Our 1962 Rambler Wagon had a push button transmition. Kewl Car!
Sounds like somebody wanted their fifteen minutes of fame.
Real terror, there, yakking on the cell phone while supposedly out of control. Pop it into neutral and blow the engine, if anything else, but I do have a very hard time envisioning the brakes not being enough to slow and even halt the vehicle. Automatics have torque converters, so that wouldn’t overpower the brakes. A manual would stall the engine.
I call bs.
i take it not all posters have actually read the article... he tried turning off the ignition... the key would not move... this happened to a gal in the US a couple of years ago... she could not stop her car... she was going 90 at one point--not of her own doing... she tried stopping all the different ways the 911 operators were telling her, but could not... eventually a police in a police car got her to stop by running into her...
“Somethin smells fishy here ....”
My BS meter is pegged in the red.
There are times when one wants their terror to be well documented, videotaped, and transcripted as public record. Hmmmm.....
What a moron...
See the "BlondeStar" comment.
I don’t thing the steering wheel will lock unless you actually remove the key.
The driver may be right. I recently had a rental car completely lock up on me when I stopped for gas. I had the gas pumps blocked and know it all after know it all got in and couldn’t get the ignition key to move or the automatic transmission out of park. The vehicle was a Cobalt. The rental company brought me another car and had the defective towed to a dealer. They latter told me it was the ignition switch. The situation was as if someone had deactivated the vehicle. I can see when it is locked into a gear and it want leave that position you would try to push button.
I am still confused as to how Toyota and floor mats is happening.
I read the article. I simply do not believe what the guy said.
BS....These people are certified idiots.
As in, I dont believe a WORD of his story.
That thought crossed my mind as well.
And as an added bonus, since his “emergency” is now a matter of “nanny-state” record, he’ll be able to sue the manufacturer of the vehicle.
Yikes...I would’ve needed a change of pants after something like that. What did you do to get it to stop - just shut the car down once you entered the ramp?
YOU don’t really want to check his “drawers” do ya??!!! I bet there ARE skid marks!!
Never said I wasnt skeptical. My comment was in regards to you asking questions that were answered in the article....thats all.
On advice of their lawyer, no doubt.
...and it’s NOT offered as an option on the Ford Explorer!
