Michael Mann first of climate change scientists to be investigated
Examiner ^ | November 29, 2009 | Tony Hake

The fallout from the Climategate event continues as one of its primary participants, Dr. Michael Mann, is to be investigated by his employer, Penn State University. Among the more than one thousand emails released on the Internet, Mann featured prominently in many of them oftentimes making rather controversial comments.

Mann serves as the director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State and has long been one of the more controversial figures in the debate about manmade climate change. He is the author of the infamous ‘hockey stick’ graph which was used by Al Gore in “An Inconvenient Truth” but later was proven to be inaccurate.

In a statement (below), the university heralded Mann’s accomplishments calling him “a highly regarded member of the Penn State faculty.” It said however that due to the questions raised by the release of the emails, it was going to investigate Mann’s research. “The University is looking into this matter further, following a well defined policy used in such cases. No public discussion of the matter will occur while the University is reviewing the concerns that have been raised,” the statement said.

“Dr. Michael Mann, is to be investigated by his employer”

Should read —
Dr. Michael Mann, is to be investigated by the FBI

I'm thinking this is going to start to snowball.

A lot of scientists, many of them AGW believers, will bristle at the notion that they manipulated data to fit outcomes and admittedly "threw away" the raw data. If for no other reason than it now brings fraud into question on a subject that they see as very important to the future of the planet (in their minds), jeopardizing the entire movement.

I think we are going to see greenie cannibalism on a major scale.

I wouldn't doubt that this is already happening...without Obama's knowledge of course.

There has to be a few FBI agents who see through this scientific funds grabbing charade.

This whole debate has turned on a dime. Just a few months ago, they were talking about prosecuting “global warming DENIERS.” Now they may actually investigate the frauds themselves?? Wow.

If some of these schools have any integrity at all, they will do what Emory U. did with Bellesiles with his fraudulent gun crap and basically force his resignation with an investigation.

Only time will tell but nothing would suprise me...Obama will promise them something to cover it up. I am sure Climate Czar Browner can help them out somehow...seeing she is above the law.

"Inaccurate"? It was determined that with the algorithm used by Mann, a "hockey stick" would have been produced if the data fed into the calculations were random numbers from a phone book.

A little birdie who happens to be a PSU staffer told me last night that a LOT of people at PSU don’t care for this guy, and has used his grant-getting ability to run rough-shod overa lot people at the University.

I think there is more going on here than meets the eye, and profs are VERY vindictive people within the politics of the closed University Society.

It’s good to see Penn State getting ahead of the curve on this whol massive fraud, but the proof will be in the pudding. How likely is it that the “investigators” are “global warming” hoaxers themselves? I would say, pretty likely.

I like the sound of that. It’s always about the money with these “global warming” scammers.
Mann needs to be roundly humiliated before he is jailed.

The same is true of a (man’s evil) climate change guy at my institution. Ironically, the announcment that he is giving a big seminar came out within 24 hours of this scandal breaking. (There is a God).

Wonderful timing for a guy who is reputed to have once demanded the now financially-put upon institition spend 5 million dollars to move a wall four inches solely to accomodate one more grad student desk in a out-building.

Now that’s what I call...”Unprecedented” in the arrogance category.

“I’m thinking this is going to start to snowball.”

I’m thinking we should all be printing these articles & sending them to Senators, congressmen & the EPA. Let them know that we know this is a scam & we aren’t going to put up with cap & trade or Copenhagen or any other nonsense!

True. When universities get into investigating serious charges of academic fraud, they can be quire ferocious, even if the alleged perps are libs. One only needs to look at the well deserved fate of Michael A. Bellesiles, author of the gun grabbers' wet dream and seriously fraudulent Arming America, where Bellesiles tried to prove the RTKBA was not a longstanding American right by using fraudulent data that couldn't be reproduced by other researchers. Bellesiles was utterly disgraced and forced to resign his tenured position at Emory University. Ward Churchill, the fake Indian and plagiarist, met a similar fate at the University of Colorado. Let us hope the same fate awaits this creep.

I sincerely hope so.

This Congressional report:

Congressional Report PDF

states that there were 43 others at the time who were definitely complicit.
The only disappointment was that they were not identified, nor their "place of busines" (country and Institution) given.
