Schieffer on the Hasan SNAFU
CBS News ^ | 11/8/2009 | Bob Schieffer

Posted on 11/08/2009 7:27:42 PM PST by Saije

The President has asked the nation not to jump to conclusions about what happened at Fort Hood, which is usually good advice, but it is also what government officials generally say when the government fouls up.

Good advice or not, I am jumping to an obvious conclusion: This should not have happened. That doctor should not have been at Fort Hood.

I don't care how hard-up the Army is for mental health professionals - a government psychiatrist with bad performance ratings who had been trying to get out of the Army and who had been saying what Dr. Hasan had been saying about the war on terrorism, should not have been shipped off to Fort Hood to give grief counseling.

What do you suppose he was telling the soldiers, that after what they had done they OUGHT to feel bad?

Certainly, no officer with his record would have been allowed to lead soldiers into combat.

Sadly, this shows that the Army still does not take protecting soldiers' mental health as seriously as it does training them to shoot.

And then there is the other part that often happens in government: Don't deal with a problem, shuffle it off to somewhere else. When he had problems at Walter Reed Hospital, the doctor was just packed off to Fort Hood.

Investigators confirm now that someone by his name had been posting messages on the Internet about how suicide bombers are as heroic as American soldiers who fall on grenades to save their comrades.

But the investigators say it is not clear if Dr. Hasan actually wrote those messages.

Based on what we know so far, my question is, do you suppose anyone has even asked him?

Stating the obvious. Still I think he's right, that it looks like they knew he was a problem and turfed him out. And now we're supposed to see him as a guy who suddenly snapped instead of a ticking time bomb. Which it seems pretty clear he actually was.

We need to start questioning Obama!

We have been looking for Osama Bin Laden for years. Has anybody ever put a picture of Obama next to Osama and removed by photo shop Osama’s Beard? You think we know Obama’s missing background?

Why did he bow to the Saudi’s?

Americans shoud be worried about Obama!

"But the investigators say it is not clear if Dr. Hasan actually wrote those messages. "

In retrospect, it seems very likely.

No, Bob. It shows that the Army was afraid of PC blowback. If someone else had been spouting radical stuff like Hasan did in his MPH courses, he would have been relieved of duty. Hasan was not because people were afraid to look prejudiced.

Considering that Schieffer is an absolutely reliable MSM insider to the Nth degree, this could be significant.

President Zer0 is waiting for Michelle to fully craft him a white knitted Muslim head cap (sorry don’t know the proper name) so Zer0 can emerge into the Rose Garden to allay our fears that the muzzies, like him, are not a threat to modern civilization

Individual Jihad Syndrome, particuarly within the US military ranks means something...it also means something in the general populace.

People die...families and friends are emotionally traumatized, people are scarred and maimed. The teror in the community...and ultimately its anger are inflamed.

If the idiots trying to write this off...to minimize it, cannot see this, too bad for them. But clearly there are individuals being radicalized by the teachings they are receiving either at their Mosque or online, or by others, and who then, on their own, wage violent, murderous Jihad.

Hasan is an example of this.

We now have documented reports that he attended the same Mosque at the same time as two of the 911 hijackers/terrorists, and was taught by the same radical Imam from that Mosque. In addition, he was under FBI investigation for internet postings equating muslim suicide bombers with GIs who threw themselves on grenades to save their comrades, and for his comments after last summer's Little Rock, Arkasas incident where a radical muslim killed the Army recruiter there. His comments basically expressed understanding of that individual's actions and the thought that perhaps more Muslims should take the fight to America in such a fashion.

Those around him knew of his radical views and some reported them. He was not shy about those views.

We need to recognize this for what it is and stamp out those who are teaching and encouraging others to wage war on America from the inside. We need to ruthlessly put down those who do so. This man should be quickly executed for his actions.

Sedition, treeason, and the conequences of it mean something...they mean a lot...and we either respond appropriately to it, or suffer the consequences.

I have little faith that the current occupant of the White House will respond appropriately or stongly to it.

we will see if he walks this back. My guess is that he will, after he wakes up to a horse head in his bed.

Did you notice that there was not one thing said about Hasan’s Muslim beliefs and asking the question if this guy is a terrorist who infiltrated our military?

This is the story that will be coming from the MSM. CBS is usually the lead on these stories coming out of the White House.

The White House’s message you can say anything about this ust make sure you don’t say anything about Islam and terrorism.

Like Islam is the only major world religion that commands its followers to kill adherents of two of the others?

And then there is the other part that often happens in government: Don't deal with a problem, shuffle it off to somewhere else.

That is Bob Shieffer's permission for Obama to blame it on Bush.

Well Bob, if you like these problems, just wait until the government is in charge of your health care. If you can't connect the dots, perhaps you can make an appointment with Dr. Hasan. After all, liberalism is a mental disease.

Poor Bob. Now he’ll never have lunch at the White House.

He’s entirely correct. The FBI, Army, and who knows who else are in full CYA mode.

But it’s clear that the FBI didn’t stop this guy before he killed fourteen people.
