Redistribution of wealth; car owners tend to be haves, non-car owners tend to be have-nots.

Ride a horse? lol

I can’t wait to get out of California. These nitwits in charge lost their minds a long time ago.”

Geee- and a few drops of oil on the pavement is nothing compared to what one of my horses would leave behind. Wonder how they would like that?

Animal rights groups would then declare that there would have to be water tanks installed everywhere so we could use our horses.

How about they just revoke all the free-parking privileges of the government hot-shots and privileged class at the paid-for-parking stalls?

That would help the taxpayer a heck of a lot more...and then maybe that taxpayer would be a little more interested in biking around or hiking if they didn't have to work so long paying for these deadbeats...

IIRC, the legislators all get...(drum roll)...

Free Parking!

So, what's needed is a proposition that...

1. undoes any restrictions on free parking; and,

2. however ELIMINATES free parking (or parking in any form of perquisite or compensation) for LEGISLATORS (and their staffs).

.

Calif voters would pass this in a heartbeat.

Nothing to do with the environment or other “costs” - just trying to push more people into the failing urban transit systems to keep the money following to the public sector unions.

To feed the ever-increasing cost of pay and benefits, transit agencies are cutting routes and raising fares. Even if you can find a route that takes you close to where you want to go, the commute time is going up significantly. On the other hand, auto commuting times are getting better due to so many folks being out of work. So commuters are doing the rational thing and moving out of mass transit and going back to cars, even in the Bay area.

Libs are pushing “free parking” issue as one of the longer term solutions to getting people out of cars and into more expensive mass trans. The short term solution being invoked is raising tolls on bridges and tunnels to raise the cost of commuting by auto.

Bottom line is, when I can go to some place like Arizona and pay $180,000 for a 5 bedroom home with a pool that actually has a full front and back yard. Plus not having to deal with the rediculously high taxes and overcrowding of the freeways and everything else here. Not to mention the instability of the education system due to the government sucking money out of it whenever they see fit. I honestly can’t wait to get the hell out of here.
