Poll: North Carolinians think country on wrong track

North Carolina voters are not very happy with their representation and tend to think the country is on the wrong track, a poll released Friday by Elon University shows.

Elon polled more than 700 randomly selected adults between Monday and Thursday, asking if they approved of the job being done by President Barack Obama, Sens. Kay Hagan and Richard Burr and Gov. Bev Perdue.

Almost 60 percent of those polled said they think things in the country are on the wrong track; 38.9 percent felt strongly that the county is headed in the wrong direction. Their reasons seemed to be rooted in the recession, with 50.7 percent citing the economy as the most important issue facing North Carolina.

Almost half of those polled, 47 percent, said they disapprove of the job being done by Perdue. She had only a 36 percent approval rating.

The president did not fare much better, but sentiment was almost equally split. Fifty-three percent of North Carolinians said they approve of the job Obama is doing; 44 percent disapprove.

Those polled had the greatest level of confidence in the president among their elected representatives. When asked whom they trusted to do the best job, Obama ranked first, with 34.6 percent; Congressional Republicans were named second, with 26 percent. More than 20 percent of those polled volunteered that they did not trust the president or Congress to address the main issues facing the nation.

The poll also tested sentiment about the war in Afghanistan and found North Carolinians very divided on the issue. Forty-seven percent said the war is worth fighting; 43 percent said it is not worth it. Forty-seven percent oppose sending more troops; 42 percent support it.

NC went for the “one” in ‘08 and now have a bit of buyers remorse. Taking the “who me?” approach to answering the “did you vote for BO and the dems”?

“Fifty-three percent of North Carolinians said they approve of the job Obama is doing...”

In a rational country, only about 5% of respondents would approve of Obama.

Of the many who believe America is on the wrong track, many of these believe the solution is more socialism.

...AND (not that I am a North Carolinian - YET) it seems as though the state congress-critters are coming up with more and more freedom-reducing laws at perhaps, the desire of the LIBERAL northeners who want to flock away from their over-taxing states, but then bring their liberal mental disease right along with them.

My family’s home state - great people but have been invaded heavily from NY, NJ, and Mass. Triangle area now tilts left - never did when I was there. The old Dems (good ole boy network) ran things, but have found themselves trying to deliver to the inported Dem faction.

I'd like to know exactly what it is they approve of. Rising unemployment? Takeover of private business and healthcare? Socialist/Marxist Czars? Bailouts? Trillions in debt? What?

If 53% approve of zer0, why do a majority think the country is going in the wrong direction? That is mixed up. North Carolinians can thank themselves in part for that, as their state went for B0 a year ago!

the minority population, a considerable force in the state, are in lock-step with Obama, IMO.

There’s no fooling North Carolinians. We have veered off into the murky swamp of democratically imposed Communism, and things aren’t quite right. God bless them, and help them understand who Obamao really is.

Obama won NC in the 2008 election.

The 12th congressional district is composed of minority obama idiots.

skin color is all-important to some and probably plays a role in the disparity between the two figures.

HA... Wrong Track ??? This state has derailed.

Releasing Life Sentenced Murderers/Rapists..

Illegal Facial Profile searches of Drivers Licenses.
( I figured they performed that anyway but did not know it was illegal)

Raising TAXES on Everything...

Governor flying here/there/China/bla-bla..even flew up to try and talk the rocks off of I-40... (Unexpectedly , they did not budge)

Shuler trying to secure “obambi money to clean up the rock-slide.

Rudolph the Reindeer appears as a pork-chop..

yea, we're down , but if we make it to have an election next November, oh.oh...

and Shuler, go ahead and crawl back into nazi’s pocket, vote for as much crap as you want, and collect some more AT&T and Tennessee donations..

because from central Haywood west, a door to door is being organized, since a lot of the “live by the sweat of the brow” do not know:

you already sold us out on CAP and TAX!

I know that I watched the false messiah swoop into small NC towns and all of a sudden 2 weeks early voting and ACORN/moveon moved into all the colleges.

"because from central Haywood west, a door to door is being organized,"

I'm here in Macon County. Let me know what I can do to help defeat Shuler. Have been writing letters to newspapers trying to educate folks. Problem we have here are the 'good ole boys' that say "my granddaddy was a Democrat, my daddy was a democrat, so I'm a democrat!!" They have no clue of what they are voting for.
