I follow this map every year, it usually doesn't even start up until Novemeber, they started it early this year, and it's worse than I've ever seen it, the peak is usually Jan/Feb for flu ...

Just keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in your glove compartment, swear off nail biting, nose picking, etc., for the season, and continue with life as usual.
I heard that the regular flu is more of a hit — from our doctor.
This map only shows where not how bad. I refuse to be whupped up into a frothing state. First, we cannot control it anyway, beyond washing hands and so forth. Second, the GOV would like nothing better than to ‘help us’ in a crisis; so even if we FEEL like it’s a crisis, we should NEVER let on.
If they never started this until November than how would you or the CDC ever be able to say this is devastating since you have nothing to compare it to?
I always thought Oct and Nov were worse for flu viruses. Colder weather in Dec and Jan kills more germs and bacteria
I don’t think anyone is seriously thinking there is a flu outbreak therefore we need government healthcare, nobody makes that connection in their mind, it just doesn’t fly ...
Is this any different than any other fall once school has started and kids start sharing their colds and flus and bringing them home to share with their families?

The WHO reports less than 4,000 dead this year, total, from h1n1, including all those backward countries.

I had a student who was at a summer camp back east. Swine Flu swept through, he got it, camp was closed/ quarantined. And ... so what? Nothing. He is now home, was not hospitalized or anything, lived to tell.
I tell you — the libs are trying to make it a ‘Sky is Falling’ moment. DO NOT BE USED.
So far, the only people I know who have been diagnosed with H1N1 were two step-children of a cousin, but that was back in the spring. They recovered well.

You might want to clarify that this map does not necessarily mean the flu being reported is H1N1.
They are trying to create a major crisis with the help of the media. Gee, I wonder why?
I too have heard that it is weakening. I have heard the Obama girls are getting the vaccine, then hear they are not. No matter, anything that this administration tells me to do, I will have serious reservations. Usually, the children, teens and young adults have the better immune systems to fight off infections, and it is the older people who have the weakened immune systems. Also, knowing that Obama picks the likes of Holdren as science czar and others makes me very skeptical about everything that comes out of the white house.
I still have not met anyone who has had anything but a slight flu. Where is the devastating flu?

More people die from the regular flu every year than the pig flu.
It is not the flu itself that kills you, it is the complications that can come from it.
Yes, people die from it. Heck, people die from the cold. all I am saying that this is a media and government driven pandemic if you can call it that.
I for one am not going to get a shot. I also told my daughter that besure to really think this through before she has the kids get the vaccine as well. it is her choice. I had four kids and never once did I ever have them get a flu shot.

Not a very useful map at all. And the color scheme is weird, not good, human factors-wise.
Another suggestion, take your eyes off the map for a few minutes and look about you. Are there mass absences from your local school? How about where you work? In my area neither are the case.

Our pediatrician told us last week that they are assuming all cases are swine flu at this point. A friend was told in the ER that her son has Influenza Type A but that they have been forbidden by the Feds from testing to see if the flu is the swine flu unless the patient is admitted or dead. So our friend’s son could have the swine flu, but we don’t know. The ER doctor also told the friend that her son should have the flu shot and the swine flu vaccine as soon as he’s better.
Hubby’s coworker got his flu shot a little over a week ago and now has the flu. He claims it is the swine flu, but we know no one is testing for that unless a patient is admitted to the hospital or is dead.
Son’s teammate was admitted to the hospital last week due to the flu. No word on whether it is the swine flu or not. At least 6 players missed practice on Friday due to the flu.

The map is for influenza, I didn’t see any differation between reg flu and swine flu.
Question for the professionals out there: If you had breast cancer, with surgery and chemo coming up, would you get either of the flu shots? Inquiring minds want to know!
The data coming out of CDC on the flu is useless. They don’t assign deaths as flu caused if the person with the flu died but also had an underlying health problem even though the flu pushed them into death and otherwide they would have lived fine.
They don’t test for it anymore. They test for type A and assume you have H1N1 if you test positive for the flu. They are using guesstimates based on postive testing for a different kind of flu virus and symptoms.
Flu is wide spread, but there is no telling with scientific accuracy the death rate nor the infection rate. Like the flu vaccine, the government is winging it. Medicine in the US used to be based on science.
