:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Critical Threats: Blank When None
Al Qaeda’s Yemen Connection, America and the Global Islamic Jihad

December 30, 2009 — The attempt to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day underscores the growing ambition of al Qaeda's Yemen franchise, which has grown from a largely Yemeni agenda to become a player in the global Islamic jihad in the last year. Since merging with the al Qaeda franchise in Saudi Arabia last January and renaming itself Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), it has stepped up operations in Yemen itself, struck into Saudi Arabia, and now operates on the global stage. The weak Yemeni government of President Ali Abdallah Salih, which has never fully controlled the country and now faces a host of growing problems, will need significant American support to defeat AQAP.

Al Qaeda has long been active in Yemen, the original homeland of Osama bin Laden's family, and one of its first major terror attacks was conducted in Aden in 2000, when an al Qaeda cell nearly sank the USS Cole. A year ago, the al Qaeda franchises in Saudi Arabia and Yemen merged after the Saudi branch had been effectively repressed by the Saudi authorities under the leadership of Deputy Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Nayif. The new AQAP showed its claws last August, when it almost assassinated the prince with a suicide bomber who had passed through at least two airports on the way to his attempt on Nayif.

(snip)

The attack on the Amsterdam-Detroit flight also shows that al Qaeda remains obsessed with striking the American airline industry, a target it has gone after repeatedly since 1999. If AQAP has now been told by the al Qaeda core leadership to take on the job, we can probably assume that other al Qaeda franchises in North Africa, Iraq, Southeast Asia and elsewhere have also been pressed to attack.

Again, you're welcome Cindy. Here's more of same:

Here we go folks......

Lawyer has terror-case track record

The lawyer appointed to represent the man accused of attempting to bomb Northwest Flight 253 had prior success helping to defend an alleged terrorist.

Miriam Siefer, the chief public defender in Detroit, also has handled cases involving disturbances on other Northwest flights, including one in which a man pleaded guilty after illegally transporting ammunition and saying he was traveling overseas to kill Osama bin Laden.

Defense lawyers with experience in terrorism-related cases say Ms. Siefer's latest job -- representing 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was charged with trying to blow up a Christmas Day flight to Detroit -- will be difficult, in part because of his alleged statements after the incident. Among other things, passengers have said Mr. Abdulmutallab told them he had an "explosive device" after passengers and crew put out a fire that had started in his lap. He also allegedly told investigators he had affiliations with al Qaeda operatives in Yemen, who gave him the device and detonation instructions to blow up the plane.

If we don't profile, we're nuts!

Snips: But no, owing to politically correct folderol that falls little short of criminal negligence and nothing short of outright stupidity, profiling is viewed as, oh, so, you know, unfair and, my goodness, discriminatory, and, well, what are dozens of bodies blown to pieces next to those concerns?

It's absolutely nuts not to profile – which is to say, pay special attention to people with certain characteristics – because we know that most terrorists having at Americans are young men of jihadist stripe often coming from certain parts of the world. Focus on these people as they board planes, and if something is out of line, there's a good chance you'll find it.

The anti-profilers also tell you that profiling will somehow make you miss the terrorist who does not fit the bill, such as the 80-year-old great grandmother from Peoria who does militia training on weekends. Well, no it won't. Paying special attention to some does not mean you will pay no attention to others. But because intensive searches of everyone are impractical, we should play the odds by figuring young men are more likely to be terrorists than old women. We will save more lives that way.

Saving lives is what it's about, of course, and that's what the Army failed to do in the case of Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan, who announced his jihadist fanaticism to just about anyone who would listen but was apparently left alone because officials thought it would be unseemly to kick a Muslim out of the Army. He shot 13 people to death at Fort Hood. Political correctness can be deadly.

Whose fault is it?

Even taking into consideration the failings of the CIA, the Department of State, and the Department of Homeland Security, some of this is President Obama’s fault. He has guaranteed that we will get far less intelligence from this terrorist than we would have under the Bush administration. Because the highly successful Clinton law-enforcement model has been reintroduced to the War on Terror, no sooner was the fire in Abdulmutallab’s pants out than he was read his Miranda rights and provided with a taxpayer-financed public defender. Under the terrible ancien regime, when the world hated us, and the terrorists were inspired to attack us because Guantanamo was not listed in Fodor’s Guide (except, gosh, they seem not to have gotten the memo because they persist in attacking), Abdulmutallab would have been hustled down to Guantanamo to be interrogated. Yes, interrogated. Not tortured. Not waterboarded (that happened to only three detainees), but interrogated about his contacts, his experiences in Yemen, his explosives training, and so forth. If he wanted better treatment — dessert, videos, music — he could purchase these with cooperation.

Not now. His lawyer, Miriam Siefer (who has represented terrorists before) will advise him to stay silent. We will learn nothing of other plots Abdulmutallab might have provided leads to, and nothing of the whereabouts of his supposed mentor, American-born Yemen resident Anwar al-Awlaki — the imam who also incited the Fort Hood killer, had contact with two of the September 11 terrorists, and who has been described by Al-Arabiya as “the bin Laden of the Internet.”

Speaking of Yemen, in the mad scramble to close Guantanamo by Obama’s self-imposed deadline, just this month the administration released six detainees to . . . Yemen, with the promise of 34 more to come. Well, didn’t the Bush administration release two Yemenis to Saudi Arabia who later moved to Yemen and continued jihad? Answer: Yes. Here’s another question: Why didn’t the Obama administration study that failure?

And here’s one more question: How does an overgrand, overreaching, would-be messiah learn the humility to at least put first things first?

DEBKAfile - A Tardy Wake-up Call for Spreading al Qaeda Menace

EXCERPT:

....DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources note that in the past year, Washington was strangely deaf to a flood of notices from Saudi, Egyptian and Yemeni security agencies warning that al Qaeda networks had established themselves in Yemen and so gained a jumping-off base into the Arabian peninsula and across the strategic Gulf of Aden. The network was now directly linked from Yemeni shores to Osama bin Laden at his new headquarters in Pakistani Baluchistan. These warnings went unheeded by the relevant agencies in Washington. Only two months ago, on Oct. 7, President Barack Obama told the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean, Virginia: "We're making real progress in our core mission - to disrupt, dismantle and..."

I've read quite a few opinion pieces that growing up islam can interfere with the ability to use reason, to think logically.

Hmmmm, that would be the rationale (minus Islam) behind liberals too more than likely.

There are interesting news photographs in the thread linked to below showing President Barack Obama surrounded by black Secret Service men. There are no female agents pictured and there are no agents of a different race in any of the photos.

A question was posed on that thread, 'Did BHO get rid of all the caucasian Secret Service detail at the WH?'

And then it was asked if the men guarding him are all muslims.

On re-reading the thread, it occurs to me to wonder if any of his secret service detail belong to the Nation of Islam??

Obama or Malcolm X?

If I ever come across any of the pieces, I'll post them here and ping you.

Some of them are very detailed, and almost sound like they are written by clinical psychologists.

Some of the problem - other than much of the cultural stuff we've read that destroys childhood, there is also the fact that in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan mothers want to protect their children from the Evil Eye.

Seriously. So they rub what I believe is called KOHL around the children's eyes -- it's a blackish looking eyeshadow.

GUESS WHAT IS IN IT?? Very high amounts of lead -- so that is a very critical problem for the development of the brain.

Anyway most of the articles discuss abit the impact of the concept of INSHALLAH upon the critical functioning of the intellect, and evidentally believing from a very young age that EVERYTHING that transpires is the Will of Allah, i.e., that the individual has NO impact upon himself or his environment --- it stunts all critical thinking abilities.

I'll have to find some of these articles, but it's been years since I read them.

Jiverly Wong, (formerly Woong,) the Citizenship Center shooter, was ALSO depressed and lonely. He was befriended by two muslims who empathized, commiserated, and sympathized with his plight. These two were his "only friends" at the end. The "only" people he could trust, and the "only" people he would speak to.

Springfield Shooting
Taliban Claim
Story Published: Apr 3, 2009 at 11:36 AM EST
Story Updated: Apr 4, 2009 at 10:35 PM EST

Binghamton, NY - The man who police say killed 13 people in a shooting rampage inside an immigrant community center was depressed and angry over losing his job and about his poor English skills, the Binghamton mayor and police said today.

Police Chief Joseph Zikuski told NBC's "Today" that people "degraded and disrespected" the gunman over his poor English. Mayor Matthew Ryan, speaking on ABC's "Good Morning America," said the man, believed to be 42-year-old Vietnamese immigrant Jiverly Voong, was angry about his language issues and his lack of employment

A string of attacks in the U.S. in the last month left 44 people dead in all.

A gunman killed 10 people and himself in Samson, Ala.; shootings that began with a traffic stop in Oakland, Calif., left four police officers and the gunman dead; an apparent murder-suicide in Santa Clara, Calif., left six dead; and a gunman went on a rampage at a nursing home Sunday, killing seven elderly residents and a nurse who cared for them.

Pakistan Taliban Claims
Islamabad - Pakistan's top Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud has reportedly claimed responsibility for a mass murder in New York state that killed 13 people.

"I accept the responsibility. They were my men,'' Mehsud told reporters in Peshawar on phone from an undisclosed location.

Mehsud said the massacre was in revenge for the continued US drone attacks on Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan. The seven semi-autonomous tribal districts are known to serve as sanctuaries for al-Qaeda and Taliban rebels.

The militant commander added that his men would hit US targets until Washington halted the missile strikes.

Adam Gadahn claims VA Tech Shooting

Your failure to heed our demands . . . means you and your people will . . . experience things that will make you forget the horrors of things such as Sept 11, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Virginia Tech.

VA Tech's Cho ALSO fit the mold for islamic recruits. Having researched Cho all the way back to his family in SKorea, there is not a single doubt in my mind that this was an islamic terror attack covered up in what appeared to be deliberate disinformation given to the media by the investigators of this attack.

This series of pictures were thrown out into the media as if they had all taken place at one time. NO explanations of these images were forthcoming, but they were NOT all from the same timeframe and NONE of them were done in Cho's dorm room as was touted.
Cho's dormroom had similar walls, but the roomate disputed the pics and video were done there, especially the ones done on the same day of the attack. The roomate was IN HIS ROOM for the entire morning ALONE. Cho was not there.
Eerily, the SAME islamic center attended by the "depressed" Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, was the same center that was just a few miles from VA tech, and in this series of photos, you see that someone picked Cho up in a van and returned him in the same van looking totally different than when he was picked up.

Much more to this story as well.

Al Quaeda claims responsibility for Christmas day Flight attack
In the Arabian Peninsula, Al-Qaida is saying that they are responsible for the attempted bombing of a Northwest flight to Detroit on Christmas day (see video below). Thwarted only by a faulty trigger and proactive passengers, Al-Qaida says that this was an effort to retaliate for an anti-Al-Qaida U.S. operation in Yemen.

An online statement made by al-Qaida claimed that 23-year-old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was an agent acting on behalf of their group.

Another depressed and lonely type.

*******************

These are not the only attacks I have followed. I had tracked the DC Snipers to Al Fuqra and found that not only were THEY connected out of Portland, but so was the Police Chief Moose who had been hand selected by Janet Reno for his position. It was later learned that Moose KNEW the suspects were black but never passed that information along, giving the shooters plenty of time to generate as much fear as they could. Moose was never charged and ended up, in of ALL PLACES, Hawaii, where, to my knowledge, he still is.

These are only a few of the plots covered up by law enforcement in the US. There have been many others including train wrecks, warehouse fires, forest fires, etc.
Why, you ask?
Because there are so many, and it shows that law enforcement has been utterly incapable of stopping or even slowing them down. Our agencies are packed with islamists and islamics who sympathize with islam.

More to come...

Al Qaeda learns how US handles terrorist plane bomb attempts

Snips: Al Qaeda has learned more about the way the United States reacts to terrorist bomb attempts than the US has learned about other attempts potentially in the planning stages. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, attempted bring down Northwest flight 253 as it prepared to land in Detroit. Abdulmutallab was restrained by passengers and crew after explosives in his underpants failed to properly ignite.

Once being assigned a public defender, Abdulmutallab has been silent.

Former Gitmo detainee Ali al-Shihri was released to work at his family's furniture store in Saudi Arabia. Instead he went to a training camp for al Qaeda and now leads training efforts. At least one other Gitmo detainee has done the same.

Despite this information, President Obama has announced there will be no change in the plan to release dozens more of the detainees. This includes returning other detainees similar to al-Shihri's situation and background.

They found Abdulmutallab, originally believed to have started his trip in Lagos, Nigeria, actually began his journey in Ghana.

The video surely should be a wake up call..but that won’t happen here until we Americans get hit hard again. Most have yet to get there eyes open.

What was disturbing for me was both Sunni and Shia may and do kill one another..but they will surely join together in a heart beat against Americans..no one should lose sight of that.
