A controversial student-directed play at Tarleton State University that would have portrayed Jesus as a homosexual has been canceled.

According to a press release from the university, the professor of the theatre directing class decided to cancel the Saturday production of "Corpus Christi" because of safety and security concerns for the students, as well as the need to maintain an orderly academic environment.

Hahahahaha...that and they probably sold four tickets...to the lead’s and production team’s “special friends.”

I suspect you’re right about low ticket sales being the actual reason.

I guess they cancelled it due to the Reign of Terror(tm) that the Teabaggers and Sky-Fairy Fundies have been conducting this past week. Katie Couric sez that it just isn’t safe to be an Progressive in America these days!</sarc>

I would have canx’d it too. 3 good reason, not related to security or academic environment...
1. it’s in poor taste.
2. if I were Christian, I’d be offended.
3. if I were homosexual, I’d be offended.

Drive the perversion out of the state and no the gay bathhouses of San Francisco.

Stephenville, Texas is not a good place to try this kind of cr@p. It is not a “f@g friendly” town, believe me.

It will be replaced with a new 3 act play entitled:

“Mohammed the One and Only Original Pedophile” , or “How to Win a War and Get Converts by Chopping Their Heads Off For Allah While Blissing With a 13 Year-Old Virgin [only 71 left to go!] in Mecca”

Glad we won one there for now as I would have wondered about Texas even more!

Happy Spring to all....

Canceled due to “safety and security” concerns?

See, they are spinning it that they were fearful of hateful homophobic people.

Where’s my violin? Boo hoo hoo.

Try strolling through Butthole, California and saying anything less than adoring of homosexuality. Then tell me what it’s like to fear for your safety.

Nobody cancels a play the day of, unless there is a serious problem. If there were credible threats, this leader would have played the victim card to the max.

No, people just didn’t want to come see their religion attacked in public.

Yanking my kid out of that school would be one of the first things to enter my mind. What a disgusting disrespectful thing to put on display.

Everyone from the principle on down should be ashamed of the environment they were willing to tolerate there.

Yes. It closed because no one wanted to see the banal POS but the silver lining is that the producer can lie about the reason, citing “security concerns” from those crazy Christians and will get to go on some talk show as a Free Speech Martyr.

The only time I can remember a play mocking Christ being shut down over true “security reasons” is in London when Muslims (who think Christ is a prophet) protested it.

Actually, the play wasn’t even open to the public. It was supposedly “an exercise to give the students practice in directing and producing a play”. It was all done behind the back of the new university president. The first anybody heard of it was a little story in the newspaper. It was a flagrant slap in the face of the university leaders and the VERY conservative community. Several hundreds of thousands of dollars in endowments and gifts to the university were going to be withdrawn if the play went on. And yes, my dad is a big muckity-muck at Tarleton (but not the prez) and has been involved since the story broke.

The people who came up with this sick disgusting perversion are surely the ones to whom the Bible referred when it spoke of people who by their own rebellious stubbornness are turned over to “reprobate minds” beyond redemption.

I'd say the cancellation was more caused by an uproar of contributing alumni - some of the most staunchly conservative in Texas, from what I hear.

Expect nationwide outrage from the sodomite thugs; local protests, property damage, assaults and other thuggery - in Stephenville of all places. This will go over really big for the sphincter worshipers. /sarc

It’s OK everybody. The students involved decided instead to film a documentary exploring whether or not Mohammad was a murderous, lying, child rapist.

And here I thought that civilization had “advanced” to a point where “artistic freedom” allows the celebration of a homosexual Jesus. (sarcasm)

Well, we’re “tolerant” and “evolved” enough to celebrate the vagina with “The Vagina Monologues”, but not evolved enough for a gay Jesus. (more sarcasm)
