congregation offered himself in place of the little girl (the gunmen accepted the trade).
In the first incident my father talked the husband into laying down the rifle and leaving.
The second incident the gunmen left the church and freed the boy once they were outside. My father grew up on a farm, knew how to handle firearms, just could not resolve the whole “pastor as man of peace” with “pastor carrying a handgun” thing. In the end, congregation members who were licensed, carried during services to act as security.
More and more I think that seminaries are going to have to add a new course on firearms and how to protect your congregation.
The next church my father built included some safety and preventative features to guard against a repeat of that robbery.
Story in the Fredericksburg VA paper today about an 88 yo man who was ‘scammed’ by a driveway dude. The 88 yo was such an ‘easy mark’ that the dude returned the next day with some ‘tree buddies’ and while one keep the old guy busy, 2 others were ransacking his house.
The old guy got suspicious, went upstairs saw them in his bedroom GOT A PISTOL and ordered them out of the house.
They left and because of his description etc were captured nearby....
1 88 yo with gun VS 4 buttheads = NO CONTEST...
Evidently you are not up to snuff on gun laws in Michigan. We went Shall Issue about 7 years ago and tens of thousands of residents have recieved carry permits.
One local gun shop is running over 100 people per week through their CCW classes.
A hearty Huzzah to the Pastor
Very interesting stories.
