Skip to comments.President Barack Obama not quite a White Sox expert

President Barack Obama wore a White Sox cap during his ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals game yesterday, but before any rabid Pale Hose supporters get too excited about it, they should know he had a bit of a problem naming any player by name.
The first fan was interviewed during the game's television broadcast by former Sox pitcher Rob Dibble, who asked the president about his favorite players on the South Side growing up.
This is was the point that the usually eloquent Obama began stammering.
"You know uh ..... I ... I thought that ... uh .... you know," Obama stalled. " ... The truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh ... I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh .... I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A's fan."
Yes, he did also call it "Cominskey Park." That, apparently, is something he does regularly.
One could make the case that Obama's point was that he didn't become acquainted with the Sox until later in his life, but I'd imagine most fans would have liked him to spit out at least one player's name.
So, big deal or not?
Baseball obviously wasn’t too popular a sport in Indonesia...
Hmmm, is this a big deal? Well, lessee, the corrupt media had a feeding frenzy when Palin refused to name any newspapers to shill Katie Couric, even though it’s fairly obvious Palin is very well read.
And yet, the Usurper is a big time poser in many aspects (ie...not just baseball, how about foreign policy, corporate finance, health care), and the media will let him slide?
How about giving him the same treatment you gave Palin?
Ahh, you seen one whitey, you seen ‘em all. They all look like pasty worms to a hip, cool, cat like Obastard.
At least John Kerry knows his favorite Red Sox player is Manny Ortez.
Well... ahhhh.... I, Uhhhh.......
Well, let me say.....
Blah, blah, blah.
Meaningless words - just like every thing else he says.
OH MAN I just hear about on Real Poltics blog LOLOLOL!
I can’t believe it he can’t name ONE White Sox player
Here you go tomkow
I was born on the South Side, 8715 Essex. I went to both Cus and Sox games. My favorite players? Sox: Minnie Minoso, Nelly Fox, Luis Aparacio, Early Win. Cubs: Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams, Bruce Sutter and many others. What a dweeb this guy is. LIAR!
Make it go away!
How about giving him the same treatment you gave Palin?
that’s what we must do on those occasions when we encounter/engage a drone.
He could have gotten out of it by naming any spanish surname. Had a 50/50 shot there.
Too bad there are no baseball diamonds in kenya.
Obama: “Hey, what’s those big yellow poles out in the outfield??
That must be why that pitch he tossed wasn’t so good. Muslims are more used to grenades.
Obama is a liar and looks like a dolt. The MSM looks even worse because they look like nitwits for covering for this fraud.
No doubt Obama will be given a brief on White Sox players and the press will give him a do-over in a day or two.
Least qualified guy in any room he walks into, on any subject being discussed, including baseball.
Well I can’t either, but then again my grandfather didn’t take me down to Florida to watch the splashdown for astronauts returning from space either:-)
LOL. This reminds me of when Al Gore met Courtney Love at a fund raiser and told her he was a BIG FAN of hers. She asked if he could name a single one of her songs. He couldn’t.
Modern baseball was created in Hawaii...
Nobama isn’t an expert in anything. But we’ve known that for some time now.
Oh yeah any player even their manger Ozzie Gullian
Well least one of Kim Jong 11 sons is Eric Clapton fan LOL!
he and the state media knew he would be booed so he wore the stupid cap to have a excuse why he was booed.
he is very transparent in this case.
The Baltimore Black Sox were a professional baseball team based out of Baltimore, Maryland which played in the Negro Leagues. The Black Sox started as an independent team in 1916 by George Rossiter and Charles Spedden. They were one of the original six teams to make up the Eastern Colored League in 1923.
In 1929, The Black Sox boasted the "Million Dollar Infield" of Jud "Boojum" Wilson (first baseman), Frank Warfield (second baseman), Oliver "Ghost" Marcelle (third baseman) and Sir Richard Lundy (shortstop). The nickname was given to them by the media because of the prospective worth had they been white players. The Black Sox won over 70% of their games during the 1929 season and won the American Negro League Championship.
During their only season in the East-West League, the Black Sox won the league championship.
In 1933, Joe Cambria took over ownership of the team and moved it into Gus Greenlee's new Negro National League. During that same year, the team moved its home games to Bugle Field. The team only lasted one year and disbanded. In 1934, another team entered the league using the Black Sox name, but it didn't meet with much success and disbanded after only one year.
On 6 September 2007, the Baltimore Orioles wore Black Sox uniforms in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Black Sox' 1932 championship season.
Calling it “Comiskey” is no gaffe, it’s actually good - plenty of real fans do that out of habit (old Comiskey was there practically from the beginning of baseball time, and new park was originally named Comiskey) or plain refuse to say “Cellular Field.” But there is no excuse for not being able to name a player - lame, even for the Lame-o-in-Chief
>>Least qualified guy in any room he walks into, on any subject being discussed, including baseball.<<
Except when Old Joe is in the room. Then 0bambi is Einstein by comparison.
When I listened to that I was embarrassed for the guy.
Zero’s more of a soccer guy, anyway.
So he’s invited to throw out the first pitch at a Nationals game, comes out in a Nationals jacket, puts on a White Sox cap at the last second and throws. He’s an ass and that’s just rude.
He fell in love with them in KoMINsky park.
He called it CoMINskey.
Oh for pete’s sake - what a buffoon. Thanks for pointing that out for me - reading is a skill I don’t always excel at.
The pencil-necked communist just may have meant "Alinsky".
Dibble should have nailed him with some questions about Joe Rudi, Gene Tenace or Rollie Fingers and REALLY watched him start to fluster!
(of course I once knew a girl who was related to Rollie Fingers and had absolutely no idea who he was...”I think he played pro baseball or something”....)
I was probably born a little later than you, and I’m a Cubs fan, not a Sox fan. I could sarcastically answer the question about how many Sox players I could name with the answer “None! They all sucked!” But, I do remember Carlton Fisk, Eric Soderholm, Harold Baines and Ron Kittle from the days when I really started following baseball.
But if you asked me my favorite Cubs players, I could tell you the entire lineup and rotation for the 1984 Chicago Cubs, and most of their reserves.
0bama is such a pandering whore it’s really disgusting. And he throws like a sissy girl.
I liked his characterization of Cubs fans a sippers of wine in the stands. Only a dedicated lefty could bring class warfare to the National Pass Time.
John Kerry was a blast! Lol
He was constantly trying to speak sports to be “one of the guys” and screwed it up every time. To me, it was one of the funniest parts of the election.
Buckeye football is the best football ever!, he cheered at a rally in Michigan. Lol what a dufus.
And now Obama is doing the same crap.
If you are not sincere then leave it alone. A sports fan will always know. Will these elitist, oh so superior, dummies never learn?
geeze...SOX won the WS in 2005. He could have said Ozzie Guillen and gotten away clean. Mark Buehrle & Paul Konerko were on that team and they’re with them today.
and I’m a CUBS fan and I absolutely have no clues about the White Sox.
That boy aint to quick on his feet.
Cubs fan eh? Must be a wine sipping effete snob.
Not like those gritty working class (multimillionaires) from the South Side.
It seems “The One” who was supposed to be so smart and sophisticated is more like a puppet, who know nothing unless it is on a teleprompter.
course, they DID ask him about his favorite Sox player when he was growing up.
On 2nd thought, I’ll give him a pass.
"So it is agreed. Coach Ditka has more knowledge in the smallest dirt particle in his right pinkie than obama has in his entire brain!"
If being an effete snob makes you a Cubs fan, I’m surprised 0bama isn’t in Wrigley. He lies again.
I think Geoff's hope is that McCain loses to JD Hayworth in the primary and Hayworth takes the seat in the general.
I think he’s showing what an insular life he’s lead and he comes out looking bland and colorless. It almost makes one think he was taken in hand and groomed to be the national clown. ;)
