'Good without God' billboards now up in Sacramento...

"Are you good without God? Millions are" is the message on 10 new billboards in the Sacramento, CA area. The billboards, which are part of a nationwide campaign that began last year, were put up by the Sacramento Area Coalition of Reason. It's an umbrella organization for a variety of groups including the First Atheist Church of True Science, Humanist Association of the Greater Sacramento Area, Sacramento Area Skeptics, and Atheists and Other Freethinkers.

Sponsors of the "good without God" billboards say it's not an attack on theism but, instead, a message directed to their own community.

"It's a way of reaching out to people," said Fred Edwords, national director of United Coalition of Reason (quoted in the Sacramento Bee). "Many folks who think like us think they are the only ones." "We non-theists are your family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers," said Rachael Harrington, coordinator of the Sacramento group, in a news release. "We're just like you, except we don't believe in a supreme being. It's about time we were equally free to be open about our views."

Atheism is most definitely a religion and they are proselytizing.

If humanity knew how truly good God is, then the entire idea that they can be good apart from Him would be seen as a hellish joke.

If God truly doesn’t exist, then they have nothing to worry about. They can do anything they want without answering to anyone. But.....God help them if they’re wrong.

People balk at the idea of being heavenly.

In support of your post...

The question, in response to any proclamation of “goodness” is

“by whose standard?”

Does it mean they are happy/satisfied, without God? Or does it mean they are good people, even without God?

Funny thing is they dopn’t even know what *GOOD* is.

I am sure they think a Ravenous Homosexual who smokes Pot all day but works at the Soup Kitchen is *GOOD* millions like him are.....
Sad times..:(

"We're just like you, except we don't believe in a supreme being. It's about time we were equally free to be open about our views."

Except that we are not EQUALLY free - Christianity is being (has been) assailed from all directions an in all quarters of life. It has gotten to the point where WE are not allowed to have any discussion in public regarding God, Jesus, the Bible, etc, without risking condemnation or even arrest (e.g., the man arrested for talking about God to three people in a Mall in an area where such "free speech" was suppose to be permitted).

"Good" is a moral evaluation. So by what standard do they make the definitive claim that millions are "good"? Given the rejection of an objective moral authority all they can do is appeal to their personal preference. So is Jeffery Dahlmer "good" if he thinks so from his personal preference?

It is sickening that the atheists have successfully hijacked the terms “humanists” and “reason”.

Their obvious insinuation is that only the dweebs, the contemptible, the feckless “need God” to be “good.” The rest just go on boldly “being good.” It’s the devil’s old fantasy.

I’m just curious, if you were an atheist why would you spend tens of thousands of dollars promoting atheism unless you were against God and people that choose to worship?

Seems to me that in California and Sacramento we’ve seen exactly where this has gotten them.

You have a bankrupt state, promotion of legalized drugs, destruction of the nuclear family by government intervention of more kinds than I can count, hordes of illegal aliens draining the system that “must” be supported because of “humanitarian” concerns and promotion of homosexual marriage and liestyle (Yes, that is not a typo.).

It seems to me that millions of people are not okay without God and instead placing their values on the goodwill and subjective morality of humanists.
