Experts: Cold snap doesn't disprove global warming
Associated Press ^ | 1/6/2010 | MALCOLM RITTER

Beijing had its coldest morning in almost 40 years and its biggest snowfall since 1951. Britain is suffering through its longest cold snap since 1981. And freezing weather is gripping the Deep South, including Florida's orange groves and beaches.

Whatever happened to global warming?

Such weather doesn't seem to fit with warnings from scientists that the Earth is warming because of greenhouse gases. But experts say the cold snap doesn't disprove global warming at all — it's just a blip in the long-term heating trend.

"It's part of natural variability," said Gerald Meehl, a senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo. With global warming, he said, "we'll still have record cold temperatures. We'll just have fewer of them."

Agreed. He’s not an “expert” on anything other than mind-blowing stupidity.

Oh, but warming is not natural at all. Nope....what an ass!

With global warming, he said, "we'll still have record cold temperatures. We'll just have fewer of them."

Technically, that's probably a true statement. If temperature were a steady state system, we'd have fewer record lows - and highs - because we have more historical data. Ever stop to realize that the first year they took data, we had 365 record lows and 365 record highs?

The following year, probably half that many. After 100 years of data collection, there should be about 3.65 record highs (and lows) per year. After 200 years, again, about half that many.

It is obvious to me that the actual temperatures since 98 compared to the predicted data is enough to invalidate their model. I'd think that would be the news story of the year.

it's just a blip in the long-term heating trend. "It's part of natural variability,"

And global warming is just part of natural variability, too.

While it was started as documentation of the ClimateGate Swindle, I have plenty about The Coming Ice Age, err, Global Warming, err, Climate Change, err, what we used to call "having weather", too-- click the picture, goto the last "page," and scroll back:

"Hadley CRU has apparently been hacked –[epic fraud?]"

Click the picture:

And yes, it is a swindle- a fraud and a cheat and a scam-- a deliberately designed construct intended to con you out of things you hold dear-- money, and prosperity, and freedom... and a few other things, as well.

A cold snap doesn’t disprove, but a warm snap proves.

Settled science.

re: won’t stick

Even so, a shot of Main St. at Disney World with the castle in the background and snow falling in the foreground would be neat.

With global warming, he said, “we’ll still have record cold temperatures

Sounds perfectly logical to me.
Up is down, black is white, in is out, good is bad, hot is cold, blah, blah, blah.

The only real Global Warming emanates from the gas-bags of the politically correct morons who continue to support this religious cult masquerading as science.

I think of them more as a political cult. Their goal is to destroy our way of life.

““It’s part of natural variability”

Um... yeah but... couldn’t natural variability explain... sigh”

Large amounts of grant money will preclude common sense and reasoning skills from being used.

I watched George Orwell’s “1984” a few nights ago. It seems a lot less like fiction these days.

George Orwell wasn't a novelist, he wrote prophecy in novel format...

Mornin’, Swampy! Woohoo! It’s actually 33 here! First time in days! Weatherman says we “might” get a little snow. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Last time he said that—with a cold front headed up the east coast from Fla—was in ‘89. We got a foot of snow and had no power/water for a week.

That’s it! I’m headed for the store to get toilet paper and bread and milk! LOL

Gee, I don’t see a lot of “natural variability” in the hockey stick graph. In fact, isn’t the whole point of AGW that CO2 is such a major driver of climate that “natural variability” would just be a blip?

This is the social scientific method in action: Develop a hypothesis. Test it against (often sparse and questionably-obtained) data. If the hypothesis passes the test, declare the hypothesis to be the unquestionable metaphysical truth.

If it fails the test, throw out the data. Clearly, it’s the data that’s in error.

It hit 25 here, the pump froze even with a faucet running. I’ll leave a faucet open a lot wider tonight.

Don’t you ever sleep?! LOL

Sorry about your pump. Heat lamp, maybe? It’s been in the teens/20’s here every night for a week. Sposed to get about 15 tonight. Sigh. If I wanted to be this cold, I’d move NORTH!

I'm surprised last winter did not wake these fools up, well if this winter doesn't wake them up next winter, even colder then this one, will.

Looks like we are going into a serious colder period hopefully not an ice age(12F to 15F drop lasting 100,000 years), just a mini ice age (5F-8F drop of 50-100 years) caused by a solar minimum of the same duration. Excellent time to start a home garden.
