(Newser) Claiming an impeccable source, blogger Rich Vail reports tonight that Democrat Barbara Mikulski will follow Evan Bayhs lead and not seek re-election to her Maryland Senate seat this fall.
Vail, a Tea Party supporter behind blog The Vail Spot, says the 73-year-old Mikulski has been slow to recover from an ankle injury suffered last year, and has told her doctor she plans to retire.

Better to go out on a ‘high note’ than to fight it out in a tough campaign and get trounced.
I hope she doesn’t trip on a splinter going out and fall into a crack. That would be tragic.
...I don’t think she ever recovered from the mugging she got in front of her house in downtown Baltimore.
like dominoes.....
Like Bayh, I think a lot of it is knowing that Capitol Hill won’t be their playground anymore come November. Even for those who can win re-election easily.
Better to bow out now, after the usual whining about “partisanship” and “incivility”.
Someone has hypothesized that the mugging was actually a game of deck-a-dyke. ;-)
Actually the ones leaving are actually Republicans at least by action and the National Democratic Party is FINALLY ridding itself of disguised Right Wingers..
Pretty effective disguise, if you ask me...
Something smells about democrats on the bail wonder if Obama&Co. have ace up the sleeve?.
Behold a pathetic joke that ever held political office. OMG! We The People vow to clean the sewer that is this Congress and this White House come November and again in 2012.
Even the Crack of Doom isn't large enough to swallow all that.
Kinda makes ya think, why would someone who lives like royalty on our dime want to give up the lifestyle of the rich and famous? And they are giving up a lot of power when their party is in the majority.

It’s highly unlikely that a republican can win that seat, but it sure would be nice.
Michael Steele please pick up the white phone.
I hope this is true. She threw me and a buddy of mine out of her office in Annapolis years ago. We were soldiers, anyway she was one angry b*tch.
I hope it true but, its still not on any local news here in MD and this would be a very big story.
They are tired of Rahm’s “style” of partisanship. He’s a thug.
It CAN be done - look at Scott Brown.
There are a few possible candidates that would have a decent chance. Our ex-governor (Ehrlich) is either going to run for the Senate seat or challenge the current governor (Omalley) for the governor seat. Ehrlich would have a decent chance at either race, leaving the other race without a Republican candidate. His wife has a decent reputation and could possibly make a run. Michael Steele would be competitive. But once you get beyond them there isn’t anyone with big name recognition. But nor is there a democrat with a great reputation. I’d bet Stenny Hoyer makes a go for it.
Who has the flying pigs gif - if there was ever a thread that warrented it - this is it!!
Pat McDonough seemed to be talking about running for governor.
Run Bob run. Bob should go for the Senate seat if this is true. Even if he defeats MOM he would be an instant lame duck governor based on our state house. IMO he has a better chance at winning the Senate seat against Stenny vs MOM.
I wonder how big her campaign chest is right now? I think she gets to keep it if she retires.
Can it be a GOP pickup.
They are falling like leaves in autumn!
If Senator Milulski drops out of the Senate, she will join a growing list of Democrats who are shocked and dismayed by the whipping the Democrat Party will take this November, created and honed to perfection by Anti-American, Socialist/Communist/Facist, POTUS Barack Hussein Obama. They want no part of it, and are truly ashamed of the once great Democrat Party. If the Dems had any brains and common sense they would broom Obama and all his minions right now, either by forcing his resignation or impeaching him!!!
“Hmmm, interesting. Could this by why Bob has been coy about whether he’s running for governor? “
I wish.
This Mikulski story is still not on the local news here.
Do you think Pat McDonough has enough name recognition statewide?
Please let it be so. If there is something below politically worthless, surely she defines it.
And one would be stupid to think a republican could win the swimmers seat in the peoples republic of Massachusetts.....oh wait!!!!
What has the former governor been doing since he lost his re-election? Can he win again in a State wide race? If he has a chance I’ll support him.
obummer has sabra rattled that he will now invoke executive orders to ram some of his cap & trade, “health” bill (aka Takeover Stealth Bill) etc,. down our throats - increasingly neutering Congress and the Senate.
He and his Chicago Thugs (controlled by their puppeteers behind the curtain) are hell bent to take over this country no matter the means. They hit the ground running to ram everything through before We the People caught on.
However, they hit a speed bump: We the People.
Rather than listen, they rev their engines and, calling We the People mobs, terrorists and enemies of The People, continue headlong to push their Socialist agenda, the devil take the hindmost...even in the face of the all but certain House Clearing at the poles in Nov. They are willing to throw the rats under the bus to achieve their coup.
They are closer to takeover than at any time in the past 40 years - or more. Last Nov., they saw the bright glow of victory on the horizon. but they knew they'd have to rush things through...and counted on the sleeping and silent majority not to catch on in time to stop them.
It hasn't quite worked according to plan. the Silent Majority is Roaring and FOX News spills the beans - end running the SMSM (Socialist MSM.)
Seeing their window of opportunity closing fast with Nov. roaring over the horizon, are they planning the unthinkable? Is the reason obummer and gang continue to forge ahead with their Socialist agenda as if no one has objected because, regardless of what portends for Nov., they aren't worried because they can - and may? - declare an emergency, even if an “economic” emergency and enact martial law?
Unthinkable?
There are executive orders passed in the 1970’s that allows for the president to declare martial law - a state of emergency “,,,that is not defined.”
excerpt:
“Executive Order 11921: (Ford June 11, 1976) Assigning Emergency Preparedness Function Changes to Federal Departments and Agencies Provides that the President can declare a state of emergency that is not defined, and Congress cannot review the action for six months."
Declared in the months leading up to Nov. would mean no elections.
Think this gang in the WH wouldn't do it? Think a gang of street thugs led by a Narcissist wouldn't do it? Think it couldn't happen in the U.S.A.? Do an overview of the rise and fall of countries over the past few millenia. Take a look at the personalities of the despots who brought down great civilizations.
Have some of the rats been given evidence that this WH gang will invoke executive order #11921 before Nov. in order to complete the takeover their masters have worked so many decades for?
While we smile with glee at the evidence of a thumping of rats in Nov. and now at the surprising ship jumping of rats not even in danger - we might want to look behind the curtain. (These new defections may be because there are some things even some of the rats don't want to a part of.)
Which Ace?
It’s Michael Moore in DRAG!!
except that seat will likely stay blue...my relatives in Maryland are pretty well brainwashed (they call it The People’s Republic for a reason...)
“What has the former governor been doing since he lost his re-election? Can he win again in a State wide race? If he has a chance Ill support him.”
He is currently working in a Baltimore law firm and also has a radio talk show. He has more than a chance. I hope he wants to take it.
>With 20 years of executive and policy-making experience, Bob is a trusted advisor to the business community on local, state and federal affairs. Having served as Governor, U.S. Congressman, state legislator, and civil litigator, he counsels clients on an array of government matters, with particular expertise in health care, finance, and economic development. <
Why would someone who lives like royalty on our dime want to give up the lifestyle of the rich and famous? May be there are some things even some of the rats don’t want to be a part of.
Dots connected.
ABANDON SHIP!!!
And one would be stupid to think a republican could win the swimmers seat in the peoples republic of Massachusetts.....oh wait!!!!
Well, I know Maryland better than I know Mass, but I don’t expect lightening to strike twice in another Democrat stronghold. I hope I’m wrong after fifty years of living next door and spending a great deal of my time there. I love the state and hate their politics.
“Can it be a GOP pickup.”
If this is true then yes, former Gov. Bob Ehrlich could win this seat.
Another freeper suggested that Ehrlich’s chances are better against O’Malley for the governorship. Do you agree?
I don’t see Steny Hoyer going for it. He’s already pretty much running the House. Put another way, what would you rather be? The number 2 guy in the House or a junior senator?
“I dont see Steny Hoyer going for it. Hes already pretty much running the House. Put another way, what would you rather be? The number 2 guy in the House or a junior senator?”
What about this Dem.
THOMAS V. MIKE MILLER, JR., President of MD State Senate
But if the sh*t does hit the fan, I expect Texas to invoke it's State's Constitutional right to secede - I hope y'all are prepared for the influx of “refugees” from the states.
Myself, I hope my son who now lives there, is prepared for the rest of the family to come a’knocking on his door!
Pray for our country
You're outside of my area of expertise... I live & work in south-central PA, near York. I faithfully listen to WBAL every afternoon, so I get my Maryland politics that way.
I was pretty impressed with the way Steny Hoyer was able to upset Madam Pelosi's master plan to install her mentor, the late John Murtha, as House Majority Leader. My impression -- and it could be completely wrong -- is that Steny wields a lot more power than the Media lets on. Similarly, Nancy is not nearly as powerful as some would have it.
