As Iran tests the capabilities of its air defense systems in nationwide exercises, the Israeli air force is reported to be planning special seminars to prepare its attack pilots to cope with heavy surface-to-air missile defenses. According to The Jerusalem Post, the sessions will encompass "future conflict with Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Iran" in which air force crews will "have to deal with an unprecedented number of surface-to-air missiles, most of them Russian-made."
None of these adversaries is considered to pose an overwhelming air-defense threat, although Israeli intelligence believes that Iran has supplied some shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles to the Palestinian Hamas faction that controls the Gaza Strip.
The Israelis also believe that Syria may transfer more advanced systems to Hezbollah in Lebanon, where the Israeli air force conducts daily intrusions.
The greatest threat the Israeli pilots will likely face is Iran, which has been building up its air-defense system for some time and is striving to acquire the top-of-the-line S-300PMU1 system from Moscow.
This long-range, high-altitude system is designed to shoot down both missiles and aircraft, and can take them on at a range of 120 miles and at altitudes as high as 90,000 feet.
The mobile system can track up to 100 targets simultaneously and can engage six targets at the same time, destroying them with a volley of 12 killer missiles.
Even though the S-300 has never been tested in combat, it is considered by Western military chiefs to be a highly effective and dangerous system.

May God continue to bless Israel.
Israel does not have an air force capable of carpet bombing.
It does however have a number of nuclear weapons...
More likely, with the current admin we will loan the Iranians Patriot missiles.
That wouldn’t be a problem at all If we loaned them to Iran as “Incoming”
But I have to agree with the thought that the current administration would do almost anything to help our, and our allies adversaries.
I thought Iran has not yet taken delivery of any S-300 missile systems?
Israel has some interesting anti-SAM systems, including a drone that loiters in the area of interest, and attacks SAM radars whenever they switch on. Should be handy pretty soon here...
This is only because the @sshole sitting in the Oval Office refers to the Israeli people as "occupiers." He is/was friends with Rashid Kalidi, who is a known PLO terrorist supporter/sympathizer.
Since Obama spoke and acted like a damn member of Black September at the UN recently, I wouldn't put much faith in his terrorist-sympathizing @ss.
That would not work if most of the Iranian plants are underground.
I still don’t know why we keep hearing about plans. Plans should be secret, and they should be implemented well before the 50th leak of the details.
They have not really disclosed any classified information. You can assume all of the recent exercises with the IDF that something is about to happen. The Israelis have been masters of suprises when it comes to conducting warfare.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
Israel had sure better come up with something, quick.
“...after failing to persuade Russia to deliver the linchpin of its air defenses, S-300 missiles.”
They are training 24/7 for the attack as we text.
buy some old b-52’s that are sitting in the arizona desert, fix ‘em up, hire some ex-pilots, and go to town.
Get spare parts on e-bay
I think Israel should use its version of “Skunk Works” projects.
Like the underground nuclear delivery device the HORTA.
A high speed burrowing projectile that can deliver a below ground fission or anti-matter device. using an ultra secretive means of tunneling that is silent and undetectable it can place triggering devices at nearby earthquake fault lines to stimulate an explosive tectonic event that is untraceable.
