I doubt your insinuation that facebook users had anything significant to do with Obama being elected. The false hope of free stuff by ignorant people had more to do with that than anything else.
Being a software techies for decades, I doubt what you are saying about old folks. Even the wife uses Ubuntu as her main gaming and online machine ...
I think blogs have served us well allowing in depth discussions and information dissemination, gadgets and cute pages don’t do that ... Facts and in depth discussion does that. What do you think has stalled health care for so long.
I prefer blogs and forums like Freerville, which I have been using for a long time. For a while I thought digg might be useful, but after a few months gave up.
I prefer taking what I know and digging deep. Then telling others what I find and discussing that.

I disagree ... Promising people free stuff had more to do with the election 2008 that tweeting. Conservative voters stayed home ... My friends follow my blogging and me theirs ...
If you look at most all the Tea Party organizing sites they are blogs.

Not at all...the FReeper I was replying to said Facebook was for children who had nothing better to do. My point is that regardless of what he thought about it, our side had better learn how to use FB and other social networking sites, or we're gonna get creamed time and time again. Because social networking sites are where the younger generations are getting their news.

All you mentioned is very good for preaching to the choir. But if we're going to win over any converts, we have to go to them. And it's not just kids on FB...it's Boomers, Xers, and Generation.commers, from what I've seen.
