IMHO, not progressive enough on economic things. There is this libertarian “lets go back to the good old days of Robber Barons, Trusts, child labor, unsafe working conditions, 70 hour weeks, slop pay, shoddy products, etc” edge to the GOP since about 25 years or so ago.
The only thing keeping the average republican from coming out in favor of abolishing social security is the fact that the voters would tar and feather him. Thats not conservative, that’s libertarian.

You can say what you want about McCain but he was more fiscally conservative than Bush. I guess you didn’t support him though.
