'Whites Only' Basketball League Proposed
Fox 5 Atlanta ^ | Thursday, 21 Jan 2010, 11:25 PM EST | Justin Gray

Posted on 01/22/2010 9:03:26 AM PST by SonnyBubba

The man behind a controversial whites-only professional basketball league defended his position Thursday. Don "Moose" Lewis' proposed new league has one major requirement for participation. Players in the league must be Caucasian. Lewis said the league was far from racist.

"It's all white, U.S. citizens [who were born] white," said Lewis.

The Atlanta boxing and wrestling promoter said his All-American Basketball Alliance will have teams in several southern cities and start in June.

I don’t have any problem w/ it...if we can have TV networks like BET, organizations such as the National Black Contractors Association, etc., etc., etc., why not???

Dunno about the NBAbies, but the NFL has the onerous "Rooney Rule" that says you can't hire a coach unless and until you interview a minority candidate.

If that ain't affirmative action in its worst incarnation, I don't know what is.

they would be as exciting to watch as the WNBA.

from the article-
Lewis said he’s already received hundreds of calls about his league and has even been offered a reality show.

NOW THE REAL STORY behind this ridiculous idea comes to light. I’m sure it is all about having a reality show.

Sign me up.

They can have BET, Black History Month, Brown Pride, etc.; why can’t I have a basketball league?

I remember NBA games having higher scores in the 1980’s than I see them having today. You can’t tell me it’s defense. Allen Iverson shoots 25 percent from the field, and he’s a star.

Cousy is still one of the all time greats. If rules were in place as originally defined, no player in the range of 6’8” could dribble the ball without losing it to a shorter quicker guy stealing it.

How many black people have won the high jump competition at the Olympics?

There was a proposal for a height-limited professional basketball league some years back. I think Bob Cousy was pushing the idea. IIRC, the height limit was 6’4” or something like that. Would have been interesting. I might have watched.

Well, in the first place, this sounds like a hoax, so it’s all a moot point.

However, I seem to remember a couple recent US Olympic teams full of “African Americans” who got their a$$e$ handed to them by European teams.

As far as the “baskets at 8 feet” crack, I’m not buying it—but just curious—do you make similar blanket statements about, say, black people’s intellect, literacy, or work ethic?

It would be a lot more entertaining then the current crap called the NBA.

Plus there are a lot of fantastic players that are shorter than 6’6.

To get more whites in basketball there needs to be some rule changes, like a basket by a white should be worth at least 4 or 5 points.

Because freedom of association is only guaranteed if you meet politically correct ideology apparently... I mean heaven forbid folks fundamental rights conflict with someone elses view of how they SHOULD behave.

I do not think it is raciest at all... if this is raciest maybe we need affirmative action ON sport teams so the players look like the community they represent..

Tell you what: Here's a team of twelve white Americans that I think would hold its own against anybody:

C: Bill Walton, George Mikan, Dave Cowens (C/PF)
PF: Bob Pettit, Kevin McHale
SF: Larry Bird, Rick Barry, John Havlicek (SF/SG)
SG: Jerry West, Pete Maravich
PG: John Stockton, Bob Cousy

Maybe this team would not engage in rampant traveling and palming the ball. No tattoos, hanging on the rim, or trash-talking, either.

Only if we're lucky. The shot clock ruined Pro ball first, then College.

I loved basketball when brains and discipline were valuable.

If this was real, I’d have no problem with it just as I have no problem with dwarf basketball, women’s basketball, wheelchair basketball, mentally retarded basketball (Special Olympics), kids basketball and seniors basketball.
