CNN: Liberals and Atheists Have Higher IQs
NewsBusters ^ | 02/28/2010 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 02/28/2010 7:30:42 AM PST by kingattax

"Political, religious and sexual behaviors may be reflections of intelligence, a new study finds."

So began an article published at CNN.com Friday guaranteed to anger conservatives from coast to coast.

The piece continued, "Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs."

Folks are warned about proceeding further, for the content might be really offensive to some (h/tips to NB readers Stan and Chesley):

I read, in another more detailed article, that the study looked at individuals between 18-28 years old. When I was in college I had liberal tendancies as well. It wasn’t ‘til I started a job, had a family, bought a house, paid bills, ect. that I became a conservative. It amazes me that this article intentionally left this information out. They never looked at people above the age of 28, that leaves out 2/3 of the population. Shame on them.

Ah, so liberals finally admit that IQ data DOES have meaning and therefore that "The Bell Curve" was right all along - which it was, and still is.

Aren't these the same people who argue that IQ tests are biased and meaningless when it comes to, say, evaluating prospective students for schools or applicants for jobs, if the IQ testing tends to screen out people in some favored liberal demographic?

“The study takes the American view of liberal vs. conservative. It defines “liberal” in terms of concern for genetically nonrelated people and support for private resources that help those people.”

DOES ANYBODY READ? Above is the money quote. The DEFINITION OF “LIBERAL” is an American Christian. Who do you think shows more concern for genetically unrelated people by donating private resources? The data are unambiguous. Moreover, atheists in every report I have seen give relatively little voluntarily. The “study” is bizarre, and even CNN ought to be able recognize that there is something wrong.

For decades, my tree hugging, atheist brother thought that he was way smarter than his older sister. But recently I was able to prove him wrong to the point that he was forced to concede to the family that I was way smarter than him. Funny how after a night from hell in ER,(when your mother's life is on the line), it can change one's perspective.

“The study looked at a large sample from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), which began with adolescents in grades 7-12 in the United States during the 1994-95 school year. The participants were interviewed as 18- to 28-year-olds from 2001 to 2002.”

Here is an exerpt from a previous article that was left out. They basically only looked at college age kids. How many of us had liberal tendencies at that age? Probably most of us! These worms left this information out.

Which comports nicely with my idea the liberalism is parasitic, that is it cannot build or maintain anything.

Higher IQ’s have been proven to NOT provide a direct correlation with either more knowledge or better sense, which require both character and focus of effort, no matter the IQ.

Many with high IQ’s are simply intellectually lazy. It’s like having a big powerful V8 engine and fueling it with very low octane fuel.

Which is why so many “big IQs” remain comfortably (lazily) seated in the intellectual bubble, intellectually lazy environment of America’s academic institutions, where, in order to survive and “excel”, the highest requirement is a leftists political bias.

Correct. The higher IQs were among “liberals” defined as those who showed more private concern for non-genetically related individuals. This definition is a complete redefinition of liberal. It would also suggest that the researcher’s own ethnicd group, the Japanese would have lower IQs than liberals so defined.

Th entire “study” is palpably absurd..

1 Corinthians 1:21 “For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”

1 Corinthians 1:25 “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

The arrogance and pride of man shows in this article.

You make another good point.

I prefer to use Left instead of “liberal” since the latter misrepresents the repressive nature of Commies. Conservatives are more liberal regarding freedom and gun rights than the Left.

Furthermore, IQ tests are often not pure as one can better prepare to attain higher score. IQ test results are affected by education and experience. For example, test a scientist using an obscure language.

Same here, since the early 80’s. It surprises me how many of them espouse the liberal agenda, though it seems as though the libertarian and conservative folks greatly outnumber them (at least in the forums).

My wife and I both have JD degrees, and our four children all have college/ grad degrees. None of us have ever knowingly taken an IQ test. If, at some time, we were given one under the guise of some other type of test, we were never informed of the results.

Who takes part in this survey? How can the universe of respondents be representative?

Assuming we have taken such a test, do those results, as opposed to a lifetime of academic and professional achievement, determine our intelligence?

Of course Liberals have higher IQs than conservatives.

After all, liberals want to criminalize free thinking and put conservatives who still speak out in concentration camps - or worse (as they’ve done throughout history), and conservatives simply cannot seem to grasp that, and instead they look at politics as a football game, win some, lose some, but all shake hands in the end.

Bottom line, if you’re not able to understand your enemy, you will be DEFEATED time and time again.

First of all, they defined liberal as “concern for genetically nonrelated people and support for private resources that help those people.”. That sounds like conservatism, not liberalism.

Secondly, there is no data cited AT ALL. They based their conclusions on a theory ... “Religion, the current theory goes, did not help people survive or reproduce necessarily, but goes along the lines of helping people to be paranoid ...

Thirdly, even if it were true they have higher IQs, they are fools. “The fool says in his heart there is no God.”
