That is cool to be able to see something on TV and say, “I lived there”.

Summer of 2008 we flew back to New York to see a baseball exhibit at a New York museum. We met up with a guy who used to be a batboy for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 40’s when my dad was playing. He admired my dad so he met us and took us on a tour of Brooklyn. We went down into the projects that used to be Ebbets Field. We saw where he lived and we actually found the place where my mom and dad lived when he was playing ball.

Very cool. Went to Coney Island to watch a Cyclones game, my dad’s uniform is in the Brooklyn Dodgers HOF at the ballpark. Ate a dog at Nathan’s (not all that impressive, IMHO), and went to an authentic Jewish deli for pastrami on Rye (now THAT was good!)

I really thought I was going to hate NYC but it was a fun 5 days. We stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel downtown and walked down to Times Square, saw Lion King, my wife shopped until she dropped. Good time for all!

I remember when you took that trip. When you took the el out to Shea you passed within a block and a half of my apt.
Was the Jewish deli Katz’s on Houston?
I was a field tech in lower Manhattan for almost twenty years and like seeing the area on Law & Order. I ended up as a cable splicer in Harlem and Washington Hts. and they show plenty from there as well.

During the transit strike in 66, the company I worked for had reserved rooms in the Roosevelt for the brass. To get us to work on Saturday, they put us peons up there when the suits went home for the weekend
