KA-1 2010: McCain endorses 1st District candidate (Rob Wasinger, former Brownback chief of staff)

Congressional candidate Rob Wasinger, R-Cottonwood Falls, gained the endorsement of U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the GOP's presidential nominee in 2008.

"Rob Wasinger has the right experience, vision, and values to lead Kansas into an era of economic growth and prosperity. He is an exemplary public servant we can trust," McCain was quoted saying in a news release from the Wasinger campaign.

"I am humbled to be supported by Sen. John McCain, an American hero who has served our country with honor and integrity both in uniform and in Congress," Wasinger said in the same release.

Wasinger is the former chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan. Brownback lost his own bid to be the party's presidential nominee in 2008. Another candidate in that 2008 contest was former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, of Tennessee, who also has endorsed Wasinger.

Wasinger's home page is a little thin on his stands on the issues, but his former boss, Brownback, supported the McCain amnesty so...one only need to connect the dots here.

I’m so sick of them all patting each other on the back on how great they are while our country is nearing the cliff - like they are deaf/dumb/blind to the obvious.

I take note that Fred Thompson and McCain have endorsed the same candidate for Congress.

My view of Thompson and for that matter my view of Rick Santorum is that they are out there to draw conservatives in with tough speeches and the right words.

They will work to split conservative votes away from Sarah Palin or any other comers so the annointed candidate wins the caucus and primary process.

Then after the dust settles, they’ll pat Willard M. Romney on the back and tell us all to support him for president in 2012.

Tim Huelskamp is a true conservative.

As such, he deserves our complete support!

I’ve been reading about Rob Wasinger for awhile now, and have seen nothing that would hint that he’s anything other than a solid conservative. Just because McCain endorsed him does not mean that his views are similar to McCain’s—McCain likely endorsed Wasinger because his colleague Sam Brownback supports Wasinger and he wants to stay on the good side of the next governor of Kansas (BTW, who was the most recent non-RINO GOP governor of KS?).

I’m sticking with pro-life champion Wasinger until I hear a valid reason to support someone else. Wasinger is a conservative Catholic with 8 children; I would have loved for conservative Protestant Andy Mayberry (who has, what, 9 kids?) to have defeated Vic Snyder in 2008. Like Mayberry, Wasinger would be able to get plenty of attention for conservative causes because his large family would make him an “interesting story” for the MSM.

I have never met a more committed conservative than Rob Wasinger (http://www.robwasinger.com/s/) on all of the issues we care about—from smaller government to lower taxes and scrapping the tax code to respect for the sanctity and dignity of human life. Huelskamp may also be conservative, but he has yet to show an ability to have broad appeal to rally both Conservatives like us and Republicans like McCain. In my book, that’s a huge plus for Wasinger because to effectively advance our cause we must add more people, growing our number.

William Avery 1965-67. He just died this month.

1. This guy was a congressional aide. He's a creature of Congress not a Representative of the People.

2. Who's running in the primary against this guy? Is he solid? No RINO's, no careerist politicians and no McCain supported squishes.

It was reported that McCain is trying to re-make the GOP. Is this guy part of that project? Just say no to Juan McAmnesty.

KS is conservative but only by reputation, not voting records.

Huelskamp seems more conservative with Club For Growth support and the support of former Congressman Ryun.

McCain is the Kiss of Death for me in supporting anyone.

There are other Catholic political insiders like Rick Santorum trying to muddy the waters right now to pave the way for Willard M. Romney in 2012.
