Russia now claims to have the #1 fighter plane in the world... SU-30- Vectored Thrust with Canards...
As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving along side of, and just below the canopy rail.
The "canards" are the small wings forward of the main wings. The smoke and contrails provide a sense of the actual flight path, sometimes in reverse direction. This video is of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian's-30MK fighter aircraft.
You will not believe what you are about to see. The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion in seconds. (full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin in less than a minute. These maneuver capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft in the world today. Take a look at the video with the sound up. This aircraft is of concern to U.S. and NATO planners. We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK; hopefully China isn't one of them...
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Note: Friends worked with advanced aircraft flight control systems and concepts for many years as an extension of stability control and means of control. Canards and vectored thrust were among many concepts examined to extend our fighter aircraft performance. Neither our current or next generation aircraft now poised for funding & production can in any way match the performance of this Russian aircraft. NOW FLYING in any near combat situation.
Somehow the bankrupt Russian aircraft industry has out produced our complex politically tainted aerospace industry with this technology marvel. Scratch any ideas of close in air-to-air combat with this aircraft in the
uh.. they can maintain them right?
Pretty impressive stuff- for an airshow. Now, let’s see it used in a supersonic engagement....
hh
Sure smokes alot...must burn a lot of oil. LOL
Pretty impressive, but what’s the range on this fighter, compared to an F-22 or F-35?
Very nice moves but about as stealthy as a brick shite house.
Raptor bait.
“Scratch any ideas of close in air-to-air combat...”
We already did. That’s why we now have over the horizon targeting systems.
Ok the obvious ?. Where is that smoke coming from? Is this just for the Demo or does this plane have the ability to emit toxins. You know like biological warfare???????
Ditto that...with all that pollution shouldn’t Al Gore or some of the other ecoweirds be jumping up and down with real concern?

Saw an F-22 demo a couple years ago. Did the same maneuvers.
I have one question: Why are we even considering shooting at our fellow communists, now that we are a fully communist nation?
The plane has been out for 10 years.
I doubt the Russians are just now caliming the #1 title.
Yes, the Chicoms have it.

Yep.
Nothing like stopping and hovering in the middle of a dogfight.
It's one of those new low eco-impact hybrid jets. ;-)
Because the Russians have been backsliding into mere organized crime. It's up to us to bring them back into the socialist line. ;-)
“Very nice moves but about as stealthy as a brick shite house.”
Well it does make a HUGE target for a S to A missle!
It’s just for the demo at the air show, so the spectators can judge the flight path more accurately.
Meanwhile Comrade 0bama has cancelled the F-22.

I imagine Iran wants to buy a bunch.

No, it's just developed by British-Leyland.

I would be willing to wager that a Raptor can do likewise....without canards if allowed to.
Yeah I was going to say it looks like it would have the radar signature comparable to a barn!
That thing’s got a zero turning radius which would be quite the advantage in a WWII style dogfight. People have been saying the dogfight is dead since the time the F4 was introduced, yet they still occur.
That just means that when you pull the switch to fire missiles the wipers come on so you have to turn on the radio to shoot down the enemy.
Unless the headlights are on then all bets are off.
Was that a low altitude flat spin recovery???

India has them.
Let's see him do all that hover, roll-over, fly-backwards crap at mach 2.
from their past performances I would estimate the range of this plane as one airshow.
And if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a wagon.
Isn’t turn RATE more important than turn radius?
“Speed is life” and all that.
Pinged for home view. Sounds like the same stuff the SU-35 can do.
Attention American and Israeli pilot, “Aim for the Canards”
This thing is still no match for the F-22.....UH OH, somebody better tell his majesty.
Of course, if probably would be hard to build a block of F-15’s with canards and thrust vectoring.
At first glance I thought I was looking at a F-111B

All very pretty. But it won’t give him one more second of life when an FA-18 Super Hornet acquires him and locks a Phoenix missile on his arse from 40 miles away.
Nope.
F-15 “Active”.
Been done over a decade ago, IIRC.
The ‘hover’ is supposed to show the power of the engines. notice it doesn’t really hover. It cannot maintain its altitude once it loses its forward momentum.
Looks strangely simular to the SU-29 Super Flanker. It probably is one with canards grafted on. on the upside it looks pretty fancy in flight, downside I’ve read it’s radar signature is about the size of Baltimore. Good luck fighting in one of those coffins.
Contrast the F-22 performance at the Paris show a year or perhaps two ago; where the plane, incredibly, did a virtual 180 degree change in attitude AND direction!!
I don't know who claimed this Russian modification was best in the world and that we didn't have anything like it, but he's ignorant!
Low speed maneuvers haven’t meant anything for 30 or 40 years. Over the horizon target acquisition, multiple target management, raw bleeping speed and stealth capabilities. Those matter.
