Boos as Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll
Politico ^ | Feb 20, 2010 | JONATHAN MARTIN & JESSICA TAYLOR

Paul's victory renders a straw poll that was already lightly contested among the likely 2012 GOP hopefuls all but irrelevant as the 74-year-old Texan is unlikely to be a serious contender for his party's nomination.

CPAC organizers were plainly embarrassed by the results, which could reduce the perceived impact of a contest that was once thought to offer a window into which White House hopefuls were favored by movement conservatives.

A spokesman for the conference rushed over to reporters following the announcement to make sure they had heard the unmistakable boos when the screen first showed Paul had won the straw poll.

2,935 votes were cast in the straw poll, the most in the history of the 37-year conference, but a fraction of the approximately 10,000 people who attended CPAC

Forty-eight percent of those who participated in the contest indicated that they were students and the divergent reaction to the results reflected the outcome.

“Why if other candidates could be voted for, and were on the agenda, why did the huge majority fail to vote? “

because it is a meaningless poll

Ron Paul specializes in sending in his bots to skew these votes. Probably the others didn’t pay it much attention. Certainly Sarah Palin, didn’t since she wasn’t there.

What's a "paulbot"?

Somebody concerned about recovering a little bit of freedom in this country?

Reon Paul will never be president. Personally, I lost respect for Romney, Thompson and the rest of the Republicans in the primaries when they suddenly dropped out f the race and supported John McCain.

There was something very fishy about the way that happened. We can thank those Republicans for the farce that was the McCain campaign.

but...but...but... I was ASSURED on the other thread that CPAC was totally owned by Romney, and they were so pro-homosexual and trying to destroy American and puppies and all things good and decent.

And then they vote for Ron Paul. This confuses me. Is Ron Paul a gay mittbot ? That would explain so much really.

It appears the CPAC convention was 48% College students.
It appears that out of 10,000 attendees, approx.2900 voted.
We will wait to hear why so few voted.
Paulbots are the people who support Ron Paul zealously.

Big tent is high maintenance good looks bs. It is not at all needed. Just look at how expensive propaganda is getting to China, building Olympic Stadiums it cannot maintain save at the cost of billions. This socialism is a disaster of expensive and mediocre art vanities. The church crashed down after such vain pursuits in decorum, but theirs employed geniuses, not retards.

Who else was there to vote for?

Huckleberry? Romneybot, who I'm sure bused in supporters again? I like Sarah Palin, but c'mon, she's got a ways to go to be a successful prez candidate.

Gingrich has turned into a blithering idiot besides being a sure loser.

Pawlenty? Thune? Jindal? Maybe, but the vast majority of people know very, very little about them.

It was very rude of the convention to boo the result, which was not forced on them. Ron Paul is wrong on some key issues, but it doesn’t make him evil.

Paul & Romney—1 & 2. Sheesh. And these same people were cheering Beck? Did they have a clue what he was saying or were they automatons programed to applaud for the cameras? What a frightening disconnect!

we need an alternative conference next year, with a straw poll ... and hold it somewhere other than D.C.

Only taxpayers can vote ... no students.
