The suicide bombing on a CIA base in Afghanistan last week was carried out by a Jordanian doctor who was an al-Qaida double agent, Western intelligence officials told NBC News.

Initial reports said that the attack, which killed seven CIA officers, was carried out by a member of the Afghan National Army.

According to Western intelligence officials, the perpetrator was Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, 36, an al-Qaida sympathizer from the town of Zarqa, which is also the hometown of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian militant Islamist responsible for several devastating attacks in Iraq.

Al-Balawi was arrested by Jordanian intelligence more than a year ago. However, the Jordanians believed that al-Balawi had been successfully reformed and brought over to the American and Jordanian side, setting him up as an agent and sending him off to Afghanistan and Pakistan to infiltrate al-Qaida. His specific mission, according to officials, was to find and meet Ayman al Zawahiri, al-Qaida’s No. 2, also a physician.

However, the Al-Jazeera Web site quoted a Taliban spokesman who said al-Balawi misled Jordanian and U.S. intelligence services for a year. The spokesman, Al-Hajj Ya'qub, promised to release a video confirming his account of the attack.

Move one step removed.
WHO THE H IN THE “WESTERN INTELLIGENCE AGENCY”, would make this information available to the anti-american MSNBC.

I tell you that we have moles in our agencies. PERIOD.

Although MSNBC has been providing the Jihadist info for a long time.

I’m sorry for the CIA people who were killed, performing a dangerous job. But I must say I agree with those who have said that it’s not very good trade craft, admitting a double agent to a meeting without searching him first.

The FBI has had a number of Muslim double agents who turned out to be working for the other side. Some of them were apparently involved in the OTC bombing.

It is extremely difficult to be sure that a Muslim double agent is really working for you, and not the enemy. So you would think it advisable to take elementary precautions.

The CIA is PO’d with Obama about this. And rightly so. But I think they need to take a good look at themselves, as well. The story was that the CIA was completely incompetent at finding Saddam or any of his top people when we invaded Iraq, and the job only got done when military intelligence took over from them.

They have been politicized, and should now perhaps be wondering whether it was a smart idea, shilling for the left and undermining Bush and every other Republican president. Because Obama and Holder are not their friends.

1. Catch a Jihadi.

2. Wring every last drop of information from him by whatever means necessary.

3. Kill him.

It’s the only safe way to deal with this threat.

Well, I guess we can take this to mean that OBL's BFF is still alive?

Do you one better:

“...Washington Post says it proves a partnership exists between the US and Jordanian intelligence services in fighting al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups in several parts of the world....”

I am surprised the NYT’s is not leading the way.

The way it ought to be:

To any supposed Muslim ally:

“We trust you. And we trust your wife, 3 children, 6 Aunts and 7 Uncles. We also trust your Grandparents and cousins. We trust them and WE KNOW WHERE THEY LIVE just in case we need to reach out to them for any reason. Did we say we trusted you?”

its possibnle that al-Balawi was a legit mole until being turned by AQ and who made him put on the vest or his family
would suffer.

also the info released to the MSM is likely carefully vetted
so as to mislead AQ (at least I hope it is)..

I’ve been saying right along that we have some deep moles...I’m also guessing that one of the CIA folks killed was a mole.

This is extremely damaging. While our agents have been playing nice, Al-Qaeda have been infiltrating our intelligence. They are laughing their asses off now because they know that every informant we have will be exposed. The CIA will have to pull them from their assignments just to further vet them and then Al-Qaeda will know who they are due to their absence.
A simple failure to search has probably blown years of CIA infiltration into terrorist groups because there is now a loss of the trust factor.

First off, I would be suspicious of anyone from Zarqawi’s hometown, Zarqa, Jordan. Secondly, I would make sure I had a proctologist at the gate everytime he came into camp for a visit. A Zarqa, Jordan native? He’d get a couple of extra layers of security before he entered the perimeter.

It is a very strange story, with many ramifications. I remember reading last week that a “Jordanian officer” had been killed in Afghanistan. They made it sound like he was working with the US there. But it turns out to be this fellow. The fact that the story is now leaking also shows a lack of control.

unless this is all a very effective op of a quadruple agent and it’s all just a show to get someone even closer to UBL and AZ. Do we know for sure anyone was really killed? Have any bodies been produced? Any photos or footage from the scene? Aside from the media reports how we do what really happened? So the King showed up at a funeral? Could have been an empty casket. Maybe they even told the victim’s families and they think it really happened then 6 months later when UBL or AZ is dead or captured they say “btw, your husband/wife is still alive, you can talk to him now. sorry, you had to believe it really happened. this was the only way.”. I’ve seen that scenario in many a movie or book.

Is it possible that we have no clue what happened. That the agency leaked this story and the media jumped on it(possibly even aware of its significance based on a personal request from Obama himself)and this is just what we wanted AQ to think happened. In order to achieve some unspecified outcome down the road? That this is all part of a larger deception?

Or have I read too many thrillers?
