A Nope for Pope (Nope = Nun for Pope;NY Slimes continues assault of CC)
New York SlimesYup, we need a Nope. ^ | March 29, 2010 | Maureen Dowd

Yup, we need a Nope.

A nun who is pope.

The Catholic Church can never recover as long as its Holy Shepherd is seen as a black sheep in the ever-darkening sex abuse scandal.

..........................................................

If the church could throw open its stained glass windows and let in some air, invite women to be priests, nuns to be more emancipated and priests to marry, if it could banish criminal priests and end the sordid culture of men protecting men who attack children, it might survive. It could be an encouraging sign of humility and repentance, a surrender of arrogance, both moving and meaningful.

Considering the source I am not even sure it is newsworthy more like agit-prop almost as bad as the sensational 18th/19th century Gothic novels with nefarious sex obsessed priests and nuns. News to you Miss. Dowd there is a church that adopted the policies you recommend the Episcopalian church, and they are dying out. How about this. You go to your Gaia church and butt out of our church.

I think lust is the problem being discussed here. Apparently not limited to priests.

I think the problem being discussed here is that Maureen Dowd is a nutball.

Here’s a stupid question: why is the Catholic Church fair game BUT NON-CHRISTIAN RELIGIONS (you know who) ARE NOT ?

The Catholic Church's stance on abortion and contraception remains a persistent thorn in the side of the liberals both in and out of the Church. And since our country is so strongly influenced by our European roots and Europe by its history with Christianity, the continued denigration of institutions that began in the 1960s in this country MUST take the Catholic Church into account.

Muslims, until very recently, have largely been ignored in the US and have made very little contribution to our Western way of thinking. They have never been a part of the American establishment of institutions and are, therefore, not part of the liberal enemy camp.

If you want to go further back in history, you can also take into account that Western civilization has become a post-enlightenment culture which overvalues the scientific method and places undue skepticism on the role of "authority".

Celibacy is indeed totally bizarre and unnatural. But why is there no “Catholic Defense League” suing the crap out of all these slanders? (another moot question )

“If the church could throw open its stained glass windows and let in some air, invite women to be priests, nuns to be more emancipated and priests to marry...”

...it would be a very middling college or university of religious studies, and little more.

Only to those who allow their libido to dictate how they live their life.

Catholic League

If all Bill Donahue did was sue people who slander and libel the Church he'd have to live in the courthouse.

Why does’nt the Catholic church open
it’s stained glass windows............

Why doesn’t the times open up their sealed windows to let out the stink?
Too many of their scribblers will jump from that sinking ship.

And the NYT needs an ICONS (Intelligent Conservative) to open the sealed windows. Let the fresh air in; the decaying bodies are putrefying.

If we could just get rid of that Jesus fellow, and his preaching, the church could be great. (/sarc)
