Wow: Obama administration says “Taliban must take legitimate role” in Afghanistan

For all that our boys have fought and died for, we’re now giving legitimacy to the same enemy we went there defeat? Imagine how our troops overseas must be feeling about the news that their Commander in Chief wants to legitimize the very enemy they’re trying to defeat. Sad…

NY Times - The United States recognizes that the Taliban are now part of the political fabric of Afghanistan, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said here on Friday, but the group must be prepared to play a legitimate role before it can reconcile with the Afghan government.

That means, Mr. Gates said, that the Taliban must

This has been the Kenya Muslim’s plan all along. Increase troop strength in Afghanistan. Claim that Al Qaeda is the enemy, not the Taliban. Declare Al Qaeda defeated and claim victory. Withdraw troops and install the Taliban as at least a partial solution in a coalition government.

Gates was fully responsible for removing the top officers at Walter Reed hospital back during the supposed scandal. Those two might well have been able to deal with then Captain Hasan had they fully understood his involvement in the Washington Post's investigation of the matter (recall, it all focused on activities in/around the mental health outpatient operation, which is where Hasan worked).

Alas, Gates sacked the top guys, the junior officers were scared witless and gave Hasan ratings he didn't deserve, and the rest is history.

So, were you referring to Gates or to Goober? A good case can be made with either one that "they" are part of the Taliban counteroffensive on the domestic front and cannot be trusted.

It’s conventional wisdom that when one finds themself stuck in a real deep hole, it’s a good idea to stop digging.

But, Obama and his ilk have no wisdom, and I think they are heading toward making it all the way to China. They must be the saddest and most idiotic bunch of all time.

This is the equivalent of declaring Methodists to be part of the American political fabric. It is true. Methodists did not rise to power and destroy the society but the analogy still holds.

It is the task of the Afghan elders to bring the Taliban to heel. It is the task of the allied forces to make the place safe so the elders can gain control and act.

I heard tonight that the Afghan government was outlawing the use of amonium nitrate fertilizer. Obviously its because its being used in bombs but I think outlawing its use is going to backfire because it will make it even harder to farm.

If the farmers can’t farm, who are they going to turn to for a source of income?

First step toward partition? There is a large chasm between the primitive tribesmen in the ‘countryside’ and the ‘civilized’ part in the North.

And which legitimate role would that be? Beating women and burning their schools down? Blowing up priceless, historic Buddhist carvings? Stoning people to death? Beheading their political enemies? The bad judgment of this administration is criminal and dangerous. How can we even be thinking of treating these creatures like they’re “legitimate”?

We have supported ruthless dictators, thugs and other reprobates privately, but this might be the first time in the modern era where an American president has called for reconciliation with a regime that has engaged in such blatant violations of human rights. Not only can women not vote in a Taliban government, but they can't read either. Where is NOW and all the other feminists in the world standing up for women who actually need some support, and not just to murder their unborn children.
