Defending Cao ( Why was he the lone Republican to vote for the healthcare bill?)
American Spectator ^ | 11/8/2009 | Quinn Hillyer

Posted on 11/08/2009 8:22:32 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Conservatives need to take a deep breath, relax, and stop bashing Joseph Cao. The man never claimed to be a fully committed economic conservative. He represents a district that is about 75 percent Democrat and 62 percent black (or thereabouts).

He SAID ALL ALONG, FOR MONTHS, that he would probably vote for health care reform if it included strong pro-life language such as the Stupak Amendment. He stuck to his guns, even though his district is not majority pro-life. He is a traditionalist Catholic, former Jesuit seminarian, and he stands up for the principles he holds dear, one of which is the sanctity of innocent life. He is willing to lose his office on behalf of that pro-life stance. And he has taken a leadership role in anti-Communist measures, meeting with the Dalai Lama when Obama wouldn't, and calling out the Vietnamese Communist government when too many these days refuse to recognize that Vietnam's mostly free market does NOT mean it is a free society. He is a thoughtful, principled, well-intentioned public servant.

He also represents a district that is fundamentally liberal. Congressmen have two roles: they are delegates, meaning their voters delegate to them the ability to use their judgment on complicated policy matters; and they are representatives, meaning they are there, specifically, to represent the will of their constituents. Serving in Congress is often a balancing act: When your district slightly favors one course of action but you strongly favor the opposite, you do what you believe and try to explain to your constituents why you bucked their wishes. That is being a delegate.

It provided the democrats the fig-leaf they needed to claim that the bill had bipartisan support.

Awww c'mon, who's fooling who ? One SINGLE vote and a reluctant one at that is bi-partisan ? That wouldn't garner any serious belief.

Not by any rational person.

The MSM will report it and the democrat base will buy it. Just watch.

“His yea vote would not have changed the result one bit.”

I agree with the facts of the vote. But, do you not realize the power given the Dims by now being able to call this vote “bipartisan?” Did you play the tinman in the Wizard of Oz? You seem to be lacking a very useful organ.

There is a rumor that he has been trying to gain membership in the Congressional Black Caucus since his election and that he has been turned down.

Then just let him run as a democrap.

I'm not supporting what Cao did - it was morally inept.

However, many of the rest of the "pristine" Republicans are just as big of scoundrels. Why?

How many of those pompous self-righteous Republicans voted for George Bush's $750 BILLION DOLLAR stimulus bill?

Did we forget about that?

Let it be known that George Bush helped to absolutely wreck our country economically.

President Bush did some good things as well, but he was an economic nightmare of a president.

By the way, I voted for George Bush twice.

My simple point is that the Republicans are as inept as the Democrats. Both parties KNOW that they MUST keep increasing spending or our nation's economy will never recover.

That's because we have an economy based on debt. It takes the creation of more debt just to survive.

Guess what would happen if our nation's entire debt were paid off tomorrow?

Answer: our economy would collapse - since there wouldn't be any money either. Debt = money and money = debt.

We citizens are the ones that have the power to change our nation's economy.

How? By no longer using banks. Banks take your deposits and indebt your neighbors with leveraged money created out of thin air.

We need some Godly banks that will take your deposits and charge you a fee for safe storage.

Let me be clear on one thing.

This healtcare bill IS GOING TO PASS. Why? Because it's not about healthcare. It's about 18% of our GDP being put under Federal government control so that the government can steal the resources.

No. No more. I will have no more of this.

He represents a pool of parasites who want more jack, as they always want more and more and more jack, as the greed of the idle and covetous is insatiable. To ingratiate himself with this mob of parasites and jack artists, he voted for an UNCONSTITUTIONAL bill that will kill people and rob us all of the the fundamental rights to life and to liberty.

My revulsion at your excuse is beyond my ability to convey.

If dead soul apparatchiks in the GOP authorized and approved this, then it is time to put the old elephant down.

I lived in New Orleans. I drove through Katrina. I lost people to it. I drove through Rita, to get my kid to a medical appointment with a specialist. Don’t give me the sob story. No wonder so many people now detest New Orleanians.

This defense makes me spew.

But, do you not realize the power given the Dims by now being able to call this vote “bipartisan?”

Anybody who uses that vital organ KNOWS that ONE LONE VOTE cannot be called bi-partisan. And anyone who knows the circumstances behind the vote understands that this was done RELUCTANTLY. What power is given the Deims ? They already have the power with their overwhelming majority.

I don’t want to hear any bs excuses for why he broke party lines and was the ONLY RINO to vote for this current travesty called healthcare reform. There IS no valid excuse. Period. He’s another Dede Scuzzabag. He just doesn’t wear a dress in public.

He should be ashamed, if nothing else. His father was imprisoned by communists. And now, here HE is, voting for a communist bill to serve his constituents? BS. He’s trying to get re-elected. Another self-serving RINO ahole.

So there you have it: what the GOP really needs is more RINOs.

Yes. This whole thread has the stink of party hack to it.

Anyone with two functional neurons to rub together knows that what democrats say and believe has everything to do with appearance and nothing to do with substance.

It "feeeeeeeells good" to have a republican vote with them to take down the US economy.

That's all they care about.

That and actually taking down the US economy...

Speaking of donations..two days ago I got a call from the national RNC..you guessed it..we hvae this huge fight on our hands and we need to defeat the democrats quack quack quack...and of course can we count on you for a donation to help with the effort? My reply: “ No you cannot. And you can tell the head of the RNC, Mr Steele that if and until he decided to develop some steal in his spine and stand for what conservatives stand for and stop this go along to get along method he will not get one red cent for any candidates who do not represent the conservative positions. There is real anger out here and he had better wake up to it.” She said I hear you and I said I bet you do and I bet your donations are nil. She said thanks for my time. It isn’t her fault...she is just some lady on the phone and these people are getting all the hell from us out here but unless they pass the message along......d

I agree. I feel for the people that call up. It’s not their fault, and yet they get all the flak.

There is a lot of anger, but we shouldn’t take it out on these poor people that man the phones. And we should help the GOP, but we must attach strings.

When the time comes, and after the primaries, we should help our local party any way we can. We must also help conservative candidates at the state and national level.

Our anger needs to be channeled at the rats and the rino leaders.
