WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama and top congressional Democrats insist they will push ahead with efforts to overhaul health care, though they aren't explaining how they will proceed in that uphill fight.
The president acknowledged Friday that the effort ran into a "bit of a buzz saw" of opposition. And a leading member of his party suggested Congress slow it down on health care, a sign of eroding political will in the wake of Tuesday's Republican election upset in Massachusetts.
Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., who ushered the overhaul legislation through the Senate's health committee last year after the death of his friend, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, said Obama and lawmakers could "maybe take a breather for a month, six weeks."
Just a week ago, the health legislation had appeared on the cusp of passage after Obama threw himself into marathon negotiations with congressional leaders to work out differences between the House and Senate bills.
"There are things that have to get done. This is our best chance to do it. We can't keep on putting this off," Obama said Friday at a town hall meeting in Elyria, Ohio, warning listeners that spiraling medical costs threaten to bankrupt them and the country unless Congress acts.
"I am not going to walk away just because it's hard," the president said.

It’s going to be a Dem Slaughter in November.
What the heck is a bit of a buzz saw? For being the newest smartest man in the world, replacing Bill Clinton, Barack Obama seems incapable of using English as it is practiced in normal circles. This goes along with "inartful", which I heard him use and Juan Williams repeat. This must be part of the stuff that Harry Reid was talking about.

fixed.
The people, “YES, WE CAN!”
My greatest fear was that these clowns would possibly move to center right for a few months to win in November. They’re not cathing on and that’s a good thing.
I want health care reform, too. I want Tort Reform so my doctor will treat me without fear of litigation.
I want to let the Free Market work so there is true competition and we can buy insurance across state lines, or fund it ourselves if we’re self-employed.
I want the government fraud, waste and abuse curtailed in the system we have now.
I have no problem subsidizing Grandma and Grandpa if they’re not covered under MediCare, et al. I have NO problem helping the mentally ill. I have some problems with druggies and boozers, but if we can save their lives and turn them around, so be it. I have NO problem funding vaccinations and exams for uninsured little kids.
I DO have a problem with giving benefits of ANY kind to illegals. And now we’re to have hundreds of thousand of Haitians coming ashore? Yeesh!
Until then? Any changes either side makes will only mean more pain in the pocketbook for ALL of us.
But nobody ever listens to me; especially my elected REPRESENTATIVES.
0 now speaking in the 3rd person...
Pietro thinks 0 is ever closer to fishtailing off the road.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different outcome.
The Democrat’s ruling elite are ga-ga crazy.
My GOD!
They did not learn a DAMNED THING!
Cheap_Hessian agrees with Pietro.

No one ever links the illegals to the high cost of medicine, education, high unemployment etc. I can’t figure that out. PC?
Maybe now that JD Hayworth is in the AZ race, some one will bring that to light.
The Obamao brilliance continues to be underwhelming.
Do NOT count your chickens!
I am sick and tired of hearing what a “cake walk” the republicans will have this November.
November is light years away and anything can happen.
Don't jinx the prospects that Conservatives will be elected in droves this year ... please!
The libs have thousands of tricks up their sleeves yet to be pulled.
Well put. We should all copy and paste to send to our Senators and Representatives. I am sick and tired of being accused of racism, homophobia, etc., simply because I follow the law (and expect others in this country to live within the law)and have standards.
Andy Stern (SEIU), who more or less lives at the WH, put them on notice yesterday that if they don’t push on with health care, they’re not going to get SEIU support in Nov. So they’re between a rock and a hard place. To appease Stern, they at least have to keep going through the motions even if it’s all for show.
Although ... I hate how the left uses wordplay and calls it health CARE reform. No, what we need is health insurance reform, implementing some of the points you mention (as well as eliminating mandates, etc.). Our health care is the best in the world, and there's no need to reform it.
But, of course, we know it's not about reform at all (that Alinsky code word), but about control.
Except that it ain't for show...
And here I was thinking that it was spiraling government debt that would bankrupt the country. Silly me.
keep digging a hole for yourselves.
Reserve your seats at this summer's town hall meetings now.
... oh wait - the house has to run for re-election, don't they, meaning they can't hide!
Man, this is gonna be fun!
Unless of course, they blow up something in an attempt to get everyone to rally around the 0.
