Gas up $1 a gallon on Obama's watch
The Washington Times ^ | 3/26/2010 | Stephen Dinan and Kara Rowland

Gas prices have risen $1 since just after President Obama took office in January 2009 and are now closing in on the $3 mark, prompting an evaluation of the administration's energy record and calls for the White House to open more U.S. land for oil exploration.

The average price per gallon across the U.S. hit $2.81 this week, according to the Energy Information Administration. That was up from $1.81 the week of Jan. 26, 2009, just after the inauguration, and marks the highest price since Oct. 20, 2008.

John B. Townsend II, a spokesman for AAA Mid-Atlantic, said price increases are a result of the cost of crude oil, thanks to a decision by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries not to raise production even as economic growth in countries such as Russia and China spurs more demand.

"From all indications, we're going to see $3 gas again this summer," he said.

That is because he already told us that energy costs were going to increase under his administration. One of the few honest things he said... well, that and fundamentally changing America...

Don’t liberals want high gas prices, so as to encourage conservation, and make their case for “alternative” energy, windmills and such?

I'm sure my $2,500 savings in health insurance premiums (or 3,000% savings - whichever is greater) will more than make up the difference.

0bama and the left will blame the oil companies and set their sites to nationalize them along with the rest of our energy.

Okay, we can blame Obama for a lot of stuff, but I won't blame him for this. Oil prices are global, and by the way, were a lot higher at the end of Bush's term.

I do believe having a more intelligent energy policy would help bring the cost of oil down some. But to blame Obama when little has really changed (as yet) from when Bush was in office is grasping at straws.

Now, if cap and tax gets passed, that's a whole other story.

They have long dreamed of getting it so high that it will curtail our moving around - except to get back and forth to work = and they want us to do that on buses.

Controlling our movement is the goal - with $7 gas the means. They were on their way to achieving that when Carter was pres...fortunately, he got ousted in time to stop it. But they are going to go hell bent to pass every one of their Marxist plans before they lose this power they have now - they have been waiting for this level of power for decades. We stand and fight - we stand together or we fall apart.

NO.

That's the propaganda.

they want high prices to curtail our ability to move about.

Remember when the liberals complained that Bush was driving up oil prices to make more money for himself, Cheney, and Halliburton, this was not rhetorical flourish - they literally believed it. As in literally literally believed it. Given that Obama is both a Democrat and has no obvious ties to the oil industry, it’s a non-story as far as they’re concerned.

were a lot higher at the end of Bush's term.

which was deliberately done to influence the vote...and not done by the republicans but the powers that be behind the socialists.

I've been around long enough to see this game play many elections.

I told my friends not to lock themselves into the high heating oil prices in fear it would go higher. I told them prices would drop rapidly after the election - and they did.

How come BO isn’t rushing to put gas in our car? Remember the dimwit that said something like *I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car*?

Oh, and how did the poor manage to heat their homes this winter? I don’t remember headlines saying the poor were freezing to death like we had when Bush was in office.

BO fails them once again and they STILL love him.

Obama shares some of the blame. Being a member of the party that strangles production, and drives up the cost of refining, restricts offshore and Alaska drilling, and mandates “clean air” formulas at the pump makes him guiltier than Bush. Cheney tried his best to get a rational energy policy underweigh and he was savaged by jerks like Obama for secrecy and other empty rhetorical claims.

Instead of harvesting our sensible resources, Obama is subsidizing fricking windmills.

I really don’t see how the policies of this administration could lead to an increase in gas prices. This must be the result of a vast right wing conspiracy led by George W. Bush.

As an example, on January 19, 2009, gas in Memphis, Tn where I get it was $1.43. Two days ago, it was $2.69, an increase of $1.26.

One of the first things the next POTUS should do, if it’s a Pub, is to start the process to go after the proven oil reserves that are in this country and off its shores. That would give those policies four years to become so entrenched as to be extremely difficult for a dim POTUS to recind. Meanwhile, we get off oil imports and enjoy lower pump prices.

I can dream can’t I?

But to blame Obama

Maybe it has to do with his planned trillion dollar budgets into the future. With that many cheap dollars floating around, commodities that are somewhat less abundant will rise in price.

Even politicians have a price- expect the cost of bribing them to go up also.

OH just wait for summer prices.

Remember how it was all Bush’s fault because he wanted his big oil buddies to get rich from “gouging” us all?

What will be the reason this time that Ozero is the man now? LOL

I'm sick of it too but what amazes me is that a majority of my aquaintences are still more concerned about who will win on American Idol.
