Posted on 10/06/2009 11:08:24 AM PDT by vadum
President Obama announced he plans to nominate Patrick Corvington to be chief executive of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America. Big Government readers will remember that the Corporation assumed a prominent role on the infamous NEA Conference call, where the Corporations Nell Abernathy joined White House and NEA officials to nudge artists to produce works supporting the Obama Administrations legislative priorities.
Although the charity Corvington works for, Annie E. Casey Foundation of Baltimore, Maryland, has granted funding to ACORN during his tenure, it is unclear if Corvington has ties to ACORN.
Nonetheless, Corvington is part of the same cluster of organizations that provides financial and other support for ACORN which is a longtime fixture in the activist community.
Since 2001 the Annie E. Casey Foundation has pumped at least $1,705,500 into the ACORN network, according to philanthropy database information.
Of the $1,705,500, at least $850,500 was earmarked for ACORN operations in Baltimore, Maryland, home of the ACORN branch office first shown in the recent undercover videos that debuted on BigGovernment.com. Those videos show James OKeefe and Hannah Giles pretending to be a pimp and a prostitute and receiving mountains of advice on evading laws pertaining to tax evasion and prostitution (among other things).
The Annie E. Casey Foundation is a major funder of other groups on the left.
Looking at just the first letter of the alphabet, its grant recipients are labor federation AFL-CIO, abortion rights think tank Alan Guttmacher Institute, and liberal policy shop the Aspen Institute.
Although most of its grants go to groups on the political left, the foundation has funded at least one think tank on the political right. It has provided a few grants to the American Enterprise Institute.
I can’t tell you how many ways this creeps me out.
We really have to watch these slimebags and see where they go and what new organizations they join/administer.
The Anne E. Casey foundation (D and Tax Free) bankrolled the voter registration of thousands of illegal immigrants in Maryland, and in effect changed the outcome of the last two elections there. It is an ongoing criminal enterprise that should be investigated and closed down.
Another dirtbag appointed by Obama
Who is he? Why is an ACORN nutcase allowed to do anything but hard time?
Is this the guy who is going to heading up the “mandatory” volunteering that we all will be doing? /s
You beat me to it. Let’s start researching him.
Preliminary and cursory examination does not show any real ties to ACORN. His primary claim to fame is association with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, founded by the first owner and CEO of UPS.
Affiliated with the Casey Foundation, (PA Dem Senator, Bob Casey,) AND:
With a working knowledge of and personal alignment with the Casey Foundation mission to effectively meet the needs of vulnerable families and children, Patrick Corvington began the position of Senior Associate in the Leadership Development Unit in late May 2005. His background with community-based organizations underscores an understanding of and commitment to helping mission-critical grantees build their capacities around executive transition and leadership development. While Mr. Corvington works to operationalize a plan for executive transition and other capacity-building efforts within grantee organizations, he is also shaping and implementing plans to assist non-profits create a diverse and talented pipeline of new leaders, especially those of color.
A history of on-the-ground direct services to underserved individuals and migrant families as well as managing projects from conception to implementation has equipped Mr. Corvington with a wealth of skills and experiences ideally suited to his position. Just prior to joining the Foundation, he was Executive Director of Innovation Network, a nonprofit agency whose mission is to build the evaluation capacity of the nonprofit sector. Mr. Corvington has also served as a Research Associate with the Metropolitan Housing and Communities Center at The Urban Institute where he conducted housing policy research and worked to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations in Russia. Other roles have included Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; and Interim Director at the Sykesville Group Shelter Home for adjudicated youth. He also has worked as a patient advocate in a community-based HIV/AIDS clinic; traveled the east coast migrant stream as a case manager for migrant workers; and volunteered his time living and working in the infirmary of a shelter for homeless persons.
A native of Haiti, Mr. Corvington is fluent in French and French Creole, and is conversant in Spanish. He received his BA in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and earned his MA in Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University, where he received the National Minority Leadership Fellowship from the Kellogg Foundation. Mr. Corvington has been an Echoing Green selection judge twice.
I am beginning to wonder if there is really anyone dumber than the current POTUS.
Born in Haiti and raised in Africa, Corvington is also sensitive to issues of ethnic diversity in nonprofits and in philanthropy as is evidenced in his role as advisor to the American Humanics Nonprofit Workforce Coalition.
Corvington is a seasoned field researcher with extensive experience in community development, social service delivery, and evaluation. Prior to joining Innonet in 2003, he served on the research staff at the Urban Institute, where he focused on social service development and delivery in newly redeveloped public housing and worked with housing authorities to assess and develop their case management capabilities and infrastructure.
Before joining Urban, Corvington worked as a case manager in a community-based healthcare organization where he was charged with linking HIV-impacted clients with social services provided by local government agencies as well as other community-based organizations and for the Baltimore City Health Department, where he was responsible for linking the provision of public health services for clients on as well as off site.
A native of Haiti, Mr. Corvington holds a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he was a Kellogg Fellow.
I agree, I don’t think anyone from Acorn should be moved to a Government position.
On a different subject, can someone tell me why the Administration calls it ‘The Corporation’?
From BOTH bios:
Born in Haiti and raised in Africa
Mr. Corvington has also served as a Research Associate with the Metropolitan Housing and Communities Center at The Urban Institute where he conducted housing policy research and worked to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations in Russia.
Oh yeah. THIS is WONDERFUL!
Back to the pepcid. Knew I couldn’t make it through the damn day..
The Social Innovation Fund, which will be administered by the Corporation, is one of the key new initiatives of the Obama Administration.
FY2010 budget to provide $50 million in seed capital for his Social Innovation Fund, fulfilling a campaign pledge. The Fund will identify the most promising, results-oriented non-profit programs and expand their reach throughout the country.
This is a dramatically different way for the government to do business and it reflects the Presidents new governing approach — finding and scaling the best social innovations; partnering with those who are leading change in their communities; and creating a policy environment for all these innovations to thrive.
our nations most serious social problems:
Careers focused on lifting up our communities whether helping transform troubled schools or training workers for green jobs or helping low-income families access health care are not always obvious. But, at a time when our nation is facing unprecedented challenges, encouraging careers in public service and social innovation are more important than ever.
The Social Innovation Fund will build a “pipeline” of programs that have demonstrated results and are ready to spread across the country to meet community needs. Now, more than ever, we need to invest in programs that work and find innovative, effective solutions to our nations most serious challenges.

I’m going out to buy more pillow cases and tin cans to HIDE/BURY MY MONEY! I’m sick of FUNDING THIS CRAP!
The resumes of obama’s posse are get down right creepier by the hour. Literally.
Or get in on the action to get $$$ back! (/smirky sarc)
Here’s something. I’ll keep digging:
These leftists we are seeing front and center run the country wether in office or not. Now that they have Obama in power they will take it on a National program level rather than working within non profit organizations, schools and universities to promote their fellow travelers into society as “community organizers”, “experts” and “professionals.” They guard the doors of high education.
I just tried to ping you here:
but I forgot the ‘s and blew it.
Yeah, adjectives for bam and his picks are rapidly dwindling. I am sticking with just plain evil.
These are just the ones we know about... ping.
I guess Robert Creamer has a spot somewhere as well.
I’ve been working on this for about a month and it looks like there are connections between BNY Mellon Bank and Acorn.
I Think, BNY Mellon represents 4 Acorn investment funds.
There’s also a case of the vanishing backup tapes from BNY with about 4.5M Social Security numbers.
I’m also seeing connections between Annie E. Casey, BNY and Acorn.
Too busy working to dig more today but I’ll look tonight.
Thanks for the link. I’ll go check it out.
I think I’ll call then the Evil Clown posse—
Although I think there’s a hard rock band that may take offense. (Smirk)
Yeah, my handle needs to be reduced in size. When I signed up, I didn’t realize what a pain it would be. It’s been a problem in the past for others too. I do know you don’t have to use the tilde’s to ping me.

I think Obama is pure evil, but I don't think he's dumb. If his goal is to destroy our economy on purpose through debt, increasing taxes, etc and create his own army he's doing exactly the right things. When unemployment gets over 20% and you have a permanent, unemployed, violent underclass from the urban areas who are angry and hungry, who do you think will sign up for his civilian security force or whatever he calls it? He'll have millions of inner city thugs ready to jump in and do whatever their Democrat masters tell them to do so they can get their meals and a paycheck, paid for by our tax dollars. So if that is his goal, he isn't dumb, he is doing exactly what will bring about his plans.
Does everyone get it yet? This is the awful future. Corruption and they no longer care who knows it.
Mainly because they know that nobody is going to stop them.
I am about ready to tune out thinking all is lost.
If you happened to catch Glenn Beck yesterday, it’s plain to see that ostammer has a veritable army of these people at the ready. No matter how many get driven off through exposure, there are more than enough to step forward to fill the void at a moment’s notice.
We’re in serious trouble. We have to find a more effective way to beat them back, and it’s a two-prong war - them on one flank, the slimestream media on the other flank.
Audacity doesn’t quite cover it, does it.
I know all these organziations are loosely connected since we see the same players over & over, but was just wondering if there is a direct connection of this “America Forward” you mention here with this Annie Casey Foundation or the Patrick Corvington guy mentioned here. Before I email this out to anyone I just needed a clearer picture of what the connection between these groups.
And good men do nothing....
Did Haitian Patrick Gaspard hire this guy?
He’s dumb alright. To try and change the US when he knows that is not what Americans want is dumb.
Corporate Affinity Group Meets with Corporation for National and Community Service October 5, 2009
Yesterdays news about Patrick Corvingtons nomination reminded me that we hadnt posted about this yet. Last month, Washington Grantmakers Corporate Philanthropy Affinity Group had lunch with representatives from the Corporation for National and Community Service to learn more about the Obama Administrations views on corporate community investing.
Guest speakers, Gretchen Van de Veer and Daphne Doyle Benbow, provided an overview of recent legislation affecting corporate philanthropy and outlined three new initiatives: the Social Innovation Fund, the Nonprofit Capacity Building Program, and the new Billion+ Change Initiative which challenges corporations to collectively donate $1 billion in skilled volunteering and pro bono services over the next 3 years.
I had forgotten about Obama's plan to co-opt philanthopic groups and control corporate giving as well. This all just keeps getting worse and worse by the day.
These organizations (among others) are affilliated with Corporation for National and Community Service which will be headed by Patrick Covington:
Voices for National Service, ServiceNation, and America Forward
Of course, funded by our tax dollars!
Patrick Gaspard Director, White House Office of Political Affairs - Chief lobbyist for SEIU at Covington & Burling
Patrick Gaspard intentionally keeps a low profile, preferring to work behind the scenes. It makes him effective.
Patrick Gaspards brother Michael Gaspard works for The Advance Group. Michael apparently keeps a lower profile than his brother. He does not appear on lobbyist disclosures for The Advance Group in the State of New York. Nonetheless, he works there. Ms. Lewiss contacts list confirms Michael Gaspards employment there.
Tying Bertha Lewis to the Gaspard Brothers
The level of detail Bertha Lewis has for contacting Patrick Gaspard suggests a closeness between the two.
Ms. Lewis has Patrick Gaspards office number, home number, and cell phone number. Patricks information still contains the 212 area code, which suggests it has not been updated since he moved to Washington, D.C. However, only 131 of the 1,894 contacts, or 7% of the total, list home phone numbers, let alone home, office, and cell phone numbers. For perspective, only 31 of the 1,849 contacts have home, office, cell phone, and business email addresses listed. Patrick Gaspard makes that list.
Gaspards contact information also contains his private personal email address making him among the most detailed contacts on the list. Only Wade Rathke, the founder of ACORN, and a handful of others have as much personal information in Lewiss contacts list as Patrick Gaspard.
Bertha Lewis also has Michael Gaspards office number and cell phone. In addition, as noted above, Michael Gaspard works for ACORNs registered lobbying organization and with ACORNs national spokesman.
Other Administration Connections
A cursory view of Ms. Lewiss contacts lists shows a couple of other obvious administration contacts too.
It will come as no surprise that Ms. Lewis keeps up with Shaun Donovan. Mr. Donovan is now the Secretary for Housing and Urban Development. Before that, Mr. Donovan was the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). In New York City, he worked on affordable housing initiatives right up ACORNs alley. His contact information has not been updated since he left the HPD.
Then there is Karine Jean-Pierre. She originally worked for John Edwards. In fact, Ms. Lewiss contacts list still has her listed with John Edwards campaign, but also has Ms. Jean-Pierres personal and presumably still working personal email address, etc. Ms. Jean-Pierre left there to work for Congressman Anthony Weiner, then became Barack Obamas regional political director.. She is now the White House liaison for the Department of Labor. Thats a handy contact.
The web of connections from Ms. Lewiss contacts list goes straight into the White House and out the other door into the Departments of Labor and Housing and Urban Development, circling back to ACORNs lobbying operation.
With the White House trying to distance itself from ACORN, Ms. Lewiss contacts there might make it more difficult. She has clear ties to Patrick and Michael Gaspard, the Presidents fixer and the man who gets ACORN projects and money.
FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.
No..He is an idiot.
He’ll have millions of inner city thugs ready to jump in and do whatever their Democrat masters tell them to do
Paid for with our tax dollars, huh? Only if people decide to keep paying them. Also let those inner city thugs start their sh*t. They will be in for the battle of their life and they will lose.
