Alaskans await progress on Palin pipeline plan

ANCHORAGE, Alaska Sarah Palin hit the vice presidential campaign trail last year and touted what Alaska could provide for the rest of America a natural gas pipeline to help lead the country to energy independence.
When a pipeline might be built remains a giant question for Alaskans who need the project to support a vulnerable economy and for the Lower 48 states that need the gas, and a petroleum economist who spent more than 25 years in the Alaska Department of Revenue says it may never happen under Palin's plan.
The former governor's proposal used faulty accounting to reach the flawed conclusion that a pipeline owned by a third-party would be more profitable than one owned by major gas producers, who must be on board for any project to be successful, wrote Roger Marks, in his paper, "Why America May Not See Alaska Natural Gas Soon," published last month in the Journal of Economic Issues.
Palin's alternative, Marks said, discourages their participation and may even stand in the way of a more financially viable project.

Ping!
I haven’t read the AP article but let me guess. It alleges Sarah Palin screwed up somehow.
Why the lack of interest in building this pipeline among contractors? I suspect it’s because the potential supply of NG in the contiguous states would keep the price of NG too low to justify the cost of Alaskan NG transported... with shale gas becoming increasingly economical to produce— who needs Alaskan NG? They are capping new NG wells in N TX today because the demand just isn’t there.
Palin got the ball rolling on the pipeline after 30 years of it being held up due to politics and special-interests. Now it's Parnell's job to finish the job. Whether or not Parnell comes through on his end is his problem now, not Palin's.
Actually the only agreement was an agreement to talk about an agreement. You cannot drill and cross federal property with approval from congress, and the welfare queens want the tax payers to fund it.. Never going to happen.
they better stop calling this the Palin Pipeline Plan or the entire liberal/RINO establishment and fed govt will work to torpedo it ... PDS alert
Actually, shale gas tends to cost more to produce than gas from conventional wells, due to the higher expense of fracturing treatments and horizontal drilling required to extract gas from shale formations.
Alaska’s North Slope holds massive deposits of both conventional gas, as well unconventional natgas in the form of recoverable gas hydrates.

BINGO - you are correct Sir!
From the article, a good read BTW
“Critics such as Rep. Ramras see the chances of an Alaska gas pipeline erode a bit with every report of abundant shale gas from the Appalachians to Louisiana to British Columbia.” She bet the farm on a temporary spike in the NG prices. Bad bet - and $500 Million down the tube.
All the TransCanada folks have done since signing is go around and beg for more Gov’t money. The AK gas was going to go to help turn Cdn tar sands into oil for sale to the US - not bad in and of itself.
The open season will be interesting.
In the meantime, due to roadblocks at the DNR, no new drilling for gas here (Cook inlet) and possible shortages/power outages this winter...
Ya, drill baby, drill (rolls eyes)
Note to Palin boosters- plese don’t bother to point out all her good points, I’ve heard them all. See, the problem is I have to live with the mess she left behind.

Talking is about the normal outcome of political agreements. But you are correct that for anything like his to happen in AK will require a lot of agreements with the Feds and when that happens the state most likely will be screwed. Almost 70% of the Alaska’s land mass is owned by the Feds. They will dictate what, when, where, who benefits and cost if and when this dream reaches fruitation.

Eyes rolling. Ya bud, can your schilling be a little more original?
WTF do spice have to do with anything???
The Ramros quote was from the article. I would not vote for the “chicken man” in any case. Too liberal.
Were you looking for use this word? Shill? As in
A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group’s ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. The term plant is also used.
Shilling is illegal in many circumstances and in many jurisdictions[1] because of the frequently fraudulent and damaging character of their actions. However, if a shill does not place uninformed parties at a risk of loss, but merely generates “buzz”, the shill’s actions may be legal. For example, a person planted in an audience to laugh and applaud when desired (see claque), or to participate in on-stage activities as a “random member of the audience”, is a type of legal shill.
If so - bite me.
Would you like some cheese with your wine :)
WAAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH
A simple reply and I made you jump like a trained dog...how typical.
LOL
ASOC sounds like a typical whiny liberal who probably lives in Anchorage..you don’t hear REAL Alaskans whining like that..LOL
For those who may not be familiar with internal Alaska politics, here’s a real short Cliff Notes on why the main branch of the Republican party is annoyed with Palin.
She peeled the lid off of the corruption that colors the main branch of the party and is not in lockstep thrall with the commands of the oil companies.
Blaming her for the results of 30 years of inaction and blind obedience to big oil is a smokescreen to deflect the proper target of the criticism-the utter lack of leadership among both major parties here in the 907. The dems take their orders from the sierra club in DC and the pubs take their orders from BP in London, while the interestes of the people here are deflected with shiny new schools in the bush that are falling apart in 5 years. Left to their own devices, the oil companies will run the clock out here and the enviros will lcok the whole state up, while we freeze in dark and wonder why the hell it is that we are importing Citgo oil from Chavez to bush vilages and why we are going to end up using NG from Indonesia here in southcentral?
Yeah, I’m a bit frustrated with the whole system these days. Everybody is fiddling while Rome freezes. Blaming Palin for actually getting plans in motion after the stonewalling of previous administrations completly ignores the reality of the lack of leadership, and when you see what happens to those who actually attempt to exert a little leadership on the oil companies and the legislature (who approved AGIA, Palin didn’t wave her pen and make it magically happen) it’s no wonder that nobody wants to step forward.
"I thought it was a pretty shoddy reporting job, honestly," said Sen. Bill Wielechowski, D-Anchorage, among many Democrats and supporters of Barack Obama who are coming to Palin's defense.
