On Afghanistan, US military puts Obama on the spot

WASHINGTON (AFP) – By openly declaring their views on the Afghan war, US military leaders have placed President Barack Obama in a bind as he faces a fraught decision over the troubled US-led mission.

Obama has refused to quickly approve a request from his commanders for a major troop build-up in Afghanistan, insisting first on a full vetting of the current strategy.

But while a war council takes place behind closed doors at the White House, top military officers have made no secret of their view that without a vast ground force, the Afghan mission could end in failure.

"They want to make sure people know what they asked for if things go wrong," Lawrence Korb, a former assistant secretary of defense, told AFP.

As a result, if Obama chooses to change course in Afghanistan or decline a request for large numbers of troops, he will be rejecting the advice of the US military, raising the political stakes.

TRANSLATION: Our military leaders have stood up to the Community Organizer and told him to start acting like a leader, or have it fail on his watch.

White House staffers (consisting of college kids and former community organizers) freak out when they realize they have been cornered and cry to the press.

Awesome. Now all the pressure that they heaped on Bush, who couldn’t afford a failure on Afghanistan either, has landed square on Obama’s skinny shoulders.

"Present" just isn't enough when you're President.

Back to Obama's biggest problem....He can't make a decision.

Iraq was a done deal when he got in...and phase one stabilizing the economy was in the works.

His first big mistake was not ordering "DRILL" when people were putting bucks into their tanks instead of other goods.

“The White House meanwhile acknowledged some members of Obama’s team have been reading “Lessons in Disaster,” a book about flawed decision-making in the Vietnam war.”

White House ButtHeads, how about reading books on how we won WW2? Too bad Obama, et. al. are NOT too stupid to fail.

Barry campaigned on winning in Afghanistan by increasing the force and finding Osama Bin Laden. He’s so far failed on both counts.

And the man who could never make a decision as a state legislator still can’t make one as president.

“The White House meanwhile acknowledged some members of Obama’s team have been reading “Lessons in Disaster,” a book about flawed decision-making in the Vietnam war.”

Ping to Flyer per our earlier conversations on another thread.

Likely they are reading this book to learn the lessons on how the democrats and the media turned Americans against the Vietnam war by not providing a clear strategy or support for our troops in the field. They want to repeat the process and get out with the ‘backing’ of the American people. They don’t care if they sacrifice our troops in the process. The idea is to get out with ‘political’ cover.

PURE EVIL!

Agreed. They're reading "Lessons in Disaster" as a refresher; they fully intend to repeat history to satisfy their lunatic pacifist donors.

No one put that sorry wuss on the spot. He is Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. He’s supposed to be doing his job and have already discussed the issue with his Generals.

Yep and the plan is to deny support for the troops with new ROE(where they can’t shoot back, don’t have air support or sufficient troop levels) thereby raising the casualties to such a level that even conservatives, republicans and anyone else that supports the war on our enemies finally turn against the war. Bing Badda boom...job done.

It’s treasonous and cynical, but you watch..that’s is what they are planning.

For all of us with immediate family serving their country, wherever they may be, I want this SOB POTUS held accountable 100% and for you brain-dead out there, it isn’t Bush’s fault.

If, the day after Inauguration Day, every Republican president is to blame for every military death, every damned “homeless” vagrant on the streets, then Obama owns all of this lock, stock and barrel.

The picture of our guys walking forward on land they don’t want, and that doesn’t want them, is heart-breaking. Knowing that the traitor in the White House won’t let them do their job of finding and dispatching the enemy, is infuriating. I guess we’ll wait, but not patiently.

"insisting first on a full vetting of the current strategy"

Couldn't be bothered to vet any of his staff but, when it's the military and lives are on the line with every passing hour, NOW he wants a full vetting?
