The Worst Kind Of Scheduling Conflict [Obama Address preempts Charlie Brown Christmas]
Morning Call ^ | November 30, 2009 | John L. Micek.

Posted on 12/01/2009 7:23:23 AM PST by PapaBear3625

President Barack Obama ... ... is slated to deliver a prime-time address on Tuesday night in which he'll lay out his plans for the American war in Afghanistan.

The address before the United States Military Academy at West Point on Tuesday night will not only be used to announce the immediate order to deploy roughly 30,000 more troops, but the administration will also use the occasion to convey how it intends to turn the fight over to the Kabul government, the New York Times reported.

But the administration may also face an unforeseen enemy as it lays out its long-awaited plans. And they are loud and they are legion: We're talking about preschoolers and their parents.

That's because ABC-TV was scheduled to present its annual screening of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at 8 p.m. tomorrow night. And we don't know about you, but that show is pretty sacrosanct around our house and not to be trifled with lightly.

A call to the White House may be in order here. We hear it's pretty easy to get through these days ...

I heard that this morning on the news and thought “How many folks are going to be happy to have to wait another week to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special to see his face YET AGAIN.

I prefer the cartoons to most of the rest of the junk that’s on TV. At least you know they are fiction!

I’ve bought all my favorite Christmas shows on DVD: Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas, Bells of St. Mary’s, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. This way, I’m not at the mercy of the television networks and can watch them whenever I want.

Why can’t he show a little class and release his plans in writing or on the radio and spare us having to look at his mug....oh, I forgot, ‘class’ is not in his lexicon and neither are the grades he received in any.

Well, guess there is no need to turn on the TV tonight... Sorry ABC.. Charlie Brown Christmas is an annual tradition, and you better believe me and the family would have tuned in tonight... but you can bet your bottom dollar, we won’t now. We’ll just have to pop the DVD in instead.

So tell me again, how’s that change working for ya?

And the claymation classics (Rudoplh The Red-Nosed Reindeer with Burl Ives), and the original Grinch-is there any other one? Not for me.

"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid ... And the angel said unto them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord." "And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men."

"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

That’s fine Grams A. I’ve been telling others that I am glad they enjoy the CB cartoons. I’ve found them to be consummately annoying. BTW, this is not a statement about the Christmas program or it’s content.

Hey, that’s how I see it. I don’t expect anyone to change their mind.

I’m glad you enjoy it. It’s nice that your family has enjoyed it for generations.

“For the Charlie Brown fans, sorry folks. Take your little blankey over in the corner and pout.”

Yeah, because it’s only the adults who will be upset.

True. And hey, I realize a lot of folks think the CB cartoons were wonderful. I just wanted to voice the idea that some of us think of it more like fingernails on a chalkboard. Take care.

A proper network would show Charlie Brown’s Christmas INSTEAD of Obambi. That would send a strong editorial message, and would tick off the left. Which would be fun.

let’s see, it’s only Tuesday and no Charlie Brown Christmas for you tonight, the bamster’s polls are falling, he’s not held any press conferences since July, Aunt Zaytunie is crying about her immigration status and airing the family laundry,Politic has nailed the bamster on the 7 things he doesn’t want you to know about him, Michelle Obama doesn’t know what to put on the White House Christmas tree and there’s a semi-investigation on the chitlin’ party crashers.
The bamster’s plate seems a little full this week don’t you think?

Well, when I was a kid I didn’t find it entertaining. I’m sure lots of kids do. I just wasn’t one of them.

Look, I’m just expressing the idea that some of us don’t care for Charlie Brown cartoons at all.

I’m glad you folks do, and I think it’s fine if you want to slam me a bit on this. I opened myself up to it, and I don’t mind at all.

Hey, it’s your turn... ;-)
