April trial set for ex-LDS seminary principal

An April trial has been set for former Lone Peak High School LDS seminary principal Michael Jay Pratt, who is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student earlier this year.

Pratt, 37, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to 15 felonies: one count of rape, eight counts of forcible sodomy and five counts of object rape, all first-degree felonies, and one count of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

Fourth District Judge Christine Johnson scheduled Pratt's trial to begin April 12.

During an October preliminary hearing, the alleged victim, now 17, testified that her relationship with "Brother Pratt" started with chats about religion, school and "life in general."

But on May 1, Pratt, 37, professed his love for the girl, sparking a two-month sexual relationship the girl believed was prelude to marriage, even though Pratt had a wife and three children.

Pratt was arrested July 9, after the Utah County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the state Division of Child and Family Services, who had received a tip about Pratt.

The girl testified about more than 30 sex acts, mostly fondling and oral sex. But on three occasions, she said, Pratt unsuccessfully attempted sexual intercourse.

She said the encounters occurred up Provo Canyon, on the roof of the seminary building, in a ravine near her Highland home, in an empty home, at a hot springs near Goshen and an abandoned mine near Eureka.

The girl was able to precisely recall when many events occurred because she kept a diary of sorts on her cell phone. Police say evidence, including statements by people who saw Pratt and the girl together, corroborate aspects of her testimony.

Selective enforcement AGAIN! If it’s a Christian school or organization or the Catholic Church it’s KILL THE PERVERTS! If it’s inner city 10 year old mothers it’s “they’re future democrats so the more the better.”

No it has something with authority figure and a position of trust. I’ll hit on the equal treatment when the perps are equal.

It probably wasn’t rape rape.

You would prefer him not to be prosecuted?

I dunno. Arent' women often heard to cry out "Oh God! Oh GOD!" in an ecstatic fashion, during intimate encounters?

(Runs for the exit, ducking for cover.)

Cheers!

“No it has something with authority figure and a position of trust.”

Might it not also have to do with a female willing to deliberately engage in a tryst with a known married man? I think there was once a name for such, something like “home breaker”.

It sounds like ‘Nuts ‘N Sluts’ to this unenlightened one. He was a nut to have anything to do with her, she was something of a slut to be “involved” with a married man.

But, then again, I am just ‘unenlightened’. What would I know?

Naturally, it’s the LITTLE GIRL’s fault.

My daughter is 14 and is still a child. I’m sure some unscrupulous bastard could make something horrible sound logical to her. Then I’d kill him, of course.

That part you are 100% correct on.

“Naturally, it’s the LITTLE GIRL’s fault.”

Your words, not mine.

Do consider that this occurred in a Mormon community where marriage is taken seriously.

I meant the Nuts & Sluts part. Any girl who does not know that a sexual relationship with a married man is wrong is either retarded, urban minority ghetto, or a budding slut.

Any man having anything in the way of a sexual relationship with such a girl is a nut.

Since you mentioned your daughter, is there any part of “no sex with married men” she does not understand? I’d be willing to bet a dozen donuts she does so know. Otherwise you would not likely be on FR instead of DU.

‘Nuff said.

Calling Mr. ObviousMan! Calling Mr. ObviousMan!

Well, since he is on vacation, perhaps I should have used a ‘sarcasm off’ suffix. My apologies to you.

How can you get THAT out of my post? I want all child molesters prosecuted, sterilized, jailed, or shot, if possible. I hate a double standard where white people in any organization, church, school, whatever are prosecuted but minorities doing exactly the same thing in the thousands and thousands don't even show up anywhere. It's outrageous. The lawyers go after the ones with money. They're blood sucking parasites.
