Rep. Capauno Tells Fellow Democrats: 'You're Screwed'
Yahoo ^ | December 15, 2009

Posted on 12/15/2009 6:28:45 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

When House Democrats gathered on Friday for their end-of-the week caucus meeting in the basement of the Capitol, caucus chairman John Larson (D-Conn.) told the group he wanted them to hear first from Rep. Michael Capuano, who'd just returned from a primary campaign for the Senate seat in Massachusetts vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy.

Larson asked Capuano, who finished in second place, to share the wisdom that he learned on the campaign trail.

Capuano took to the microphone, looked out at his colleagues and condensed what he'd learned into two words. "You're screwed," he told his friends in the House, according to one attendee. The room's silence was broken only by soft, nervous laughter.

Well, well, this was an unexpected moment of candor. I’m hopeful that he’s right. Republicans will clean up if they play their cards right.

The Dems are outpacing the GOP in fundraising. So gaining Congressional seats is not a given.

Read the story, it boils down to “The government has the answers, but we aren’t doing enough quickly enough”.

The amazing part about that article was how the Dem’s constituents were asking for handouts to “create jobs”.

Dems are so pathetic.

Yes, but the devil’s in the details. He reports that people just want jobs and they don’t care a whit how they get them. His constituents in Taxachusetts told him just hand over the money, gobs and gobs and gobs of it, to the towns and let them hire people for make-work work.

He tells the Dims they’re screwed but it has nothing to do with the power-grab Health-Graft bill. The screwedness can be easily fixed—from a Dimcrat perspective—by throwing money at it.

So we are screwed even worse than this fool thinks we are. His constituents are howling for more government handouts as the solution to their unemployment.

Conservatives have to be very careful & take it race by race, district by district to make sure not to split the vote & let Dems win because of conservative divisions.

A Republican win for Kennedy's seat in the Massachusetts special election next month would be a 10.0 political earthquake.

A big wild card is Independent Libertarian Joseph Kennedy on the ballot. Chances are he would draw more dumb democrats by his name.

We’ll gain at least a few. How much is and where is the where the fundraising comes into play.

Well, I suppose this is somewhat encouraging, but people who do not know Capuano should know a few things.

His campaign in MA (for Ted Kennedy's seat) put a lot of emphasis on his opposition to the war in Afghanistan. He basically said that he would vote against it 100% of the time. He lost the race. Now, I'm not saying he lost because the residents of MA support the war and he does not. They don't. But Capuano is not reporting on what he heard the voters tell him during the campaign. He is merely repeating statements from his campaign literature. So how much does that represent the Will of the People??

And jobs? He's pushing for government handouts. He wants more Stimulus. "Give me millions to hand out, and I can create jobs and grow the economy." This is the other leg of his (failed) campaign. Again, this isn't what people told him as he campaigned across MA -- this is what he told them.

He is not a reliable guide. Now, I think he is correct that the Dems are screwed, but his "solution" is for the US to more of a pacifist nation, and to spend billions more on Stimulus.

Our hope should be that the Dems listen to him and take his advice. Because he understands nothing.

Yeah, according to the article, Capuano thinks the Dems are screwed not because they're trying to ram an unpopular health care "reform" bill down our throats, but because they DON'T vote against the war in Afghanistan, and they DON'T give handouts for "jobs" quickly enough. This is criticism from a guy who's even to the left of the Dems in Congress, and even further out of the mainstream than they are.

My advice to the congressional majority: take Capuano's advice, go ahead, vote against Afghanistan, throw more money at state and local governments and public employment, run more deficits, print more money, then sit back and see how screwed you are next election.

He asked one crowd if it thought that a town could start hiring people within a month if it was given a million dollars on the condition it begin employing people -- the crowd was certain it could.

After the event, a top finance official from the town approached him. "Not only could I do it in 30 days, I could do it in a week," she said.

Is this how the Democrats think they can restore prosperity to America? Just give a city a million dollars so they can hire? If so, they are dumber than I could have imagined.

Government handouts do not create lasting wealth. They apparently think they can borrow money from the Chinese to buy votes and let their grandchildren pay it back.

Hmph, yeah. Sadly MZ is right. All that will be reported is that Obama had a "noose" around his neck. Not being roped in. And no mention of the white guy (Reid) with a lasso around his neck either.

In other news, I hear Reid is doing the cover of Playboy??? Talk about poor taste.

Oh, that was Tara. Nevermind. Then again, her tummy is even more wrink. Blah. Can't even finish writing that one.

From the Huffington Post article:

“He said voters were less interested in tax credits than they were in direct money for jobs. He asked one crowd if it thought that a town could start hiring people within a month if it was given a million dollars on the condition it begin employing people — the crowd was certain it could.

“After the event, a top finance official from the town approached him. “Not only could I do it in 30 days, I could do it in a week,” she said.

“Democratic leadership in the House is still working on a jobs bill. Larson told a handful of reporters on Monday that it would likely include roughly $70 billion and focus on infrastructure, aid to state and local governments, and extending unemployment and COBRA health insurance subsidies for the jobless.”

You see, the only thing these people see is government employment and government capital improvement projects, as means of putting people to work. Look at it closely.

These people think that the government produces wealth.

There is NOTHING in there about doing anything to create private sector jobs that really can produce wealth.

When these people talk about “jobs” they are still talking SOCIALISM !!

” People are tired of the promises of jobs. They need them now.”

This is reality Democrats and Republicans. We sit and watch them play some disgusting little game for MONTHS on something most people say is #2 on the list of importance at best and they are completely oblivious to what real people are going through. Like the Lords, Dukes and Kings of a time gone past, they have no idea what the unwashed masses are going through because they are much like self involved children who thinks YOU disappear when THEY cover their face.

Who says the Dims don’t believe in trickle down. They send money to state and local governments and expect them to provide the jobs. Of course all levels of government are sucking up funds from the people in the private sector who are paying taxes.

If independents come out in good numbers to vote, then the Dems will truly be screwed since most indies won't be voting for Dems. But that is a big "if", since independent voters could simply be turned off by both choices and stay home. But, if the Dems believe that Afghanistan and more government spending are the amswers to their dropping poll numbers, they could be in for a long night on Election Night.
