BREAKING: FBI Raids Toyota Suppliers
WXYZ ^ | 02/24/10 | Editors

Posted on 02/24/2010 12:38:07 PM PST by Kieri

(WXYZ) - The FBI is confirming raids at the offices of three Michigan auto suppliers who do work for Toyota.

Search warrants were served Tuesday evening at Yazaki North America, DENSO International and Tokai Rika. Yazaki sells electronic components and DENSO makes accelerator pedals.

Denso has released the following statement about the situation "DENSO International America, Inc. (DIAM), U.S. subsidiary of DENSO Corporation, was inspected on February 23, 2010 by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Justice in regard to U.S. antitrust laws. DIAM is cooperating with this investigation."

Tell me how I'm being naive. Please explain to me why, if Obama wanted to go after Toyota, he would do so by means of an antitrust investigation into Toyota's suppliers. If anything, wouldn't such an inquiry help Toyota??? With all due respect . . . don't be so paranoid.

IIRC, the whole Dodge Colt was a rebadged Mitsubishi. I once owned a Plymouth Champ, which was identical to the Dodge Colt. It was a Japanese import sold by Chrysler.

I get your point, but I’m not sure anyone in here is interested in logic. I have been a little pompous and I apologized for such, but this is way right wing conspiracy stuff in here. I honestly though I was as Anti-Democrat as they come, but I’m a leftist in retrospect it seems. I’m also a bit of a conspiratorialist myself, but this is too far out there for me. I will say anything is possible when government and money is at stake.

It is sad where we have got to as a human race, really. All of us, not just those in power. Maybe it has always been like this I don’t know. No wonder we need a Savour.

Yeh, I know, the only difference was the logo, but the Mitsubishi engine was reliable, and I could still tell all the neighbors I bought American.LOL

I used to laugh at the Chrysler TV commercials about buy American, because Chrysler had so many foreign components/cars.

My 1980 Mitsubishi engine was not reliable, at least in terms of the emission controls, which caused endless problems. The EGR valve would stick. The strange choke also stuck. That was before electronic fuel injection eliminated a lot of gimmicky mechanical emission-control devices. I had an early BMW which had a "gulp valve" in the air pump system, made by GM, which required frequent replacement at $20 a pop.

I've read your post (/Salute) and I would like to expound my experience,

People who drive with the left foot on the brake, and the right foot on the pedal
are asking for an accident. And I'm seeing drivers do this more often these days.

Recently I've been behind drivers who tap their brakes when there isn't any vehicle in
front of them going up an entrance ramp. I swing around and see they are on their CELL!

Many drivers these days are double footing because they are not paying attention to
the road as they should be according to most laws. (Reckless Driving)

Driving behind a double peddler is annoying, and the damage they do is worse.

I blame them for the accidents. And I am certain it's not just Toyo..

From the names it sounds as those the 3 shops were Japanese, Japanese/American owned. They provided two of the parts that have been blamed. I heard elsewhere that it was American parts that had the difficulties, not the ones made in Japan. Perhaps the FBI was seizing parts before possible evidence disappeared. Could there have been graft (inferior production) or Yakuza involvement? Or is it in fact a union sponsored ploy? Time will tell.

Answer:

Obongo--and his inner minions--hates Japan because it is :

A Parliamentary democracy with power not reliant solely upon one individual man, who is treated as a savior (although it was this way before Surrender to the West and Democracy)

Has an extremely high education and literacy level and people generally do not whine

Is antiseptically clean in so many respects, and while it has some run down areas, these are not generally the case and one can feel safe generally at night, even in such substandard limited areas off the beaten path.

Hosts US military bases and outside of Okinawa is generally supportive of the US military

Fiercely anti communist with respect to North Korea and particularly suspicious of Communist China

Has a Zero intolerance level toward illegal aliens

Inconveniently shatters the liberal-inspired "minority myth of entitlement" that non-White people somehow have it tough and an unfair break in life, as Japan is the SECOND LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD with yet a nearly 99% non-white ethnic background for the populace, teeming with hard-working and with those generally not terribly reliant upon government to solve every miniscule problem in one's life.

Discriminates in such areas have having pretty young women almost entirely on its flight attendent crews for its national carrier and other air carriers, not loud, liberal, over-entitled, unionized, over the hill PMS'ed out lesbians and effeminate men who make traveling a less than pleasurable experience.

Executes criminals and does so without much hoopla at all.

Treats homosexuality generally as a derangement if not humorous.

Has principled people in leadership who not rarely, in taking the ultimate responsibility for a major organizational failure, often take their own life rather than just say "I take full responsibility" and do nothing.

I heard part of a blurb on the radio today that they’re going to do something like discontinue the Hummer; didn’t catch all of it but the part I heard was that only 6,000 (or maybe 9,000?) were sold in all of 2009... Sounds like the American car-buying public is giving General MANager Obama a loud message.

wow... bringing up great memories... my Dad gave me his Dodge Colt when I left for the left coast after college. I drove from Kansas City to San Jose and the windows resonated at precisely 68 mph and stopped at 71. Maybe it had something to do with the melted out rear bumper from the tailpipe getting lodged in the rear bumper and slow-burning the foam inside overnight, or maybe it was just a POS from the get-go. either way, great memories! oh that, and the volare wagon with the on-the-floor stick. fine legacy of questionable auto purchase decisions in my family (including a pinto and a gran torino painted in the only scheme you should really ever consider for one :)

I would bet quite a lot that Toyota knows that almost all of these accidents are caused by driver errors. But they aren’t going to say that because that explanation won’t go over well with the US media and much of the US public. So they’re taking the long view, playing it cool, using Audi’s long-term strategy from the 80s, and just saying the cause is “unknown” and waiting for the media frenzy to subside.

I’m not sure this is going to turn into a hugely successful class action lawsuit either, because there isn’t much evidence of actual defects in Toyotas. When a trial jury hears all the evidence and testimony from the drivers and witnesses, that jury may just decide in favor of Toyota. This isn’t a tobacco lawsuit where there’s a mountain of hard evidence that smoking causes cancer and hear disease. This is probably going to end up more like the Firestone tire recall—very costly but not catastrophic for Toyota. I wouldn’t hesitate to jump into a Toyota and drive one right now.

Toyota is not like GM in any way. There quality is still excellent. There’s no doubt in my mind that almost all of the accidents blamed on “defects” are actually caused by drivers mistakenly stepping on the gas pedal instead of the brake. The same thing happened with the Audi 5000 back in the 80s and as far as I know Audi concluded there was nothing wrong with the 5000 model and drivers were just stepping on the wrong pedal.

Good choice and you will probably never have any significant problem with your Toyota. There’s no doubt in my mind that almost all of the accidents blamed on “defects” were actually caused by drivers mistakenly stepping on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.

NTSA had all the reports and records they needed to make the call to Toyota to pull those vehicles in. They were asleep at the wheel, as usual, pun intended. Now Holder is doing union thug duty for zero’s union cronies.

The net result will be the loss of non-union jobs. This is a smear machine operation, plain and simple. Honda should look out. They’re probably next.

The best thing Americans can do is NOT buy anything built by the UAW. Put the &%#@!(* out of business. They need to be put to death. They’ve gotten too big for their britches. They are too greedy and power-hungry in their collusion with the rats with whom they are joined at the hip in a symbionic relationship to our extreme detriment.

The warrants were served on business offices, not manufacturing plants. They’re probably looking for the paper trail about who knew what when about the various components that are allegedly failing.

BTW, the woman (pink suit, I think) who testified, crying, that she was nearly killed when the gas pedal stuck and she was headed toward an underpass obstruction of some sort so she called her husband to tall him she loves him? Does anyone know why she didn’t just put it in neutral or shut the ignition off?

I watched a bit of one of the FOX News shows (whatever was on just before 5 pm, some woman I didn’t recognize)... and they had for “expert analysis” a UAW guy who was simply head of one of their locals -— no suggestion that he was an engineer or at all knowledgeable about the details, just that it was convenient for the UAW to bash Toyota. If that’s the best that FoxNews can do on this issue then it’s all sham on all fronts.

Years back I had a 1990 T-Bird with a gas pedal that twice stuck and slowly kept accelerating. I put it in neutral and drifted over to the shoulder, shut it off, waited a few minutes, pumped the pedal a couple times, started it up, it was unstuck and engine idling. End of problem.

FROM FREEPER HERE IN JAPAN TO ALL...

Yes, browniexyz, that's what started to screw it up. But the mainline US papers would not report it out of protecting Obongo, and the Japanese papers would not report it out of concern to protect The Emperor who had clearly been embarrassed. The Japanese Imperial Household Agency even contacted the pool photographers in an effort to have them pull some unflattering angles of that rather humorous if not oafish, irritating encounter here in Tokyo last autumn by none Other than the "Internationally Savvy One".

But there were plenty of whispers and murmers all around town about how Obama blew it and also lack of trust in him OR his "snoring/daydreaming/napping" EOP/NSC team with him here in Japan (no kidding!!).

Sheesh. Somebody needs to read DALE CARNEGIE.

JustPiper is concerned about a PRO-Obamacare march on DC. She mentioned ‘moveon.org’.

Zero has chosen a very interesting law firm to represent him in certifigate:
Perkins Coie

“The firm has successfully navigated close elections for Minnesota Senator Al Franken [recounted until it was ‘right’], Washington Governor Christine Gregoire and helped bend [break] election laws in New Jersey to benefit Senator Frank Lautenberg in 2002.”

Bomb terrorist, Bill Ayers, and his army of intellectual supporters [friend of Obama].

Looking at their own short fuses, it’s no surprise they think people shouldn’t be trusted with guns.

Nor do they blame others:
Mirandizing terrorists, giving them special rights, pleased that only 20% of terrorists released from Gitmo return to terrorism, votes for prison inmates, amnesty for illegal aliens, etc.

Leftists believe that everyone is the same, neither good nor evil, just altered by our environment like turkeys pecking at marbles.

OK — getting off soap box.

By dumb-ass I mean they drill a hole in the bottom of the boat we ALL ride in.
