NO, NOT ON THE ROAD..............
“The operator then asks him to turn off the engine.
“No, the key won't actually move,” Mr Weir replies.
He tried to switch the 4WD into neutral but he is heard saying on the tape “the button won't push in.”

I don’t even read English well.
Yup.
Exactly the same as the drivers of those Toyotas that “go out of control” when a floormat gets jammed against the accelerator pedal.
People who are that susceptible to blind panic should not be allowed to drive.
What a lot of “he didn’t read the article” posts on this thread! ;)
If you turn the ignition off the steering wheel locks up.

Read. The. Article.
I did read the article. And I don’t believe him.
Found On Road Dead
We used to take rental cars on business trips and floor the accelerator and lock up the emergency brake. You could drag that one wheel @ 80 mph for miles, or until it blew. It's value is as a parking brake only.
Same thing happened to my grandmother in her 1972 Cougar XR7. The only difference was that she was in a shopping mall parking lot. My brother eventually reached up from the back seat and pushed the shifter into neutral. It was a broken motor mount which caused the 351 Cleveland to twist in the mount, pulling on the throttle cable.
Rgr that
Since when does ANY vehicle need to have a button pressed to achieve “Neutral”?
No, it does not lock the steering wheel. That only happens in the remove key position.
“everything” didn’t fail at once, doesn’t sound like he tried the handbrake until the very end (when he did stop the car).
I had my throttle stick wide open on an ‘81 Olds once. Luckily, I was commuting into Detroit from Ann Arbor. It was rush hour, so I just got into the left lane and cruised at 90mph until I found a decent off-ramp.
There is a difference between not reading the article and not finding the statements to be credible whatsoever.
The driver may have had 1 tube too many of the frosty amber fluid.
“Hmm..seems like a lot of things failed at once. Cruise control, ignition key, brake, button on stick, BRAIN”
