As Gov. Paterson and legislative lead ers meet today to tackle a multibil lion-dollar budget shortfall, they should note a new report's warning: New Yorkers are fleeing in droves -- and it's wreaking havoc with the public fisc.

The report, by the Empire Center for New York State Policy, shows that some 1.5 million people left the state between 2000 and 2008 -- including 1.1 million from New York City alone.

I think that there should be a large and encompassing discussion in our country about what has happened to many of our cities. What happened. How it happened and who is to blame and can the trends be reversed.

OUr cities have turned into crime infested hellholes. Business have left, and what was once termed white flight is beginning to look like white (and others) self preservation.

A more difficult issue to look at will be why is it when non whites gain power in cities do they deteriorate so much.

Much needed discussion...will it happen?

Yup, that’s it, Jed...the argumentative annihilation is being sectioned off.

That, or their business taxes are too high...

i doubt seriously that it will ever happen. no matter how many 50s and 60s era housing projects have to be demolished because they’re unlivable, no matter the crime rate and the welfare role, they’ll never look at themselves and accept responsibility for what they did.

if you could prove that inner cities weren’t bush’s doing, they blame reagan. if not him, then nixon. then back to the civil war and slavery, and if you can prove that wasn’t the cause of the current mess, then they’ll go back to the old testament and blame king solomon. when you prove to them that it wasn’t adam and eve’s fault, then they’ll just tell you they believe in evolution.

i agree with ayn rand that the only way to fix liberals is to let them stew in their own juice. they wanna wreck new york - go ahead and wreck it. we’ll keep doing things the right way, and they’ll keep doing whatever it is that they do.

“Not to worry, they’ll pass a law making it illegal to leave the state. There, that should take care of the problem.”

LOL!
I had that very same thought today.
The LAST thing they would ever do is stop and rethink their current strategy.
NO! The obvious thing is make those millionaires stay put, force them to continue earning millions so they can keep on confiscating it!

What this means is that NY will lose congressional seats after the 2010 census and if Hoffman wins NY-23 next week you can bet it will be erased through redistricting.

Ya, I heard Rush when he said that the current governor said that he’d raise taxes earlier if he knew it would cause Rush to leave NY ... what an idiot!!!!!

>I just hope they go to some other liberal hellhole and don’t ruin a conservative state like fleeing californians did.

Oh, they will.[/cynic]

And they do, and they did, and they will do it some more.

One effect: Last year on Election Night three or four talking heads were gathered with Judy Woodruff, I think it was, at a table in a PBS studio, going over election returns.

The visiting "expert" was a professor from iirc George Washington University or Georgetown, I forget which, but they were discussing the races in North Carolina, and how N. Carolina was becoming more liberal as Northeasterners continued to pile into the state, fleeing hellholes like Joizey and Noo Yokk, taking jobs in the Research Triangle and rapidly colonizing and marginalizing the racist-scum "real" Tarheels, about whom the professor wound up his remarks by referring to "the Dukes of Hazzard" -- guffaws all around the table. Including Woodruff, who should have known better since she worked for years at the Atlanta NBC affiliate.

But hey, it's a very fashionable bigotry.

You’re darn right they have. They’ve taken over the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee, and Florida. Georgia is soon to be taken over - it’s almost there. I wish ALL northeasterners would stay in the hole they created themselves. They created this mess, even the Republicans among them. Believe me, the Republicans coming from the northeast aren’t the Republicans we have in the south. Same name, different breed.

Wow, Ed. I think that our pungent friend (posting identical posts across multiple threads in response to multiple other postings all unrelated) really shows his colours. Either that, or Leviathan is sitting on his pointy little head.

I think that it’s very nice having our own personal Aaron. Although it’s confusing, since with him, we have our own personal prophet and our own personal god.

After all, didn’t he create the heavens and the earth, with the exception of WalMart?

Not only that, He (PBUH) creates most excellent word puzzles for us to solve.

More fun than crosswords or Sudoku.

Even better than Scrabble.
