A lethal business model targets Middle America (heroin from Mexico)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 2/14/10 | Sam Quinones

Immigrants from an obscure corner of Mexico are changing heroin use in many parts of America.

Farm boys from a tiny county that once depended on sugar cane have perfected an ingenious business model for selling a semi-processed form of Mexican heroin known as black tar.

Using convenient delivery by car and aggressive marketing, they have moved into cities and small towns across the United States, often creating demand for heroin where there was little or none. In many of those places, authorities report increases in overdoses and deaths.

This is happening in small towns across America. Kids go to a party and pop an Oxycontin pill for kicks. Those pills are too expensive to keep taking, so some dealers pull a bait and switch to cheaper heroin. This is a very dangerous and serious addiction.

Just “popping” an O pill won’t do much. Crushing and snorting are the thing.

There is usually no way to assay the potency or purity of something offered on the street. A dealer can get rid of a troublesome customer that way.

This problem is in everyone’s back yard.

My son’s friend started with Oxy then went to Heroin. He tried to get my son to take him to score a brick of the big H. He wound up in jail, rehab and probation. Sad story. Needless to say, my son is forbidden to associate with him.

It’s happening to young people in their 20’s not just high school kids.

Parents, just when you thought you were out of the woods.
Keep your eyes and ears wide open!

heroin OD is an epidemic, more people than most can imagine have been and will be touched by this, and these murderers are deliberately targeting young people whose brain function of judgement is not matured

His former friend. The scary thing is that his dependency problems transpired within a matter of months, not years.

Herion is so linked to narcoterrorism that the US needs to get serious about penalties for dealing it. Make it worth no one’s while.

The sad truth is how these dealers hide. When law enforcement gets too intense, they hide among hard working illegal immigrants in rural areas. Farm workers who don’t snitch.
