Right now, the Senate is voting on a procedural motion to table debate on the Defense bill - which Republicans are hoping to filibuster, in an effort to stall debate on the upcoming Health bill. Because Lieberman didn't show up today, the Republicans just need to stick together on this to prevail - without defections from Collins or Snowe.

I just heard the name Collins called out. Game over.
What? Why over?
The just wheeled Byrd in to vote Aye, so now the game really is over now.
My C-span 2 is pre-empted by a show about Botox..keep us advised..
Here’s the live thread - if you want to post your comments. I’ll be checking this thread but cannot stomach watching 1 second of it on cspan.
Am expecting another epic FRAUD today....like the Dopenhagan “success.”
Game is over on this particular delaying tactic - and now the debate starts on the Health bill, which may still be blocked in upcoming votes.
But it looks like the ultimate game will be over if the Democrats get Ben Nelson on board, which is likely in my opinion.

I don’t think Obamacare is over ~ Defense spending apparently is. They will still try to stall the Obamacare bill.

Lieberman is stuck in the snow.
Good - can’t believe all those Senators made it in!
Snow must not be that bad in DC yet. Too bad.
Thanks to all for the ongoing commentary and reports.
What exactly happened with Snowe?
Stalling Defense would have mucked up Reid’s schedule, and helped to prevent Senate passage of the Health bill before Christmas, allowing Senators to go home and get more hell from their constituents, so this is a pretty big fail.
I haven’t heard Snowe’s name called out yet - Yeah or Nea. However, Collins vote Yea, so if all the Democrats showed up today and vote they win.

Is everyone except Lieberman there right now?
I think they are all already in there.
Feasting on cocoa and hot buttered scones ~ paid for by you and me.
I live about 30 miles due north of the Capital, in central Maryland, and the snow is coming down to beat the band and it looks like it will for a spell. Often the weather, particularly the snow is different in DC.
Regardless, that don’t matter, they will simply send a Hummer or Escalade out with a full compliment of security and more buttered scones.
These people make me sick!!
God bless Tom Coburn. He’s in there fighting to the last second.
How did they get the 63 votes.... hum mmm let me guess.
Is Byrd there? Lieberman?
NOVEMBER 2010 !
The last motion passed 63-35 - 98 votes. So 2 didn’t show or didn’t vote. All Republicans don’t need to show as procedural motions are blocked when when the tally fails to reach 60. But the Democrats need their 60 to show up and vote (or 59 + Collins and/or Snowe.)
They probably slept there. They all have accomodations available.
Senator Coburn just raised a point of order
because technically they are going over the agreed to debt ceiling
by this defense bill.
Senator Reid just said I waive the regulations. (something like that)
They didn’t have a good reply (Reid and the Democrats).
I read in the newspaper they could use TARP or something until
they do raise the debt ceiling formally, but
it’s good that they get them on record for blowing up the debt ceiling.
Sounds like Lieberman is there.
While in no way wishing anyone ill, just imagine the scene if Sheets..just before he is to vote, expires on the Senate floor...obviously the strain of being dragged out in a blizzard, early on a Saturday morning..was too much for him. I suspect that Sheets might like to go that way..
Got it...thanks...
Webb & Byrd just voted aye.
I don’t think they have 60 votes yet on this.
The old KKK Kleagle already voted on the 1st procedural motion today. He might be on his way home already, as I’m not sure the Democrats need him again today.
My cable co moved CSPAN2 to one of the upper digital tiers. I can no longer watch it on the analog TV in my computer room.

How many people does it take to get Byrd up and going and on to the Senate floor to cast his 1 vote of the day???
My guess: 15
It’s an open question whether Byrd is alive. The Democrats could be orchestrating a Weekend at Bernie’s maneuver.
I don’t think Byrd is really all there anymore.
His office manager likely casts the vote for the people of West Virginia.
I recently became a Nursing Assistant ~ since my business is going under ~ I’m fortunate to have ANY job.
I think it takes two GNA’s (Geriatric Nursuing Assistants) and rotating RNs to get the Senator rolling.
A driver, 4 office staffers, 4 security.
15 is probably pretty close.
Actually, you need 2 to 3 drivers for that entourage.
The Repubs are making them read ALL amendments.
GOd bless them. They are fighting the war.
Are you kidding me?
Reid just asked for nine minutes for Ben Nelson to speak
before reading the “manager’s amendment.”
Or, why the dog ate my homework (why i had to vote for Deathcare)
McConnell objected. I said YEAH!!! they don’t deserve any debate.
They made their bed. They lie in it.
Reading of bill commenced. who knows WTF is in it.
Everything should be read.
It shouldn’t be this convoluted.
It should be simple.
Sen McConnell yells "I count that as a NO vote".
“Reid just asked for nine minutes for Ben Nelson to speak
before reading the managers amendment.
That was my take, as well.
No more splaining, Ben. You voted for it. I hope the pro-lifers throw your ass out.
NOBODY knows what’s in it, but it’s not boding well.
The amendment being read appears to be something Nelson wanted.
Mitch objected. GOOD on him.
LOL - the clerk, just said, “I don’t know where I am” - she’s lost to too. It’s such a bunch of mumbo jumbo, it doesn’t make any sense to anyone.
Right now the clerk is reading the mega “manager’s amendment,” which will take many hours.
It looks as if the fix is in.
Before the present reading, Harry Reid tried to get unanimous consent for Ben Nelson to make a “9 minute statement” (Mitch McConnell objected.) Because this “statement” was apparently coordinated in advance with Reid, it’s likely it would have consisted of Nelson’s reasons for caving on ObamaCare.
It seems that right now our best (only?) hope is that Pelosi won’t force a vote in the House on the identical bill, thus avoiding the need for the bill to go to a House-Senate conference. A conference - and subsequent votes on the final bill in both houses of Congress - would buy more time; for polls on the President, Democrats in Congress, and ObamaCare to decline even further, and for Congressmen’s constituents to raise hell.
Defence Bill RINOS: Snowe, Collins and Kit Bond!
Does Nebraska have procedures to recall their Senators as was threatened upon Lieberman?
ping
I thought Bernie Sanders of Vermont said he wouldn’t vote for this if it didn’t have a govt’ run option in it.
Thanks for the LIVE-THREAD ping, onyx.
Thanks for the ping.
Listening to clerk stumble over the big words in the amendment. : o /
