Canada condemned on Monday a series of elaborate hoax emails and a fake website story that claimed the country would cut emissions of greenhouse gases by a much greater amount than previously announced.
Officials said they believed environmental activists were responsible for the hoax...
Canada is under heavy fire from green campaigners...
The initial email, purporting to come from the federal environment ministry, said Canada would set binding emissions reductions targets of 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 and at least 80 percent by 2050.
It also announced Canada would give billions of dollars to African countries for emissions-reduction strategies and provided a link to a fake federal environment website.
A second email, also supposedly from the environment ministry, apologized for the hoax and linked to a fake Wall Street Journal story based on the first email as well as a fake United Nations site.

Childish pranks by Canadian green campaigner Steven Guilbeault ?
Could anyone explain to me why any human being living in Canada would want to stop global warming?
Well, according to the Goracle, the warmer temperatures have allowed the pine beetle to flourish (instead of the cold killing them off) and it's wiping out all the pine trees up through BC. Let's not pay any attention to other factors such as normal cycles. Let's just all hope that the Canucks show some spine in Kookyhagen and walk away like they did at Kyoto.
If it gets warm enough they can grow oak trees... or coastal redwoods.
About three years ago, one of our local Greens solemnly announced that hardwoods would be gone from our area shortly. He was planting trees (he failed to name the species, even after I asked)that he said usually thrive in zone 5 or 6. But, “due to climate change”, his trees were either doing poorly or dieing off in our zone 4 climate.
I don’t argue with them any longer. I ask questions, preferably with other people around, hoping to get them on record with various stupidities that will later be remembered by the other listeners.
