Newser) – Moderate Mark Kirk has won Illinois’ Republican Senate primary, blowing away two conservative opponents backed by tea-party contingents. The congressman has 56% of the vote with more than 82% of precincts reporting—giving him a 37% lead over Patrick Hughes. Analysts predicted that a clear Kirk victory would take much of the steam out of the tea-party movement.

On the Democratic side, the Chicago Tribune reports, state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias looks close to clinching the nomination, setting up a fight with Kirk for the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.

What in the hell happenned here?

Once he wins Obama's seat, he will be declared by the media as a foaming-at-the-mouth far-right extremist.

No, the steam isn’t running out of the teaparty movement. Don’t be ridiculous.

“Steam Running out of the Tea Part Movement?”

Hardly. It’s Illi-f***ing-nois! There are just some places a true conservative can’t win. Illinois is one of them.

I'm crushed.

Although he lost, I pray Patrick Hughes will continue to fight for the great state of Illinois.

Moderate? How can they call him a moderate? To be called liberal on abortion do you have to favor forced abortions?

* Support woman’s right to choose; along with family planning.
* Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines.
* Voted YES on allowing human embryonic stem cell research.
* Voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions.
* Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.
* Voted NO on funding for health providers who don’t provide abortion info.
* Voted NO on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad.
* Voted NO on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes.
* Rated 100% by NARAL, indicating a pro-choice voting record.

The ONLY upside is that Kirk has the best chance to “steal “Obama’s” seat”.

“Something wrong about his eyes that I can’t quite place.”

The eye on his right side appears to be an open hole. No eyeball. Just an empty socket.

"What in the hell happenned here? "

I don't know how Illinois is set up, but maybe there was some of that cross-party voting, letting the dems vote for the most liberal RINO...like they did for McCain.
