It's Obama's Ball Now By Kathleen Parker

As the new year commences, two facts emerge: George W. Bush is officially retired as the fault-guy for the nation's ills, and Barack Obama owns the game.

Whether he wants to or not.

Every president deserves a year of grace to adapt to the job and adjust to its Himalayan learning curve. As Obama's first year ends -- almost with a bang, thanks to a lonely Nigerian who found love in jihad -- his grace period is up.

Indeed, depending on how he responds to the security breach that almost brought down a Detroit-bound flight from Amsterdam, Obama's presidency is at risk of being rendered prematurely impotent.

If Bush could be blamed for the dot-connecting inadequacies that helped enable the terrorist attacks of 9/11 eight months into his administration, then Obama can fairly be held responsible for the incompetence that allowed a disaffected jihadist to get explosive powder onto a plane.

The banality of our most recent would-be attack is almost too on-the-nose to exploit, but really. The son of a Nigerian banker, already a punch line to all who've been spammed by e-mailers alleging to be Nigerian bankers promising riches, packs his underwear with explosive material? Was this fellow computer-generated by a cartoon character?

If it weren't all so bloody horrifying, the incident would be ridiculous.

Which, come to think of it, is a fair appraisal of the Obama administration's initial performance when faced with a potentially catastrophic terrorist strike. The dots that needed connecting were all but performing the California Raisin dance. Were we ever justified in hoping for better?

The State-run Media disagrees.

"Funny I don’t recall Bush having a year grace period."

That's because he was "selected" and not "elected" (at least according to the mythology of the ACORN set).

Unfortunately this is about the 20th such declaration I’ve read. The lib media hasn’t gotten the memo yet.

“...depending on how he responds to the security breach...”

He won’t fire Janet Incompetano because that would be an admission that he made a mistake appointing her in the first place. No, he is busy fixing the shortcomings created by Bush (despite the fact that the system worked fine when the president WAS Bush) and the media is happy with that. And the sheeple go Bbbaaaaaaaa...

LOL! They attacked Bush immediately, delayed his ability to appoint his Cabinet and threw everything off-schedule with their lawsuits so that when Bush arrived in office he was already at a significant disadvantage.

He rose to the challenge, and they continued to attack, stopping for about 2 weeks after 9/11 because they obviously had been living in a fool’s paradise and were stunned by it. But that didn’t last long. And this was only in the first year. The first 8 months, actually.

That's like saying that after more than 12 years of FDR's presidency, Herbert Hoover was officially retired as the fault-guy for nation's ills...

“Barack Obama owns the game...whether he wants it or not.”

Nonsense. Reality has nothing to do with the perceptions of the electorate.

As long as President Bush is characterized as a moron, anything bad that befalls mankind will be his fault. The press and Liberal Democrats will repeat it incessantly until it is “truth” and 2010 will be nothing but a Liberal win “because those conservatives are such bible-thumping, ignorant, gun-loving morons”.

IMHO

This woman will never regain whatever respect she had before she started loving Obama and hating Palin.

It's over, Kathleen. Put down the pen.

Yep I agree it isObama’s game now unfortunatly his adminstartion has relied on “blame Bush’ for so long they don’t seem to understand this fact yet. IMHO if they continue trying it the more support they will lose.

Selected, not elected.

I just about blew up at work recently when I heard a left winger say that. I am silent no more.

I told him the vote count never changed, and they never found the votes that gore needed to win, no matter how many times it was counted. That every major newspaper was looking to get the votes for gore, and they never got them. That the supreme court said they had to stop counting.

I told him third world dictators recount until they win. We dont.

No, Move On was birthed during the Clinton impeachment. They wanted us to censure him and then “Move On” without impeaching him. Of course we can thank the spineless Senate for leaving him in office. (Sound familiar?)

Stalin said it best ...

"It's not who votes that counts, its who counts the votes."

But unless we repeal the 15th Amendment and remove the communist judges from the voting process you can expect the franchise to mean less and less. ACORN and its ilk will insist.

To see what the final outcome looks like, check out a country like Venezuela or Iran. That is what lies in store for us unless we return to a system that limits the franchise in a reasonable way.

But where are we headed? Motor Voter and more.

The extraordinary support for the centrist Obama has abated indefinitely.

Now, it’s all about political strategy and tactics.

Just for the historical record we should be glad the Senate left Clinton in office. If he had been removed, Gore would have been the incumbent in 2000 and eligible for election in his own right. He no doubt would have won, as a "reconciliation" candidate (Can't we all just get along?")and god only knows what history would have been like after 9/11 with that deranged lunatic at the helm.
