April 11, 2010 Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI Marc Horne
Atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain for crimes against humanity.
Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.
The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.
The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the good of the universal church should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases.

As unspeakable as a pope ignoring complaints of sexual abuse by a priest? Gross.
Just try it, you SOB.
HEIL HITLER!, Professor Dawkins. Adolf would be proud of you.
Dawkins is an ass.
But the Roman Catholic Church has sheltered the worst types of criminals - child molesters - and as a former RC I find that horrific! It is exactly the kind of hierarchical excess that turned me away from the church in the first place.
When asked how the Vatican has jurisdiction, merely state that this is the Catholic church - aka: the universal church. Therefore it has jurisdiction everywhere.
Richard Dawson is just another fundamentalist religious fanatic.
(Re his "quip" in 2008 that to not believe in evolution one must be either ignorant, stupid or insane.)
It’s not the British. It’s Mr. Dawkins you have a problem with!
It will help if you do some reading up before rushing off to judgment. It is left to the local Bishop to discipline the offending priest. Even the NYTimes doesn’t some close to saying that the Pope “ignored complaints” but rather delayed the process for defrocking until matters were first resolved at the local level. The Congregation for Doctrine of Faith doesn’t act like some 5-star general.
Catholic Italy? Have you been drinking varnish again?
Imagine how these two atheist would fair in an Islamic dominated society. What a foolish behavior they have embarked on.
Dawkins is a great writer, good for him. I am RC and appalled by this pope.
No, he won’t arrest him, you can’t, he is a head of state. But he is not a good man, and not deserving of the title of Pope.
Who is next on your list, Charles Nelson Reilly?
Hitchens has written extensively against Islam and was even accosted in Lebanon before he fought his way out of a possible abduction. Hitchens is a great writer and he backs up what he says and is not afraid of blowback from religion.
“Richard Dawson is just another fundamentalist religious fanatic.”
Truly spoken, he is a radical fundamentalist atheist.
No, Richard Dawson was on Family Feud, Match Game and Hogan’s Hero’s.
Is he going to arrest all the imams in Britain who call for “marrying” ten year olds?
You don’t think he is. Think about about it for a minute.
“No, Richard Dawson was on Family Feud, Match Game and Hogans Heros.”
Oh yes. He’s not the one out to arrest the pope, now is he?
DawKINS, keeping our Richards straight.
Hitchens has done a heck of a lot more than you as far as educating the world about Islam. He is a great writer, read his books, they are fantastic. Looking forward to his new one coming out in June.
He has actually traveled all around the middle east, he’s seen it. I’ve been to a few spots in the Muslim world, but nothing like Hitchens.
Dawkins seems to be stretching things even from his own point of view. Is any Briton authorized to be able to carry out a “citizens arrest” on an alleged international malefactor? Can I capture Osama Bin Ladin dead or alive if he shows up in my backyard?
“Hitchens has done a heck of a lot more than you as far as educating the world about Islam.”
You don’t know me.
A centurion's ear is liable to get sliced off in the dust up.
You don’t know Hitchens. Send me your books and reports for the last 20 years, I want to read them.
The Pope has diplomatic immunity, he is head of the Vatican State.
I don’t have any books or reports. They aren’t going to do the trick.
I am a Christian. I pray to I worship the living God. I give to further the gospel. And that is what is going to destroy Islam.
Historically, at every turn, Islam is defeated by Christianity. It is the Christians and Christian nations and cultures that have kept Islam at bay. We will continue to fight it until the last day.
Atheists can’t defeat Islam. Christians can.
If you are too young or too uninformed to see and understand what is happening right now, perhaps you should join the other excatholics on this thread and leave the Church for a while.
Pope Benedict XVI has spoken Truth with love and it is very disturbing to all the little gods and godessas in the world today who prefer their own truth subject to the love, cause, mood or whim of the day.
Do you think this world could have come to this state without the confusion and chaos created by millions of people pursuing their interests untethered to truth or reality?
Hitchens is also an aggressive atheist bigot. Yes, he speaks against Islam. So what? He speaks against all religions. I think some clergyman rapped his knuckles when he was just a wee lad and he hasn't gotten over it yet. I guess he got all wee wee'd up, to borrow an expression from the 0.
Don’t you speak German?
Maybe because my parish had 2 dangerous pedophiles, and my high school had 1.
I don’t trust this man, he covered up and hid abuses.
If you want to call him brilliant, holy and humble, go ahead, I have my opinion. I respect yours, you should respect mine.
Game, Set and Match.
Let’s have an afternoon Scotch and some tea...
Have you ever traveled to the muslim world? Or any other place populated by non christian religions? I’ve been there, in the thick of it all. I grew up Catholic, but, I see the folly in all religions. It’s my opinion of course, you can spam me all you want, but I believe you are welcome to your own opinion. I find religion to be flawed and harmful.
But, make no mistake, I am no fan of Islam, nor is Hitchens, read his works, its illuminating.
Who is next on your list, Charles Nelson Reilly?”
I was going to support Soupy Sales for president until I heard that he was dead. Now I am for Drew Carey.
I knew this was going to be the rationale. How is that working out for you?
As sad as it is to see the criminal acts— and the criminal covering up that a few in leadership positions did, I am still very happy and thankful to be Catholic. The acts of a small percentage of sinful men have nothing to do with the truth and worth of the Eucharist. The sacraments and my journey to Heaven are all that really matter.
I could never let the actions of criminals and idiots drive me away from Christ’s Church. Peter himself was a fool, a coward, and a denier at times; yet the other Apostles hung in there and continued to accept him as their leader. Even John, who stood alone without any of the other Apostles at the desolate foot of the cross, was back with the others by Pentecost. It must have been hard for him, having heard Peter deny Christ and having seen Peter run away when Christ needed him most. But John persevered. He remembered Christ’s words about love and forgiveness and redemption.
Actually yes. I think North Carolina is the only state that doesn't allow citizen's arrest, but they have something similar.
Of course he is wanted 'dead or alive' so......
Either way you get the reward.
Oh, come now. Let's compare your empty portfolio to the great Chris Hitchens:
If you haven't written such "educational" and profane works, how can you compare your own worthless life to CH who thinks Isalm is bad? /sarc
Not sure what to make of that, but the Chinese crushed the Uigher Muslims earlier last year.
Malachi Martin on The New World Order Pt2
Q. Your book claims that subversive influences in the highest clerical positions of the Church are working to bring it into the new world order. What do you mean by new world order?
A. In its completely planned form, there will be a total globalization of money, and the flow of capital and capital goods will be managed from a single, centrally directed entity such as the Bank of International Settlements in Switzerland. Any nation that does not submit to the globalized system will perish.
In addition, there will be an expanded United Nations which will spread its new ethical structure, already championed by Mikhail Gorbachev and Maurice Strong. This will replace the Ten Commandments and become the basis of a new universal and godless religion.
They believe there is no GOD. They despise anything and everything ABOUT God, and they love being in the lime light.
I can only imagine the looks on their faces when they show up at the Pearly Gates and are told they can’t go through.
>>”Richard Dawson is just another fundamentalist religious fanatic.”
You forgot to add a </sarcasm> tag, so we would know you were not intending to make a statement of actual FACT.
OTOH, if you are actually serious, would you write out YOUR definition of “Fundamentalist?” If not, we must assume that you are using the word merely as a pejorative propaganda device.
Not that officials in the Church are blameless, but why are they taking most of the heat for this scandal. It is the justice system that is responsible for prosecuting and incarcerating these vermin. I could listed hundreds of cases where liberal prosecutors and liberal judges merely slap this scum on the wrist and put them back on the street. The Church can neither prosecute nor incarcerate offenders, but the same liberals who refuse to let the justice system work shift the blame to the church.
By the time these case ended up at the CDF, local authorities were aware of the circumstances.

Prosecutors want the public to help find a fugitive child molester who was set free on bail after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on his softball team.
George Quevedo Quintana, 37, of Anaheim faces up to 10 years in prison after pleaded guilty to molesting the victim, who was on a team with the West Grove Girls Softball League in Garden Grove. The softball coach molested the girl during a day trip last September.
After being charged in the case, Quintana changed his plea on April 18 before Orange County Superior Court Roger Robbins, who decided to delay sentencing to May 19 and let the molester out on $100,000 bail until the hearing. Prosecutors unsuccessfully objected saying Quintana should be sentenced immediately and put in jail
LOS ANGELES August 17, 2007. Prosecutors on Tuesday dropped charges against a self-described pedophile who was arrested last week after he allegedly violated an order that prohibited him from being within 30 feet of children.
Prosecutors opted not to pursue charges against Jack McClellan after they determined the judge who issued the order failed to set a hearing to argue its merits and had not given the 45-year-old transient proper notice.
McClellan was released from jail Tuesday following a court hearing. A cell phone message left for him was not immediately returned.
It's kinda cute when anti-Catholic bigots on opposite ends of the spectrum find the same scapegoat to attack.
