Glenn Beck's 'plan' includes march on Washington
Politics Examiner ^ | November 21, 2009 | Kathy Shaidle

Posted on 11/21/2009 4:03:35 PM PST by restornu

At the Villages in Florida, conservative media superstar Glenn Beck unveiled his hotly-anticipated "Plan" -- a new direction for his program, and for America that he'd been hinting at on the air.

On Saturday, Beck told the New York Times that from now on, along with hosting his popular tv and radio shows, he "would promote voter registration drives and sponsor a series of conventions across the country featuring what he described as libertarian speakers."

He also said he planned to publish yet another non-fiction book in August 2010. (Beck's five previous books have all been NYT #1 bestsellers.)

Already, Mr. Beck’s page on FoxNews.com features what it calls “In or Out 2010,” a “simple challenge” for lawmakers. It includes a pledge to back a freeze in government spending; oppose all tax increases “until our economy has rebounded”; and support stricter immigration enforcement.

According to a message at Glenn Beck's website, the "100 Year Plan" includes:

- Education is key, and not just for our children. To that end, we will be conducting a series of conventions. These will be full-day experiences where you will be immersed in learning about topics ranging from self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country. The first one will be in Orlando at UCF Arena on March 27th…

- All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.

- On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country

"Sunset" the Department of Education and all of its programs, Social Security, and Medicaid/Medicare and then we can talk again.

Confusing.

I love Beck’s show.

And I know he dislikes both parties.

But his plan is to promote libertarians?

Many conservatives, although they may agree with much of the libertarian ideology, do not identify with libertarian politicians. The drug issue, abortion, and what defines a necessary war are three issues that seem to perpetually defy any type of alliance.

I’ve been looking forward to this plan, but it seems like a let down. He’s essentially planning to continue what the grassroots have already been doing and then throwing a host of Ross Perot spoilers to split the next elections on top of it.

I hope I’m misunderstanding the plan.

I hate to say it, but you’re probably right.

Did the Americans living in the 1770’s gain their freedom by having protest marches in Boston and Philadelphia? No!
They had to fight for their freedom, and that included going to war against the soldiers of King George III.

The day of an eruption draws nearer.....

You took the thoughts right out of my head! Glenn has been doing a great job, but he’s close to marginalizing himself with all the build up hype to something that is already happening.

But his plan is to promote libertarians?

He doesn't promote libertarians in the traditional sense. And I think he's avoiding the conservative label because people like Lindsey Graham are considered very conservative.

He's essentially redefining libertarianism. And giving real conservatives a political home away from the Graham's and Gingrich's of the world.

a pledge to back a freeze in government spending

You know what's really interesting about government spending freezes? They don't directly affect the infotainment sector of the economy. A "libertarian" Glenn Beck would hardly notice, unless a bridge he was driving over collapsed due to cancelled maintenance.

I find that really interesting.

“Any planning Beck is doing should be the kind that is done in secret.”

- Correct. Any planning done to such a scale as to overthrow the effects of Obamacare, Crap&Trade, Re-education, etc will involve strategic planning that mandates violence if necessary. Marches don’t cut it.

No way can Beck even hint that that is what he is promoting, or he can expect a visit from every alphabet agency in the United States.

This is disturbing. I enjoy watching Beck, glad to hear him spotlight things that need the white glare, and so forth. And I even agree we are in contention with a Mass Movement, the nature of which was probably no better defined than by Eric Hoffer in "The True Believer," more than 50 years ago.

As such, I think the best defense against a Mass Movement is another Mass Movement, but I don't believe the Obami have their strength centered in an existing Mass Movement, the controlling power they exercise politically is still largely in the area of fashion. The Blue, True Believing cadres are a sorry lot and not a majority among the majority of voters in 2008, and we're peeling away (with the help of those cadres, already over-reaching) the center faster than has ever happened in my lifetime.

Beck setting himself up as a charismatic leader of a counter-mass movement, as the face of the essential counter-revolution that absolutely must occur in the 2010 federal elections, seems counter-intuitive.

I think he's over-reaching here.

Why are there so many naysayers on this thread.....?

I've seen it a lot growing up in black neighborhoods. It's the plantation mentality: they get used to the warm confines of the GOP and shun anyone that wants to break free and live life.

They think it's wisdom, because they've seen what happens to people that leave the comfy GOP house: they lose and the Dems win. So they think the plantation is the only place to be. But they're wrong.

The GOP has taken advantage of the plantation mentality. And they've been actively destroying our freedom.

Just like black people and the Dem party... if you're black and you leave the Dem party everyone shuns you. Same thing here: if you leave the GOP plantation then tons of people on the GOP plantation are going to shun you.

Conservatives don't, but people that aren't politically active think he is. And Libs do to... especially the media. So Beck goes out calling himself a conservative and the media peg him with Lindsey, Newt and the rest. So he's smart not to allow himself to be pegged that way.

Okay...here are some hard realities:

There are literally MILLIONS of gun owners in America. That makes us a force to be reckoned with, true, BUT...How on Earth do we organize?

What do we use to organize? The Internet? Radio? TV? Because of the individuality that seems to be the hallmark of those of us who want to do SOMETHING to change things...how do we make everyone operate from the same page? It’d be like herding cats.

Do you think there’s some sort of signal that would indicate to patriots out there that “It’s time”? And wouldn’t the movement of several thousand armed Americans towards Washington be noticed and allow the FedGov to respond? If they send in the Army, what do we do? Fight against tanks? A hunting rifle isn’t that good against those.

Questions like this are bothersome, I know. But if we’re to re-take the country (with violence seeming to be more and more likely), these are questions (with many more) that have to be answered.

That is what we need - men and women who don’t have anything in their closets (and if they do, they don’t care about being outed) that can run against this most corrupt, entrenched Congress ever. We need people who cannot be bribed, who will stand on principle, and cannot be bullied by anyone (that means the likes of Rahm Emanuel).

That’s a good point, and I can see that.

But he needs to be sure not to throw the baby out with the bath water.

There are plenty of good conservatives who also happen to be Republican. He needs to be sure to include those.

And I think he needs to avoid the term “libertarian.” Though I agree with the libertarians on many issues, the term does carry baggage.

I don’t know what that term would be (Patriot? Constructionist? Constitutionalist? Founders?), but if you take an existing term and try to redefine it, you spend half your energy and time in that effort. That is why part of the leftist strategy is to label a conservative position with an ad hominem term (racist, bigot, homophobe, sexist, etc.). The conservative has to spend their energy defining their position as not racist, bigoted, etc. rather than pushing the agenda they are trying to push.

We don’t have that kind of time.

Well, I’m a huge Beck supporter. So let’s just see how this unfolds.

We have alot of clowns that think that we are at the point where they should start shooting at something. Bunch of hotheads with swap meet pop guns have been looking at one too many Civil War movies.

Our founding fathers strung out any action on independence for a LONG time. Sending petitions and pleading with George III for a long time, and even then the whole idea of separation was a last resort that came close to not happening.

Beck’s plan is the path that will either end with our national redemption or disintegration. We need to make this effort first, then we’ll think the unthinkable.

oppose all tax increases "until our economy has rebounded"

Why issue this proviso? Since lower rates increase revenue why not insist on no tax increase ever again? And while we're at it, have current congressmen/women or those aspiring to be, swear to work for a 10% flat rate until it's a reality.
